Ghostbusters made over 200 mil. Movie definitely isn't a financial success, but I remember a lot of folks on here saying "I'd be SHOCKED if it even made 200 mil", or "Will it even get that much!!!??"

So a great year for animations this year. Finding Dory, Kubo, Sausage Party, Secret Life of Pets, Ice Age: Collision Course and maybe even Sing.

I wish LAIKA would get more in box office returns for their amazing efforts, they're amazing, Kubo was wonderful and beautiful, but i'm glad they're never seemingly in danger of closing and will probably be making movies forever, as long as people keep buying NIKE shoes!

(the head of Laika, Travis Knight, is the son of Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike. Said founder of Nike is also the chairman, so that explains how Laika is able to continue make the films they want to make. What a fucking boss dad. I wish my dad would give millions of dollars into opening my own personal animation studio dedicated to making gorgeous stop-motion films.)

I heard Disney/Lucas Film is already reacting and are cutting up Episode 8 for fear of how good this movie is going to clean up at the box office.
The new mandate:
All Star War ships/Vehicles will now be Monster Trucks.

Ya, Old 2D and early 3D films (which were cheaper, even with inflation) bring down those totals.


CGI only budget averages over the past decade (no inflation adjustment):

Pixar - $184M
Walt Disney Animation Studios - $170M
Dreamworks Animation Studio - $144M
Blue Sky - $95M
Sony Pictures Animation - $94M
Illumination - $72M


Dreamworks has released a ridiculous number of animated films in the last 10 years...

Monster trucks is actually one of those movies that finished filming years ago, and has sat in release purgatory for awhile now. It was originally supposed to be a May film last year.

Toby Kebbell, bless him, needs to get a better agent. Between Wrath of the Titans, Fantastic Four, Warcraft, and Ben-Hur, he's consistently in blockbusters that critics hate and nobody sees.

Star Trek still has a few small territories (for whatever reason was scheduled for September in Latin America) also the japanese release in october. Ghostbusters is done with the international market, last release was Japan last friday.

Exodus is a bland and boring film which adapts a story everyone already knows without adding anything particularly interesting to it. The story of Moses done on screen for the 500th time is about as exciting as a new Hamlet adaptation.

Ben Hur is a terrible looking remake of a beloved classic, done in a totally cynical and half-assed way, without much serious marketing.

I think a good comparison would be that Passion of the Christ is to Biblical films what Avengers was to comic book films. Meanwhile Noah is Ang Lee's Hulk, Exodus is Superman Returns, and Ben Hur is Catwoman.
