Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Well, after having strongly hated the first demo, I can proudly say that I am happy with this one. Complete turn over, for the greater good. Still some works to be done but it was fun and enjoyable.

I strongly thought of KH which is good. Now we'll have to see how it looks like in an open world environment and not arenas. Mind you a whole game like that demo, with bigger arena would have been good.

Hope the dialogues won't be cheesy. The cast is still the weakest point of this game.

They wasted 2 months creating this lackluster demo filled with crap IQ and framerate dips. Should have just polished up Overture for consoles which they had ready 2 years ago...

IKR. I wonder why they even wasted all this time only to add more negative impressions for the final game =/

Weak in which way? We've barely seen ANYHTING at all regarding the characters. Save such definitive words for after playing the full game.

Probably posted already but... Is there any playthrough on YouTube WITHOUT any narration or a thumbnail of the player? Everyone on YT is so annoying.

Yeah but you need X amount of the crystal things to unlock one of the weapons at the end.

I know its not exactly a perfect solution, but you can get to Altissia and just respawn enemies and kill them over and over until you have enough. You can speed through it in about 10 minutes and it's faster than going around collecting them. I'd have preferred Overture too though.

He's probably referring to the appearance of the characters. It's not particularly attractive for the western audience.

True, 100. Might take 10 minutes to grab those...

Ugh, why don't they let us save and reload at giant?

Because the demo was deliberately put together in two months, as it turns out, which utterly explains the lack of focus, proper tutorial and player accessibility in it.

See, 2 months is not enough to polish anything, so let them do what they do and focus on making this game great before the end of September, shall we?

Yup. At least I've enjoyed messing around with the iron giant, and any fears I had about the final battle system have been assuaged. So, personally, I guess I'm glad they did it. Just hope it doesn't cast too dark a shadow on the full release.

how hard is it to make a demo...?
...hard? It's like creating a chapter of a game.

Optimisation is something they wouldn't really bother with either when making this as that is something the code team would be constantly doing to the engine. Those assembling the levels can only do so much to optimise, especially in 2 months if that quote is legit.

I apologized for going off-topic here, didn't think this was worth making a thread

I was looking at the newest trailer of FFXV :reclaim the throne until I got to the part where Noctis was a kid.

Now is it just me or does Luna look much older in Noctis flashback?

And in the second pic, I can't tell if she's kneeling down or not, with those pesky dogs conveniently blocking her part

I switched to an alt account to ditch my embarrassing tag so I could be an embarrassing Naughty Dog fanboy in peace. Ask me anything!
Since I am new to Final Fantasy, for those who played the original demo ( Duscae... something ) how do team moves work? Is it something that is going to be player controlled or is it something that occasionally gets triggered automatically ( like the parry prompt in this demo which is not in player control )

I am hoping it is player controlled because that parry move is stupid. It is stupid design to randomly include a QTE GOW like sequence out of nowhere. Less automation please!!!

Pretty sure she is kneeling (or else her proportions are all fucked up lol) but remember that at that age it's not unusual for girls to be taller than boys due to puberty.

Very hard. They have to finish the development of the demo then do QA on it to make sure the game doesn't crash or cause bugs. Developers can show a demo at E3 because they have worked on it and know the flaws of it very well but you won't see similar demo being played by the public or press, and if they do, it will be under the strict control of the developers. Basically it is hard to release demos that are available to public because there are tons of way how it can go wrong, since people like to mess around in ways not intended by devs.

Creating something that won't ever be a part of the final game means they essentially created the sections of the demo from scratch. How many times have you seen a demo for a game being made available for the public?

I understand why some people are upset. The demo is rather sparse and offers no explanations. Personally, I found it refreshing not having to deal with tutorial screens and finding out the nuances of the battle system by myself was fun, too. In the end, I'm glad we got it but hopefully, they don't waste time updating this demo or creating a new demo that will just end up upsetting everyone. They need to put all their resources towards optimizing the final game. With the battle system they are implementing, a smooth frame-rate is crucial.

Only thing I can see them doing is maybe releasing Duscae for everyone, as it is currently unobtainable now to anyone who didn't already own it. But it wouldn't surprise me if they don't, as that content will apparently be in game and it's not far away now.

seriously if she's not kneeling she has like muppet proportions with those long ass arms and short legs.

And as others said, it isn't unheard of for girls to be taller than boys at a young age. She could also be a year/2 years older it wouldn't change much in their relationship considering that an arranged marriage could be YEARS apart.

She's kneeling. You can see her shoe just above the white dog.

Maybe she is older. It's weird how uncommon that is in media. Or Noctis is just a runty little kid.

Admiral, pls.

The last week actually gave me hope this will be a story worth noting with fiction worth taking relatively seriously. Don't take that way from me now please.

Noctis and gang run out of money for gas and food.

They put up a concert where they sing idol music to a bunch of guards, so kawaii no desu

「PLATINUM DEMO」はすごくリーズナブルに作っているんです。ゲーム本編の開発側ではほぼ出来上がった要素を抽出して、少人数で2カ月くらいで作っているんです。

Tabata said "PLATINUM DEMO was built in very reasonable way. It was made by a small number of members in 2 months, picking up the features which are almost completed in development of final game"

I don't think it is good to make first public demo in reasonable way anyway.

They can't simply just release Episode Duscae 2.0 to everyone like that though, because some of the core mechanics have changed completely, like the decks to manual weapon switching for example. Otherwise, people who didn't follow the development would be even more confused as to how the game's supposed to play in the final product.

They said on stage at the event Platinum Demo "lets users experience the final graphics of the game". It's interesting to watch a narrative form that it's something they just shit out, despite that. I'm honestly not getting my hopes up for the retail game to run or look much better. Which is fine with me. I think it's gorgeous.

Ugh.

The worst part is how plausible this is.

They would be call lazy and why are taking away resources from the optimization phase since the game is about to release. It is what it is at this point.

Is it just me, but did the sword design change when compared to "The Overture" TGS 2014 demo to the current demo builds? Also, the soles of the shoes are definitely less red/detailed in the current build compared to the current build as well. :/

Wait, it just hit me.
Did the story slightly change?
For some reason, I thought they went on the road mainly due to the attack on Lucis. But in the latest trailer(or episode 1 of the anime), they're on their way to Noctis' wedding with Luna. Was this always the case? I'm so confused with what changed and what stayed the same. @.@

In Japanese, "reasonable" mainly means "cheap".

I don't think it is good to make first public demo in reasonable way anyway.

But..
They're engaged, Arranged Incest???

Oh well, I guess I was shocked over nothing then lol.

Well, at least that's the case in Asia. I remember the girls in my class were not only taller than me, but also ran faster until 5th grade.

They're not less detailed. They're muddied up on purpose.

And these are different swords.

They start off on a road trip sending off Noctis to get married. Then they hear about Lucis' invasion and they stay on the road. We know nothing of what happens afterwards.

Ah, so it hasn't changed. Okay.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but -

Noctis and crew were present for the invasion originally (vs13), and escaped after failing to prevent it.

After either the ff15 or the Tabata transition it was changed. Episode Duscae showed that Noctis were on the road to at least visit Luna (not necessarily for the wedding), and find out about their home being invaded on the radio or some such.
