FCC wireless chip filing makes me think Sony will announce new Vita hardware

Its like people arent paying attention the discovery going on in this topic

I know, I know.... Unfortunately, the details are so vague that people don't want to believe, lol.

My understanding was that the attach rate was phenomenal.

It was. I was just trying to find the report where it was outlined just how much money Sony lost on the Vita, but....... It just never showed up. ; )

I believe with PS+, it's around 10:1 or something ridiculous, but I'm not sure f there is an official attach rate number besides the one they gave us a few years ago.

it was a slow start but it seems inevitable at this point that the vita will put nintendo out of business.

for sure.

Okay. The form factor is a PS4.

Sony switched from PIFA to IFA antenna to cut costs in 2014, before switching to using less sticks of GDDR5 RAM in the 2015 "C" chassis model among other things.

So if my understanding is correct the original PS4 has a PIFA antenna and it looks like this?

Is this considered a PIFA antenna? Ive taken apart my launch PS4 and the antenna is quite large

It's totally a new portable - they called it Trinity because you can Carrie it with you.

...

:(

More seriously, would buy, day 1. As risky as it is I could see a new Sony handheld potentially doing ok if they go really hard on the pro-consumer user-friendliness aspect with things like microSD and USB Type-C instead of proprietary annoyances. I want more sweet gyro-enabled shooters.

I cannot see them releasing another Vita after stopping support for the device unless it is a completely new device. With that said I might be dumb enough to buy another Sony handheld after it has bit me in the ass the last two times.

Something with a slightly larger screen that can actually get a decent Remote Play signal would be very welcome, in theory. In practice, I'm not sure there will ever be a time in the foreseeable future when I can prioritize purchasing a new Vita over, well, virtually anything else.

I do like mine though.

What would a Nintendo fan have to be anxious about
Because any that are true handheld fans now might need an extra few hundred to have both current handhelds. That's money that could've gone to NX games!

Any actual threat is absurd, at best we get serious competition that would be healthy for this slice of te industry.
How the hell can people hype for this after failure of original Vita's gaming side?
People play and enjoy systems that don't win in the marketplace, or even spectacularly fail. I know I really liked the Saturn and the Vita's sharing a spot with it.

What if I told you...

PS4 slim = handheld

PS4 slim/vita successor- low settings
PS4- medium settings
NEO- high settings

Let a man dream

Standard Sony. The Wifi in their consoles is utter crap, and they continue to skimp out on it.

Mm, the Wi-Fi on my PS3 is so bad that I don't begrudge having to pay the price of a game for the Xbox 360 "n" 5Ghz wireless adapter. Since that still delivers great performance today. Sigh...

Looks like the antenna is a dead end and kind of points to the PS4 slim rumors honestly
That does seem more plausible though. I think there'd be more smoke for a new PS handheld, but I just don't see one coming unless they can make PS4 hardware low power/hear enough to work for handheld configuration.

Someone explain to me how the info in the OP means a new Sony handheld called trinity, cause all I see is a patent for a wireless part and someone breaking their NDA

What if Nintendo and Sony are merging.

- NEO is NX Console
- Trinity is NX handheld

It all makes sense!

The above is about as likely as Sony making a Vita replacement.

I just don't see Sony following in Microsoft's footsteps and announce two hardwares at a time. That would be stupid. How 'Slim' can they make the PS4 when it is already smaller than Xbox One S.

Plus it doesnt address the japanese market really either

I dunno

Its back to speculation again at this point. Are the Slim rumors true and they are leveraging more globally and competing directly with XBox?

Or are they looking to challenge Nintendo in the portable space with NX

Replace the rear touch with proper shoulder buttons and it's day 1. I love the Vita and can't see a future console without a portable remote play counterpart.

My understanding was that the attach rate was phenomenal.

As I vita owner, I bought a lot of games I would otherwise will not buy, at a point of time I'd buy anything that looked interesting. A lot of them include PS Plus games

I don't regret it though, Muramasa is amazing

As disappointing as Sony's support for Vita has been, it doesn't make sense to just cede that entire hardware sector to Nintendo after Vita's moderate success in Japan (mainly buttressed by third parties).

Even a slight power boost (enough to support UE4) and extra buttons in a hypothetical PS Vita Plus would at least keep the existing (and very hungry) fanbase happy and maintain some baseline of support from publishers like Namco, K-T, and Sega in Japan and indie devs in the West that would otherwise be all-in on NX.

Ok do any of the PS4 models use PIFA?

Those FCC filings should still be available and explicit

Either way you make good points and I think some PS4 used this antenna type

The only noted difference between the CUH-11XXA and the original CUH-10XXA model appears to be in its WLAN transceiver component (basically the Wi-fi part). While the basic specs are the same, the original Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) has been replaced with an Inverted-F Antenna (IFA)."
As you have found out, yes Sony used PIFAs for the PS4. As I said, they are used almost everywhere. I looked at FCC filings for recent PS4 models and the original, and while the newer reports do state that the WiFi antennas are IFAs now, as far as I can tell the antennas haven't really changed (they were PCB trace antennas from the beginning, can't get cheaper than that). While there is technically a difference between a PIFA and an IFA, all F-antennas tend to be referred to as PIFA, so all Sony really did was to update the description to be more accurate.

So if my understanding is correct the original PS4 has a PIFA antenna and it looks like this?

That can indeed be considered a PIFA, although the ground plane is quite small compared to the radiator. That is the Bluetooth antenna by the way, there are two more PIFAs that are used for WiFi.

Finfet and stick a external power brick to it while you are at it, you definately can get slimmer than the current PS4.

Love my Vita so, so much. I'd definitely buy an updated model with more power - it's been my go-to gaming device as I've been really busy these past couple weeks. A quick session of Tales of Hearts R, some old school Silent Hill and I'm supremely happy.

I'd want them to keep the rear touch for Vita BC at least. They could give it extra shoulder buttons as well - 3DS-style - and make a plug-in grip accessory with more comfortable trigger versions, along with a battery and its own rear touch.

I hope it's for a slim model released alongside Neo. A new Vita doesn't make any sense unless Sony starts to dramatically increase first party support for it.

Why is this still open? This has as about as much of a chance of happening as the NX does having an exclusive game at launch from Rockstar, Bethesda and EA.

I'm sure Sony want to prevent that. The question is at what cost though.

Still, eating some cost (the whole new portable project in red) to maintain relationship between Japanese third parties healthy makes sense though. Like I said without Vita PS4 would have gotten far less games from Japanese third parties.

Makes me remember about that supposed Vita 3000 at E3 with HDMI out, I would have upgraded day one for this!
Since my PSTV can't even play Danganronpa 1 and Disgaea 3 (yay Europe whitelist)

This is crazy.

I love it.

If Sony is actually taking a stand to compete directly with NX as a handheld, that will keep Nintendo from becoming complacent as the only major handheld next gen. I also just really do not want to see Vita never be succeeded, if nothing else because Nintendo is way worse at sales and indie relations it seems.

I think that this information is a little tenuous though. Like did the OP just make up the name? I see no reference to a "Trinity", and this WiFi module could just be for NEO or a slim revision of the PS4. I want to believe though.

Even though I've got a 32gb and 64gb card, I would love to see them reintroduce or succeed the Vita with a micro SD card compatible, L2/R2, L3/R3, high capability WiFi (for better remote play) PS Vita 2.0.

If it is a successor, matching roughly what NX could have, then Sony needs to lock down Persona 5 Portable. Get the contract signed. :p
