SteamWorld Heist |OT| Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot ...dig?

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Anyone have thoughts on this now after playing it for a while?
It fuckin' rocks.

Same moody atmosphere from A Fistful of Dirt, same meticulous attention to sprites and animations, same lovable 3d effect. Only this time the game is an XCOM ; )

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I approve of the Firefly reference.

Totally had no idea this game existed, but I'm so pumped to play it. Will check it out tonight.

Speaking of references, there's a fun nod to Shovel Knight in the cutscene leading to Royalist space, after you beat the first boss :-D

Started on experienced and it seems to be a good challenge...just barely getting by missions but with casualties.

21 stars in, and I'm enjoying the hell out of this game. I&F did it again. Hopefully the Wii U version will be retroactive cross buy when it hits (I would love to replay it on the big screen), but the 3DS version is stellar.

I am about 6/7 missions (17 stars, no replays yet) in and really digging (no pun intended) it. The crusher enemy with the shield was the first real challenge. In one instance, 4 of the enemies grouped up in one spot for some reason so I dropped a grenade on their head. Satisfying to see them blow apart in slo-mo :)

The inventory is already sort of frustrating as I'd like to have at least a non-default gun and utility item for each person on the crew but the space gets used up so fast and new spots are expensive. Hasn't been a huge problem yet, maybe I'm just a pack rat.

Just beat my first 4 star stage on experienced difficulty. Damn that shit is hard. Played the same stage over like 20 times and it was fun every single time. I love this game.

Does anyone know where I can get UK eshop credit online? I live in Spain but have a UK account (never used e-shop before) due to Nintendo being asshats and having too many games in spanish only in their shop. Thanks!

A couple of questions, if you don't mind:

1) I'm not a strategy gamer. I respect the genre, but have never found it to be that fun or for me. This game really intrigues me, though, so I may check it out.

Is it hard?

2) How long is it?

1) It's challenging...but you can adjust the difficulty before each mission. Higher difficulty means greater reward but also more penalties should you fail.

2) No idead but I think they said it was 10x longer than thier last game which was 5 hours-ish.

Wow, 50 hours?

So are you guys selling the weapons you're not using? The hoarder in me just can't do it, especially if future recruits could do with them.

Thanks for the screen grabs.

I assume you can't change the difficulty during a playthrough, so it'll be between casual and regular for me if I play it. I just worry that casual will be too easy.

I made this mistake with The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. I normally play games on hard, but not the dungeon crawler/RPG genres. And Van Helsing just loves to throw tons of overpowered enemies at you at once.

There are three save slots so you could just start a playthrough on both of the first two options and then stick with the one that feels better.

I'm loving my time with this. The death animations are so satisfying. Landing a ricochet shot and watching the robot bits fly in slow motion never gets old.

Amazing game so far. I'm not even that big of a strat game fan and I'm loving it. Item management seems to be an ongoing struggle but I need to learn to let go of outdated guns.

Slowly starting to get addicted to collecting hats.

Do you guys stick to one team, or do you rotate people in and out to try everyone?

Usually I'm the former (using mostly Piper, Sally and Valentine) but I just tried levelling some others for fun, and... whoa! Beatrix! The loose cannon skill is aptly named, but it's pretty great :-D Bogdan also seems to have potential... might have to rework my team habits.

Any other favorite characters so far?

I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but I really love the Russian bodybuilder character you get fairly early on. He has a mountain of health, heavy weapons are devastating with a bit of practice (being able to lob grenades over cover is fantastic) and his invincibility special move is a lifesaver if the rest of the team is in trouble and needs to relocate. And of course the best thing is he is working that dumbbell the entire mission like any champ should. Him and Piper have been on like 95% of my missions and they've never not been useful.

Just checked in game and the robot I am talking about is called Ivanski. Glorious circus strongman.

Day 2 is even funner than day 1. I love that each bar has it's own band and song playing in the background. I've been trying to keep my team balanced by rotating out members and using different characters for the solo missions. But I haven't been recruiting many new bots just cuz I feel I already have a good balance with the team I have. Great game. Great atmosphere as well. I hope it sells tons and tons. It's totally worth the higher price point.

This game looks so damn good but I've just got no time for it now, probably won't be playing anything but Xenoblade X for weeks

You are doing the right thing. This game took away so much time from X for me. Damn it. I am going to be playing this tonight also.

Kind of obsessing about this game. It is hard to put down. I cannot put it down. Too much fun. Too cool. Sleep can wait.

Sometimes I've just been hanging out in the bars listening to the music, and then I'll navigate my way to another bar to listen to a different song.

I don't know, this game feels very special.

Also, subscribed. This is the type of game that is only going to pick up "steam" with time. As more people play it, more people will be raving about it. It would be tough to deny how good this game is.

Yeah, Bogdan Ivansky :-D Kind of glossed over him at first, but his invincibility+taunt might really work wonders in larger team efforts... I'll have to give him a try (and maybe try at least once making him invincible in the middle of a group before letting Beatrix loose with a double Bea rocket, see if he really makes it unscathed :v)

This game is fantastic, even on normal if you don't engage with it you will lose team members, which is nice. Would like to see some optional mission objectives or something, but there are higher difficulties and that mysterious January update. Inventory space is tight, which is cool as well! I love limited decisions in gaming.

I use Piper and Seabrass usually plus one other. I do want to level them all up eventually to see what kind of skills they have.

fight. I was down to only Seabrass, who was immobilized. A Lucky double shot off the wall ended it with him having 1 HP left and all cover points blown up.

I love this.

I would've been a goner
if the battle didn't end after killing her. Her two guards, the mini-bosses, were still alive when I killed her.

I did the first mission in the third section, the section after the boss fight you described, and difficulty definitely ramped up. Piper was killed in one shot by the first enemy she saw, luckily I was able to squeak through the rest of the mission with Sally and Beatrix, but just barely, and it's the first mission where I had to high tail it out of there without collecting all the loot.

I think nothing better than a RPG to flesh out the world, amazing idea by ImageForm in my opinion, specially since the little plot I saw in Dig was really interesting.

One complaint I saw in the reviews is that the AI is too easy to trick. Are you all at all finding that?

No, I'm not finding that at all. Aside from not aiming that well (which is generally a good thing, so they miss shots), the AI seems pretty smart. There was one mini-boss causing havoc for me because he kept calling in new spawns every turn. The game isn't too easy in anyway, and if it's true that enemies can potentially one-shot you later on into the game, then I might have to go down to the easier difficulty level to finish it.

I didn't have enough time (welp, mostly due to X) but managed to put my first hour.

... And it looks brilliant.

Yeah, not sure what they meant by that. Even in casual mode, they go for flanking manoeuvers and try to relocate to better positions somewhat efficiently. If there's the equivalent to the APC trick in AW1 in here, I haven't found it yet :-D

Haven't progressed too far since last time, I've been grinding a bit on the first mission of the third act, since it gives very good xp for three characters in a short timeframe and consistently drops awesome weapons. Been trying to level up everyone, see their skills, and I can now say that I kind of like everyone... except Billy. Is it Billy? I'm not even sure that's his name. The melee fish. Seriously! A melee centric character, with what has to be the lowest movement range? I believe I get the design idea, to get him one kill so that he keeps moving forward with his post kill-additional move skill... but by the time he gets to the action to get that first kill, everybody's dead already, at least with how I play :-D I'm sure others will find a way to leverage his skills, but he's definitely the benchwarmer of this run for me.

Not sure where that is coming from. I am playing on experience and this AI knows what it is doing. I tried tricking it but they get in the right position to get the shot off or flack you. It is terrifying ti see them moving knowing they are boxing you in.

Great game.

Outside of occasionally missing shots, I don't find the AI doing anything dumb.
