"The Last Night" (Milkshake Duck incarnate) E3 Trailer [XBO/Win10/Steam 2018]

Goddamn that comparison. A guy making a game about his shitty worldview doesn't equate to someone making a film about child rape. I hope you know that. Not everything needs to be so extreme.
It. Was. An. Analogy. The artists views are front and center for this art, they're the main draw of the art piece!

The creator is telling you what the game is about

How do we separate?

Now there's a 'what if' scenario the world never knew it wanted to ask.

Humans first knew the era of survival. Then they knew the era of work. Now they live in the era of leisure. Machines have surpassed human labour not only in strength, but in precision, intellect, and creativity. Stabilised by universal income, people struggle to find their calling or identity, and define themselves by what they consume, rather than what they create.

The Last Night immerses you in the everyday life of Charlie, a second-class citizen living in a city brimming with augmentation and citizens living a gamified existence -- none of which Charlie can experience himself due to a childhood accident. Apathetic and disheartened by the seemingly pointless world around him, Charlie is presented with an opportunity to take matters into his own hands. But at what risk?

So the basic plot of the game is that universal basic income has ruined creativity? What do you think happened to Charlie?

Regardless of what the Huniepop devs believe in, I don't think the point of Huniepop is that "feminism is bad." The supposed premise of this game sounds so incredibly unappealing I have no interest in the game any longer.

Exactly. If he kept his hate completely to himself on Twitter, this premise would make me feel pretty disgusted about the whole studio and wish I'd never touched the game. I was tempted to go the humble bundle route, but that tweet about the story really torpedoes that idea.

It's a minor thing in the context of the rest of the fuckery being dug up here, but I couldn't help noticing this nugget of gold on the game's Steam page:

True professionals, these blokes.

To be honest, they aren't the only ones to write cute messages in their system requirements and they won't be the last. If it wasn't for the negative spotlight they're getting for the dumb things Soret said you wouldn't be complaining about it. Out of all the things to give them shit for, this isn't one of them.

I wonder if the lack of a PS4 release is because Sony actually did the job Microsoft should have done and said no thanks.

Or maybe he and his writer played Horizon and took offense to its themes. : P

Isn't this a timed exclusive? Regardless, I don't think I'm getting this.

No, he is trying to isolate his voice as a call for ethics in journalism from the voices of those who used it as a platform to attack Zoe and Anita. He, in his own way, is adovating decency. Whether he is doing so in a constructive way is up for debate.

Where is that present, at all? Everything he's talking about there is identity and gender politics.

Microsoft is going to 100% drop this game if the devs keep digging their heels in on Twitter. This is how the game quickly becomes radioactive and the controversy swallows up any merits it might have.

Hey, writer of the game. Here's an idea:

NeoGaf: The evil message board conglomerate as the vilian of the piece, looking to torpedo the main character's chance of success with a lady because they think he's a creep.

Come on, you know you want to.

It was about separating the art from the artist. Polanski raped a young girl but some people can look past his crime because he is a talented director that makes a diverse set of movies. In this case you can't separate the art from the artist because he has literally made the game about his anti-feminist beliefs. The art is the artist in this case there is no separation.

The creator's tweet tying his sociological views into the game are breaking my heart. I was *so* excited seeing this today. Trying really hard to invent rationalizations to keep my hype but struggling to come up with anything. :(

Didn't expect an MLK summoning in here lol

If the writing in this game ends up being good I'll be legitimately shocked. Most GG/MRA types have proven to be less than articulate. It's like when right-wingers try to write comedy.

Wait this happened in this topic?

My god.

The Microsoft Studios GM already deleted the tweet she made to him, so something is probably maybe going on behind the scenes but don't read too much into it.

One so extreme. That I can't take it seriously. Yes.

And I don't think so. The Death of the Author is a thing that exists. Someone a few posts above me mentioned Enders Game. I like that book. And the author seems to be a complete madmen. Someone who would moste likely hate me. But doesn't stop me from liking the book. Sure it's not about homophobia. But we also don't know if The Last Night really ends up being about anti-feminism.

Finally. Been following this for so long. It looks even prettier than I had hoped it would be

Yeah we always knew the game was pretty but i was blown away by that trailer. Highlight of E3 for me so far

yikes

This is depressing. Talk about hype deflating.

What the hell does "extreme feminism" mean anyway?

[Fade in on a rainslick alley]

Narrator: "The year is 2085. Women are paid extremely the same as men."

The rain drops hit the asphalt, puddles of water forming around the indentations in the streets. The bright neon lights shining through the air. I hurry my pace as I don't want my brand new slick fedora and katana to get any water damage. As I pass through a side alley, its blackness engulfing even the brightest of lights, I hear a muffled cry in the distance. Followed by some laughter. I stop in my tracks and hesitate on my direction.

Ultimately my aim for righteousness and equality for all makes me go towards the cries for help. As I approach the noises become clearer. Louder. I distinctly recognize the cries having a deeper tone to them, while the laughs a screeching bird-like mocking pitch. I finally arrive. I hide behind a trash can and peek beyond the corner.

A man is lying on the floor, naked and in tears. Three feminazis surrounding him with baseball bats and chains.

"Please," pleads the man, "all I want is for everyone to get along equally, in this perfect society where nobody is treated unequally and stuff"

The women stop laughing. One of them approaches the man with a wicked smile.

"Fuck you, my goal is to bench 200 lbs and get a man fired" she says, her nazi accent clear as day.

"You go girl" says the other one.

Beyond any of his stupid personal politics, this makes the game sound dumb as fuck.

Yup, It just sounds so fucking stupid.

I don't care what political side a person is on, there is no way someone can read that tweet and not think this entire game sounds lame as fuck.

I love how once per page we got some poor excited sod posting without looking through the thread lol.

"Wow! This looks great!"

Feminism is one route toward a more egalitarian society, you dolt.

And what does "extreme feminism" even mean?

What a waste. An amazing-looking game built around a concept on-par with Trump's IQ.

These ups and downs of E3 season, I tell ya what

do not quote barthes to say that being a fucking douche and writing a game about that is ok

I was wondering why this game was so popular, I didn't really like the look of it.

It's actually opposite of popular I can see now!

It does look good.

As to whether it will be good, that's sort of the conversation here.

We can give credit where credit due while taking umbrage with disagreeable viewpoints.
