lol with funi's lame rebranding theres been even more terrible glassdoor reviews

Animal Farm?

In this age of increasing difficulty of finding full time salaried jobs, I have to wonder where someone who got a job at funi would go next. I still dont understand what there is to do in an anime company in America as from all those videos and what they say, they are spending alot of time just playing around and making dumb youtube videos.

Stop me if you've heard this one before: A big green demon slug seeks the Earth Dragon Balls to wish to return to the prime of his youth. He then proceeds to conquer the planet shortly after achieveing his goal of eternal youth. Now am I talking about the King Piccolo saga or am I talking about...

Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug

latest

King Kai if that's a Super Saiyan then Yamcha's not a jobber.

So yes, Lord Slug probably has the least original plot of all the DBZ films. Incidentally, it might be the most notable part about the entire film. With perhaps the exception of Piccolo trolling the bat-pig guy, Lord Slug is completely inconsequential with nothing noteworthy about it. Even the false Super Saiyan transformation is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

I don't really have much to say about Lord Slug. It's a pretty damn mediocre watch.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Yeah it did. The story was junk but it was a beautiful show.

I trust glassdoor reviews about as much as I trust rate my professor reviews. Not saying those reviews couldn't be true, but I feel like the vast majority of people who go out of their way to write reviews on both those sites are just lazy bums.

Active Raid Episode 1

I'm not sure what this show is aiming for.

It's over the top, but I get the sense that underneath all its random bullshit there might actually be a plot. But that plot probably won't be fun with a main lead that honestly reminds me of Mika from Psycho-Pass.
A character who has no idea what she's doing, but constantly tries to take control.

It doesn't help that the city is the most generic nothing city I've seen since Daimidaler, and the actual action is pretty boring.

In today's episode 1 watches from worst to best:

Phantom World - The lamentations of the kyoanis in my twitter timeline fill me with an indescribable joy. The show sucks hard though.

ERASED - The setup is cool but I couldn't care less about anyone in it. It felt very rushed (I'm narrating every aspect of my life! Suddenly I'm at work! And have superpowers! And some high schooler has a crush on me! Hey its my mom! "Giving any of this time to sink in", what's that?) and is very obviously an adaptation in a bad way with the over-reliance on internal narration, kinda wooden script that feels like it would work better in manga or novel form, and strange pacing for an anime. I'll stick around for the concept, but so far this isn't impressing me like I feel it should be. I'll probably end up just picking up the manga instead if the anime continues to show symptoms of bad adaptation.

Oji-san and Marshmellow - The MC is kinda moe and that's about all this has going for it. But at three minutes per episode it's not like there's much time wasted watching it, so I'll probably stick around anyway.

Haruchika - It's pretty OK, better than the usual fare you get with this sort of concept. Despite being an obvious rip-off of some of Kyoani's work, I'm liking it better than any of its "influences". The main characters are fun and have a nice dynamic. We seem to have traded Kyoani's gay baiting for actual homosexuals, which I am very OK with. I also like the character designs and Namaniku ATK's style seems to have gotten a better shake here than it did in Chaika. All that said most of the animation was kind of average at best, with the band scenes being noticeably bad. The "mystery" aspect of the episode, while a good lead-in for the last scene, wasn't particularly interesting.

Active Raid - This sure is a Taniguchi show written by the guy who did Kamen Rider Kuuga and Akibaranger. The concept is neat and the comedy is fairly well done, but the mechanical designs are kind of "eh", the animation is so-so, and the female character designs look like they're from a two-bit ecchi manga creator (and they are). I feel like I would like this more if the men and women didn't look like they were from two different species. I'll definitely stick around though, it's pretty good.

Girls Beyond The Wasteland - I was wondering where the Romeo Tanaka (guy who wrote this thing) humor was in this show but then the Bitch Queen call happened and I don't think I stopped smiling from there until the end of the episode. The "Quiet and beautiful girl in class with long black hair turns out to be a weirdo and ropes MC into THING" concept is worn out as heck, but this show is breathing life into it. The MC is very likable considering the kind of MC you usually get in these sorts of affairs. Lots of characters are introduced quickly but despite that are well fleshed out in just a couple of scenes each, and I don't think there were any characters I disliked despite the light novel tropes and how many there were. It's a little obvious this is being adapted from a game script, but the show does its best to work as an anime and mostly succeeds at this. The humor, dialogue, and character designs are all pretty good too. There's nothing too special about it yet, but so far it's the most promising show of the season.

...oh god, an anime that's essentially "insert the most generic LN premise possible here" is the most promising show of the season.

I made it like 30 seconds past the OP of active raid when suddenly every fiber of my being screamed out for me to stop and for once i listened. I doubt i'll regret my choice.

It's one of those shows that might surprise us two or three weeks in, but right now you're not missing anything.

It's fun. A little cheap (the opening scene felt downright ugly to me at times), but the energetic comedy and enthusiastic characters did more than enough to win me over. Everyone's really earnest, which made it easier for me to get sucked in.

Umaibo is honestly kinda shit, but Hotaru's passion is inspiring regardless!

There's a little fanservice (a shower scene), but not too much. Even with the character designs, the show has the decency to keep the focus on everyone's personalities.

I'll watch more, I guess.

There could be a plot, sooner or later, but my bet is it will be full of silliness, or at least with an equally silly resolution after briefly raising the stakes. I doubt it'll ever go full serious and never look back. As for the female lead, I think the big difference is she's unlikely to forever remain like this or get worse. Literally everyone on the team is way more relaxed about their job. Hard to imagine her fate will be anything like Mika's.

Fucking Rolling Girls.

I thought it was alright all the way through, but if it stayed like the first 2 episodes oh my god it would've been amazing

damn.

The first two episodes of Rolling Girls were among the best first two episodes of any anime I can recall seeing in recent memory. Pure distilled hype and joy.

YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE ROLLING GIRLS!!!!!

Yikes, I can't deal with that.

best 2 part ova 2015, wish it had a real ending tho

Stride 1

Pretty good. Fun characters and the sport looks like it can be pretty fun to watch. Looking forward to more.

Haruhika 1

Not so good. Maybe I should start Hyouka if I wanted a mundane school mystery anime. Probable drop.

Phantom 1

10/10, KyoAni saving anime, etc. etc. Probable drop.

Active Raid 1

Seemed OK. CG animation was decent, but not as impressive as I would have wanted. Doesn't blend too well with the backgrounds either. Might keep watching.

ERASED 1

Pretty good, makes me want to pick back up the manga after I had stopped a while back.

Norn9 1

Average. Makes me at least curious enough to see where it might go. Will watch a few more, but probable drop.

Girls Beyond The Wasteland 1

Maybe a better version of Saekano? But it doesn't have a Megumi. Might drop or keep depending on how well other shows are.

Dagashi Kashi not getting subs until 4 days after release feels so odd. I've been spoiled by the last 4 years of anime.

Hopefully it's more entertaining animated than read. The manga is kinda boring for me since it's all jokes about candies I'll never eat.

Inoffensively average opening. Not so bad as to dissuade me from continuing though. I know it sort of violates the central tenet of the show but I might have cared about the shock drama if the Revival nonsense wasn't around as it's a tool that allows escape of lasting consequence.

The countermeasure to that is usually having the meddling about with time make shit worse.

Didn't he say that there is a consequence to using Revival in the episode though?
Things either even out or they end up badly for him lol. With this much of a jump idk if there will be any other implications. Such as a butterfly effect of sorts that affects other things or just like in Charlotte, in which the character that could travel through time began losing his vision.
It's too early to tell really, only the ones who read the manga would know more. They can do some really cool stuff with what they have.

Revival only seems to work once, or else he could keep redoing until he didn't get hurt saving people

So the story will be him having one chance to stop a much bigger event that's not a simple distracted driver easy mode feat, and we know the consequences of failure to drive him to give a shit now.

It's like the setup to any show/movie, the bomb will go off/the terrorists will execute the president/the world will be taken over by demons/etc if you fail. We just got to see the Bad End instead of hearing threats about it.

So Kiritbread finally watches KareKano; thus begins a new era.

Now, with our tastes seeming wolds apart at this point I'd actually be surprised if you'll end up liking it. True relationship development is something you'll certainly get for once, though.

Haruchika Episode 1:

I know I am a little late on this, but pickings have been very slim thus far. Anyway, yea, this is pretty much discount Sound! Euphonium mixed in with a bit of discount Hyokua for good measure. It isn't bad per sae, but it feels so small and puny in the face of Kyoto Animation. That being said at least this series isn't afraid to have an actual gay character in it which does put it above Euphonium in that respect. Still can't support this alleged love triangle since I can't support serious High School teacher crushes because seriously underaged kids.

I'm fine with that if it's obvious it won't amount to anything. And this really obviously won't amount to anything.

So I'm looking at the Pandora in the Crimson Shell anime...

...why is it?

I mean, it's apparently about a robot cat girl that apparently fights terrorists....

Myriad Colors Phantom World 01

Hey, isn't there anything better to read, like something smutty or something smutty?

Good to hear Hayami-san in this. Reina is pretty cool.

That cross hands Metal Chi. How low can you go? I'm liking Mai already, lol

So a biohazard changed their brains to be able to perceive what couldn't be seen previously and be given special powers, eh?

So many colors all around during the intense animation sequences.

A real good first episode of a shit show is the worst though because you hold out hope it'll be good again but it NEVER DOES.

CURSE YOU CHAOS HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be fair the first episode of that was just okay, it just had some potential... and then... the rest of the series happened @_________@

I do wonder how many of these are legitimate and how many are submissions meant to make this into a meme since it gained traction.
It's hard to imagine what anyone else gets out of making this a meme. It also seems unlikely that these sort of rumors start by themselves.

While the people I have talked to at cons that still work with funimation usually have good things to say, a lot of people who have worked with them but no longer do such as Chris Patton didn't have very kind things to say and would never willingly work with them again. (Though he did promise me if funimation gets the rights to a future FMP series and ask him to return he would as that is the single character important enough to him to make him willing to work with them. at the time a new FMP season hadn't been announced but now there has been.)

There had been a lot of talks of it being a lot like highschool.
There is the in crowd (all of the regulars) and then the new talent that is trying to be part of the in crowd, and if they fail to get in their life is completely miserable. I mean it's always hard to gauge how legit people's negative experiences are (a lot of people don't realize when they are the ones being giant dicks and just remember that others were dicks to them after they were dicks first) but it seems like a very mixed place to work at. If you don't get along with the right people you likely won't be there very long.

to be fair I have only talked with 10-15 current funimation employees and 5 or so former ones so my data set isn't the biggest. (I love having a smaller con near me that isn't big enough that it is packed, but is big enough that it gets 3-5 anime voice actors a year that because of the size of the con have time to sit down and talk with people outside of panels lol)

Wow, a fellow Chaos Head survivor.

I thought I was the only one.

I still to this day don't get how someone could think that, at the point you should start explaining things you instead explain things with made up words and don't explain those words, was a good idea @_@

they are attacking us because their flibberjams are out of wack, we need to genotastrate their flabberwalkers in order to renursify their jibberjabbers @_@

I do need to play the game at some point, I hear it is good, and it likely does a better job of covering important things like what half of the things said in the last few episodes are lol.

chaos head is up there for the worst anime I have ever seen though, as it has potential and teases it, and then just bitchslaps you and laughs as your cry yourself to sleep.

This looks like that one idol episode of KnK, maybe kyonai realized how good was that and turning it into a full show! What this trash has over KnK trash is that it's completely stupid so it's kinda fun actually. Visually some backgrounds looked kinda bad though.

Erased 1
It felt like beginning of a David Cage game where it seems intriguing but you can guess this plot can take a direction you won't care. Maybe it's good, maybe not.

at least that had half-decent character designs unlike this new garbage
