When do we expect Nintendo NX to be revealed?

If it's not shown by September it's not coming out in March.

It's not lying if they really planned for it to be March and it slipped. Happens all the time.

Trev's leak already confirmed it was delayed once from this Fall, plus Nintendo just reiterated it's coming out worldwide in March.

September the week before TGS. That way they show off to Japanese audience at TGS (or at least have deva show games) and they show it to the West in Paris at PGW.

I figure either Direct or a Press Conference is how they will do it.

March, while not unprecedented, is a odd time for a launch. I can't see Nintendo wanting to miss the huge holiday push. I think it will be revealed around September/October, with some type of preorder campaign to run during the holidays.

Nintendo has a golden opportunity in September to reveal the NX about 6 months before its intended release. The Wii U was revealed June 2011 at E3, released November 2012, a gap of 17 months. If this time the gap between NX reveal and release is about a third of what it was with Wii U, Nintendo can keep people hyped (assuming NX generates hype, of course). Perhaps even more importantly, by not revealing NX this past E3, it affords Nintendo more time to polish their messaging about NX, as well as being able to show more games that are closer to completion. The Wii U's messaging at E3 2011 was completely awful, and not a whole lot better at E3 2012, prior to launch. First impressions are everything.

Sept 7, 8, 13, or 14.

One of those four dates.

As I've mentioned before:
- July is out. Game journalists need to make arrangements and stuff would have leaked out. Might as well have revealed it at E3 if you were going to be ready in August.
- Most of August is out because of the Olympics which are going to suck up all the news cycle oxygen.
- Nintendo doesn't reveal big stuff on Mondays or Fridays, it's always Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.
- They'll need to ship dev kits out and allow people who aren't "trusted partners" to order kits, which probably needs to happen by September. You want multi-plats in force by Fall 2017. Obviously they're going to reveal it before dev kits go out and everything leaks out.
- It would be beneficial for Japanese third parties to be able to announce games coming to NX at Tokyo Game Show.
- They're definitely going to reveal it before the Holidays... otherwise you're asking people to buy a PS4/XB1.

SCENE: A rally on Election Day. Donald Trump has just won the presidency. He appears before an adoring audience of Klansmen and Neo-Nazis, ready to make his speech. Then, all of the sudden, he sheds his skin like a molting snake... revealing himself to be Reggie!

"I wasn't serious about the wall or hating minorities or anything," Reggie says. "I just wanted to have your attention so I could reveal Nintendo's hot new system."

On live TV, incoming president Reggie showcases the NX — a telekinetically controlled sphere of energy that exists simultaneously in the past and the future. The audience ooos and aahs.

"I think... I think I feel love in my heart," says one audience member. "It feels weird."

Even though September seems most likely, I hope they at least announce when they will reveal it sooner than later.

September. Nintendo already said they will reveal the system and games in the fall, and given Nintendo usually has a fall showcase of some sort in September, it makes sense to expect the NX then.

December, Summer 2017 release.

I know it sounds pessimistic, but can't see March 2017 happening. Hope I'm completely wrong though.

Its probably December. Would say January if they wouldn't have confirmed a 2016 reveal.

It really feels like they are waiting until the last possible moment. So yeah December. Can't really see it being earlier.

Hope I'm wrong since I'd like to know price much in advance but just don't see it.

It'll be an interesting holiday this year. Are shoppers who were in the market for a PS4 going to wait for Neo? It's entirely possible that kids will unwrap NX pre-order slips this Christmas.

September, I think they'll pull together another Nintendo World like in 2011, followed by a big Nintendo Direct with the Treehouse playing through some of the games.

I still think it's March. Nintendo, of course, is legendary for its delays but they were very firm about the release during the investors meeting. I think they would have left themselves more room with the shareholders if they weren't confident in making release this fiscal year.

Here is what their Head of Manufacturing said during the Q&A:

As for the NX, manufacturing is being prepped. We’re considering how much to automate

At least they'd have more substance. We'd be talking about/discussing/reacting to actual concrete news.

Won't change the glut of "What should.../When will.../Do you think..../Would you..." threads, based off concrete news or not.

It's the same that goes with every new console reveal but Nintendo seems to get that extra push because Nintendo.

If they have something rather unique, I sort of expect Nintendo to do a very rare TGS showcase (the only time that they did this was to show off the Wii Remote). By then... there should be a clear picture of the marketing focus of the device(s), at least internally.
It would also be rather telling, since it would mean that time to explain the device would be necessary. Which is something that Nintendo failed to do in the Wii U's lifespan.

Outside of that, the specs, data media and other technical details would likely to be revealed at the same date. I feel that Around January-February of 2017 would likely be a when that data is public, assuming that they give out much details at all.

Iwata's TGS Keynote in 2005 was announced in late July, for what it's worth. That year Nintendo didn't have a booth, but just had Iwata give a keynote.

More recently TGS has released their event schedule by August 11.

Personally, I don't think that's the current management's style (Kimishima/Miyamoto) to want to do a keynote speech to announce something, and anyone else giving a speech would probably not be seen as important enough. For that reason I'm leaning towards a US-based event with Reggie handling the plurality of the presenting.

I'd guess shortly before TGS, in order to allow third parties to show off some NX titles at TGS. So maybe the first or second week of September.

My entirely non-factual gut-based answer: August??

Wouldn't be surprised if it's some time this summer. Nintendo probably doesn't want to sit on this too long.

In all likelihood, once they feel they have enough together to show off, they'll simply call a Direct and we'll see it. August-September seems a reasonable guess.

It'll release when it's too late, interest is ebbing, and NOJ has determined the hardware is just far enough away from what anyone would want.

It'll be some adorably underpowered box that puts out a reliable 720p except for first party titles. This is what happens when you have just enough magical hubris to keep you from reading the market.

Muahahah what if - the mysterious Feature of the NX is *Compatibility to Xbox One and PS4 Games* lol

This topic has been discussed multiple times, while many of us assume that NX will be announced between very late August and early November. If is not announced by then, I think it is likely the NX is really not releasing in March 2017. It will likely be held for Fall 2017.

I also think that these rumors lately about the NX being a kiddie / family console, are probably accurate. It would allow Nintendo to compete in its own space, and a space that really PS4 and Xbone do not go after. Apple is the only competitor in this space, and iPad gaming is very different than console gaming, at least until Nintendo someday create a console controller for tablets and phones.
