Yup. I'm stupid. You're smart.

I mean if you're interpreting this remarkable night as "Democrats don't turn out, this is why Republicans are going to win", you literally and without exaggeration do not understand American politics and it's best you don't go around pretending you do for everyone's benefit.

I don't want to be mean here but there is no other way to put your farcical reading of the night's events. It's embarrassing, frankly.

Yeah. Republicans didnt show up either. The American populace as a whole is fucking dumb. Show up to vote! Who cares if its a special election. The office is still the same and still.just as important. If one-fifth of the Dems who voted in 2016 but didnt vote today, actually did vote today...Thompson would have won. Democrats have to work harder in heavily GOP districts. DNC and the 30 or so thousand Democrats who sat on their ass are to blame for the loss. GOP handed this to them and Dems were like nah, gotta watch the Royals.

A supermajority is 290; if the Democrats gained 100 seats (which, to be clear, will not happen) they'd have 294.

Midterms and special elections always have depressed turnout relative to a presidential year. The Democratic base turned out much better than the GOP did.

Supermajority for the House does what, exactly? Pass amendments?

I know for the Senate you need that sweet 67 to start sending folks to jail.

Why didnt the 28-30,000 Dems show up and vote Thompson? There's your problem...not me.

Alternative: "I have no clue what the fuck happens in politics, I just want to pretend the DNC is at fault 'cuz I'm still mad at them for 2016 *pouty face*"

Because the electorate as a whole do not think senate/house races are as important as presidential races. This is never going to change, ever. So you strategize for what you know will happen: Turning out a much higher percentage than the other base in off elections. You don't strategize for utopian bullshit ideals and waste money to try to achieve them. All you're doing is trying to shit on a remarkable result because you literally. do. not. understand. how. American. politics. work.

Which is what happened. We over performed even to the most optimistic projections.

You just won't let reality get in the way of your narrative, huh?

you'd hope this is the springboard for the dnc and the dccc to at least pay some lip service for other longshots like that montana election. ain't gonna cause any huge upsets if they don't at least try a bit. nonetheless, still very encouraging for tighter races.

Had the DNC attached themselves to Thompson he would have tanked.

Veto overrides are the other major thing.

Anyway, tonight was hugely positive for the Democrats' future prospects. This will make recruiting candidates in more favourable seats much easier, and I now think they could actually win in Georgia.

Keep up the good work, Trump!

Do you even know what the DNC is?

Yes, they're the mean people who stole the primaries from Bernie. If only we had told the 3 million voters who preferred Hillary "no", we would be in the White House right now. And then they had the gall to steal the chair from Ellison! Such an undemocratic institution, truly shameful.

If they follow my thirty point plan to paint the airwaves with millions of wasteful dollars in a R+15 district, 30,000 extra Democrats would have turned out!

Understanding how politics in America by district works != smugness. It = facts.

Margins are exciting and all, but I really hope we can actually get that first red district win in Georgia 6. I think that's the first one we can actually call a loss a small disappointment.

God dammit guys my eyes are going to roll out of my head staaaaaaahhhhpppp

As long as you don't waste everyone's time trying to bullshit your way into a conversation that you're laughably in over your head on, they can roll their way to Kansas 4th for all I care.

Facts are facts. This is a remarkable result, and bodes incredibly well for 2018. Stunning over-performance by Democrats. Now if you want to pretend otherwise, be my guest, but the facts aren't going to change for your benefit. And everyone else is going to sit around highlighting and dismantling the ignorance repeatedly, so that there's no confusion.

Yeah for this guy to only win by 8 points in a district Trump won by 33 points? Thats massively encouraging, espescially since Trump vouched for the guy.

Pretty much all in now. Turned from R+15 to R+4. D+11 swing yes please.

So many seats are at play with this result. So many. My God, and this is still early days in Trump's presidency. Presidents traditionally get less popular by the mid-terms, not more!

Georgia's race is gonna be crazy to watch.

And stupid arrogance and blindness is the major cross-section for Hillary supporters which they have in common with Hillary.

Hillary supporters are arrogant, sure! Who gives a fuck. Do you have an argument against why this is a remarkable result (which is on topic), or are we going to bring all the political neophytes back to re-litigate why their savior didn't win for the billionth time?

Hold up, people are mad at the DNC for losing an R+15 district in Kansas? This election was always going to be about the margin of victory.

How interesting of you to go after me and not the guy attacking Sanders supporters.

No doubt it's a good swing for Democrats, but I'd be a lot happier if the headlines weren't...

Republican Wins Kansas Election Seen As Trump Test (MSNBC)

This is a republican win for the news cycle. That it was far closer than it should be won't be the headline.

To be fair, he wasn't the one to bring the primary back up.

Is that really a Republican win in the long run? I imagine headlines like that just make GOP voters even more complacent.

So good news, polling is accurate and dem surge is real. Bad news, Ossoff is still polling in the 40s in GA-6 so if polls are indeed accurate, it will go to a runoff.

Nothing you can do about it I guess.

All the more reason that Georgia 6 is a little bit of a must win.

Who cares about the headline. No way are they breathing a sigh of relief at the capitol or in the whitehouse tonight.

It's not interesting at all. Yes, everyone including me should be quiet about Sanders as well. I obviously have a preference, so this is not psychologically interesting either - Sanders voters are fucking annoying when you have to discuss a political subject of any depth. But only one of these groups is displaying the shocking ignorance of the facts right now, so those are the target since it is on topic.

The same people who think apparently it is the DNC's fault that the 30,000 extra Dems who participated in the presidential election didn't show up to bury this R+15 district.

It's just ignorance on display, that's all and that's the target. These are the window drivers, those who get into politics when they have a Christ-figure to worship (like those who voted for Obama on "change" and then are shocked when he can't just pass whatever legislation he wants), but never pay attention otherwise and then like to talk authoritatively on the issue when they see things they simply do not understand.

Remove the undecideds and he's at like 49.
