Yikes. Building things in San Francisco is really tricky, considering a lot of the land that is built on used to be part of the bay. That one tower with expensive apartments (The Millennium Tower, I think) is sinking in to the unstable ground. Not to mention the earthquakes and the resulting liquefaction of said unstable ground. If I lived in SF, I'd want to ensure my building was secured by bedrock and not sand or mud or reclaimed land.
