TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

The point of instant isn't so much of how fast it comes out, but how much clear room you need to do it. Here is a good test.

Go into practice mode and pick King. King has a running throw, f f f + 2 + 4. How close can you do it to the opponent? I can do it even if King is as close to the character as possible. when I do f * f f + 2 + 4. The same isn't possible otherwise.

Also, the neutral moment is very short.

Oh nice! Interesting. I thought about that but I couldn't get Hwoarang's WR3 to come out if I inputted 3 after the forwards (the technique described in the ATP video). But if I do f, *, f, f+2 with the final f and 2 being pressed simultaneously, Hwoarang's WR3 comes out even if you're right next to the opponent. Thanks for this tip!

isn't it an automatic win for you?

I still think Rage Arts are a garbage addition even if they aren't ruining my experience as badly as I expected.

I miss when Tekken was a pure martial arts game
with robots, kangaroos, demons, bears, and weird gods.

not too huge of a fan of it either. Hate playing turtle with my rage'd opponent but baby steps. Otherwise Tekken 7 wouldve just been tekken 6.

I know I could have put a few punches in while falling down before the screw attack and I know there is a better finisher to it. Any tips?

As much as some are complaining about the lack of offline modes besides the great story mode, treasure battle is fun and addicting.

I haven't played Tekken since 3. I've played a shit tonne of Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat (9 and 10).

Jesus it's tough getting back into Tekken. I feel like I don't know how to do anything.

What is a good character to start with again? I've tried Yoshi ( my previous fave in Soul Calibur too) and Jin. Jin seems easier.

edit: noticed people suggesting 'AvoidthePuddle'

Yoshi only has a few iconic similarities to SC, and even then most of those aren't applied the same way. He's up there as one of the most complicated characters in the game. Of course you can always play barebones and stick to your "top 10", but you're missing out on a lot of ways to open up those annoying super turtles.

This guide does a good job of pointing top 10/15's. Take a gander.

And then there's Fergus' basic breakdown of the fighters here.

I like Treasure mode but for some reason it doesn't feel as varied as ghost mode was in terms of costumes. Could be just misremembering.

oh, then yeah your frustration is definitely justified. however: if they changed the system to make it an automatic win would that make it more acceptable?

Definitely. It would remove the frustration aspect completely as far as I am concerned. The moment someone decides to ragequit, the game is usually heavily in your favor already and almost over. They're not handing me the win for free - I earned it. I deserve it.

In Tekken 7, characters share more costumes. And I recall in treasure battle sometimes fighting the same enemy three times in a row. In ghost battle, you're allowed to choose who to fight next, in Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Also I find it kind of frustrating that I don't enjoy any of the other female characters besides Josie and Xiaoyu. Asuka isn't my playstyle, Nina is expert tier difficult to master (not interested in her design either) Eliza is fucking weird as hell to play, and Lucky Chloe makes me want to jump off a bridge. and I'm not learning Eliza or Kazumi since i know damn well they won't be in Tekken 8. Katarina is next on my play list but yeah, she just looks like (Key word LOOKS) Christie, not very interesting design wise.

Wish we'd get a female like Zarya from Overwatch that doesn't have the same skinny body archetype in female fighting games.

I was so damn sure that I'd like defensive play in this game. Every other game, I like playing a reactive style where I whiff punish and play almost a hit and run style.

Yet in this game, I like playing offensive. I thought I'd love playing Asuka, turns out I love playing Kazumi and Katarina. This game is so much fun man, I can't wait for online to work properly.

You traitor

shouldn't expect more from a fang player

That player list is growing, here's hoping we can get a lot of tournaments going this weekend with the PCTekken crew.

People are probably gonna not agree with me on this, but I think revenge mechanics isn't necessarily the way to go with these games...

If you really wanna make it more player friendly, give something that will actually help people deal with things at a basic level, like, say, have the character flash a certain color when they are either punishable or safe on block so that people who haven't seen the 1 million strings have an indicator of what to do if they actually do somehow block things.

(then have the option to turn it off for ranked or tournaments or whatever... if I'm just dicking around with my friends and see random things, I'd like to be able to understand what I'm getting hit by right away)

Then they go into training mode (or watch a replay of the match), have an easily programmable dummy that will do the same move/string, then you get a list of possible punishes for your character that flashes at the side whenever you block something.

I feel like... this stuff is so straightforward if you sat down and thought about how to give the player more information, but they want you to bend over backwards to find anything.

(like... it's probably in a random video I can watch somewhere, but why not just have the system in the game when all it is is math? You're more likely to learn something because the system is giving you the feedback whenever you do something)

But then, they don't even give us frame data in training mode after all these years, so whatever :v

(spacing might be hard to teach, but you could make like a mode where they throw tennis balls at you and whatever and you try to learn how to punish the ball thrower (they can even give you the timing), who throws out progressively more difficult shit, consistently... something creative, whatever... I think you kinda do this in story mode, but I think people get lost because of all the focus on the cinematics)

I feel like, a lot of the time, the mechanics fighting games introduce in order to make things more new player friendly end up being these tools that veterans use to wail on newbs even harder lol

And then at, higher than beginner level, it becomes this extra thing you may or may not have to deal with, such as baiting out the rage arts mash or whatever.

(like... them shits have armor too, so it's scary because I've seen dudes throw that shit out while I'm + on block, so I go into this extra mind game as to whether or not someone will throw it out after I've established an advantage... then they just throw me :v)

TL;DR

We need to... give people more information (that you can interact with comprehensively), not come up with random mechanics.

(but then... maybe, at the end of the day... people want flash as opposed to information, so I don't know lol)

Is there a place that explains this game's basics of basics? Like, I'd read the manual but there isn't one. I just found out through the ingame tips that I can tech before I hit the ground and I'm getting pissed off that I know nearly nothing about the game's basics like how to recover from getting launched and knocked down.

Lost tons of online matches at first, but now, today, I'm starting to win more than lose! Winning in Tekken is really fucking satisfying. Fucking love this game, goddamn

See this is another thing:

They could come up with a mode where you're meant to be hit and then wake up from the ground (and to entice people to even grind the damn thing, they can give you money for costumes).

They teach you all the wakeup options possible and have you practice with your character in various situations.

Getting up in this game is fucking difficult even after they made it easier lol
I've been having fun, but between treasure battle and all the customization, it feels like I'm playing a worse VF4 without a good tutorial mode.
the worst thing about this game is the lack of tutorial mode. I feel so bad for new players who go into the training mode and see all these settings and movelist on the command lists.

what's funny is that all they did for this installment is combine several modes from previous games into one mode to make treasure mode and it works just fine

so why don't they just do that then? all other competitive mp games let the remaining team win if the other quits. i feel like i've heard the term "rage quit" in the convos of fightings for years, so why not just turn it into an automatic win? it would make sense

Anyone else kind of hoping Tekken x SF gets resurrected after seeing Akuma as proof of concept? I was always more interested in Namco's take on SF than Capcom's take on Tekken. At least maybe Chun Li as DLC or Ryu.

I am absolute trash at fighting games, I haven't played a Tekken game since Tekken 2 on PS1. I bought this and damn if it isn't fucking cool as hell.

So there are lots of people who have the platinum for this on PS4.

How in the world are you getting it to connect for even one ranked match?

The 8th and 12th Dan trophies can be done offline.

And I connect just fine, my Paul is already 6th dan online going for 7th.

"The Mishima Zaibatsu (conglomerate) has declared war on the world and started large scale operations. G Corp’s has risen up to oppose the Mishima Zaibatsu. The world has proclaimed and supported them as heroes. But, the one pulling the strings at G Corp’s behind the scenes is none other than Kazuya Mishima, father of Jin Kazama. As the battles rages between the two companies, the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Jin Kazama, suddenly disappears.

G Corp’s takes advantage of this and presses their attack on the Mishima Zaibatsu in various territories to gain great tactical advances. At this time, one man enters the Mishima Zaibatsu. That man is Heihachi Mishima, the first head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and perhaps the embodiment of the company.

Control of the world hangs in the balance between a fight between father and son: Heihachi Mishima and Kazuya Mishima.

Please do not attempt the moves in this game because they may be dangerous and lead to dangerous situations."

This thought just hit me... where the hell is the president of the united states? Guest character?

I'm talking specifically about the win one ranked online match.

You're just pretty lucky then since everyone else is having issues connecting. xD

After starting with a record of 2 wins and 18 losses, I am starting to get wins more regularly now :)

All thanks to proper spacing/back dashing and opening people up by hitting them low.
