While going through GOT again with a friend seeing it for the first time we reached Tyrion's Confession during his trial in Season 4 and i got reminded how amazing Peter Dinklage Nailed that scene .

He really conveyed letting all that pent up hate and disdain for everyone in Kings landing that was boiling underneath the surface out in the open .

Every sentence is just him spewing pure concentrated venom .

Not a word was said, but choreography and stunt work is acting too.

Al Pacino as Michael in the Godfather...when he plans on killing two people

The facial work alone deserved an academy award (especially at the 4 minute mark in the above clip) A real shame this performance was not nominated for best actor.....(he got a support nomination)

Al Pacino in godfather 2 when he finds out about the abortion. Just the slow rage building up in his face. Special mention to all of Daniel day Lewis on there will be blood. Mainly the baptism scene.

Harold Russell in this one scene from The Best Years of our Lives

It's such an emotionally powerful scene because the artificiality of film disappears and we're just observing how difficult it was adjusting to the physical scars of war. It almost doesn't feel like acting from a script, but rather observing a conversation that happened to him in real life.

Sure, it doesn't feel like a professional acting, but I think that was the point.

Christoph Waltz in inglorious Basterds.

Gary Oldman in basically anything because that man just disappears in to the role.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan has a genuinely good moment of acting from William Shatner

"Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most.... [voice breaks] human."

The milkshake line is most famous but I love how Day Lewis just lays into Dano with years of hatred starting with like "I pumped all the oil out from under you years ago. You have nothing."

Unforgiven, when the Kid is talking about the man he's just assassinated.

This scene destroys me and it's all there in his eyes.

I just watched this two days ago on HBO Go, despite owning it as well.

William: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

William: We all got it coming, kid.

Ellen Burstyn's acting in this is crushing to me because she talks and acts EXACTLY like my wife's now-passed grandmother and many other women her age I observe in my neighborhood who lived or live in that same situation. I can't watch it without feeling overwhelming empathy and sadness for that specific loneliness she so fucking nails here.

As far as I recall from an anecdote on the making-of, the camera panning away at one point is actually the operator having started to cry. I mean come on, that's crazy talent.

Now for something completely different:

Robert DeNiro's undercurrent of naivety to Travis Bickle's character

That's why I love that guy. Other famous actors are famous actors playing a role. People go "I wanna see <famous person> in that role."

Gary Oldman just completely BECOMES that guy. It's not "Gary Oldman plays a character." Gary Oldman disappears, and that character just pops into existence as that character.

To answer the question for myself instead of replying to others great choices:

Scent of a Woman

The scene where Lt. Colonel Frank Slade is about to kill himself in the hotel room. Al Pacino at his absolute best.

Lt. Colonel Frank Slade: What life? I got no life! I'm in the dark here. You understand? I'm in the dark!

Not to mention the scene in the school auditorium at the end. While yes, I do believe Mr. Pacino was supped with his Godfather nominations, his best work, imo, is in Scent of a Woman.

here's my scene of choice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ6p4t3StSc&t=22s

Sadly that clip doesn't show the build of Charles walking into the room and being scared at what's about to happen. Fuck, this movie just gets to me.

A bit of a typical answer, considering how relatively recent Breaking Bad is, but maaaan does this scene still give me shivers

Crawlspace, Yes.

I was on the floor at the end of that episode, it was that tense. Also Ozymandias, that Walter/Hank scene was so good.

Gary Oldman just completely BECOMES that guy. It's not "Gary Oldman plays a character." Gary Oldman disappears, and that character just pops into existence as that character.

And every time it's like "Huh, that was Gary Oldman?" He's unrecognizable.

Don't know if it's my favorite but just off the top of my head I'd say Baldwin in Glengarry.

I honestly didn't know Gary Oldman existed until I looked him up one day.

Then I looked over a bunch of movies I had watched over the years and had a lot of "holy shit" moments when I saw his name over and over again.

One of the best recent examples is "that scene" in the first episode of Westworld. The scene where Dolores's dad is talking to the scientists from the park. That scene just sucked me in and sold me on the series. Such a powerful scene. It gave me goosebumps.

Yeah, that "courtroom" scene is also strong as hell. Shit, the Thanksgiving dinner scene, the tango, etc. The movie is filled with great moments. That's why it's easily in my top 10.

Oh ya, Thanksgiving is hilarious too; just his brother's face when he hears Pacino yelling "Aye Willy!!". What a film.

Walter and the Dude. Any scene... take your pick.

DUDE
You brought a fucking Pomeranian bowling?

WALTER
What do you mean "brought it bowling"? I didn't rent it shoes. I'm not buying it a fucking beer. He's not gonna take your fucking turn, Dude.
