Forza Horizon 4 review.

You see... there’s this thing called Google... and it lets you look up stuf...oh never mind.

My apologies. I assumed that AgentP was still talking about previous FH entries considering the way (s)he talked about FH and didn't explicitly talk about FH4 until near the end of the post.

the genre has nothing to do with the hype level

The Walking Dead season 1 popularity blew up even though the audience for that genre was almost non existent

before and after Spider-man came out, people talk about it everywhere and praise it like it's an amazing ground breaking game like Witcher 3 or Zelda: BOTW even though Spider-man is just a generic open world game with repetitive quest, main quests that are fetch quests, boring and repetitive melee combat and tons of collectibles and Ubisoft towers, every generic open world thing is in the game, and yet it's popularity exploded, don't tell me because Spider man is one of the most popular characters, The amazing spider man 2 video game sucked balls and had zero hype, i know it was a bad game, so popularity is not based on character, we all know why the new Spider man, despite being a mediocre game, yet received high praise and sold millions in days, the answer begins with S and ends with Y

Forza Horizon is top of it's genre, no competition at all, it's like Forza horizon is Witcher 3 and all the other racing games are Dragon Age 2, and yet it's not that popular, you don't see anyone excited about it in social media or among friends and colleagues, it's like it doesn't exist

Why did The Walking Dead Season 1 do so well? Because it came at a time when adventure games were practically dead. It capitalised on that to generate hype and revitalized the genre. Naturally there was going to be a lot of hype around the game. You might notice that season 2 of The Walking Dead generated significantly less hype.

It's almost as if underhyped and underrated are two very different things. Your problem is you can't seem to tell the difference. Forza Horizon is not underrated by any stretch of the imagination. FH3 is a racing game that released to huge critical acclaim, was a massive commercial success and was played by at least 9mil people. That's not underrated.

The question you're trying to ask is "why is the hype for FH4 not so high" and there's a good conversation to be had there eg, things like this being the 4th in a massively successful franchise, the fact that racing games are still niche and that there's really not that much to be said other than "dis game gon be gud". Maybe you're not hearing a lot of conversations on social media because there's just not that much that can be said about a game that everyone already knows is going to be great. It's not like we can discuss fundamental gameplay changes, because it's a racing game. I'm going to be doing more of the same that I did in FH3 and I'm going to love it. I rarely hear lots of conversations on social media about the new FIFA game, even though people are going to love it anyway and it will move millions of copies. What is there to discuss on a game that doesn't make massive, fundamental changes?

On the other hand, saying one of the most successful and acclaimed racing titles of this generation is underrated is just outright absurd. Underrated implies it doesn't enjoy the critical or sales success that it deserves. That's simply not the case for the Forza Horizon franchise.

Because more and more of us are gaming on 144 hz monitors and having that option would be nice.

Once you game at a solid 144 hz or higher its really hard to eve go back to 60 hz.

But some people just do not "feel" much difference between 60 and 144 but the difference is huge to me.

The difference is huge. I have a 40" 4K 60Hz Phillips monitor hooked up to my PC, the real estate is nice for photoshop/illustrator/etc. My friend has an overclocked monitor that can go past 144Hz through some wizardry (I didn't even know it was a thing) and the difference is unbelievable. I swear it moves smoother than reality. It's gotten me to the point that I want to buy a second monitor for gaming and keep the 40" for the rest but it's a question of available space. I think the smaller the monitor the less important refresh is. A 30fps game on my 40" can look downright choppy compared to the same refresh rate on my laptop for instance.

like i said before, i don't want to get into an argument, i said everything i wanted to say, in summary, FH deserves MUCH more

and i'll finish this discussion with this gentlemen's spot-on quote
one simple reason: its not on ps4, but on xbox one. lol

Fair enough. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, even when they're objectively wrong.

I tested a 1080p 240hz monitor and while the jump from 144hz to 240hz didn't feel huge at the time when I dropped back to 144hz I could tell it was not as fluid.

My main monitor is a Samsung CHG70 that works perfectly with the Xbox 1440p/120hz update would really love to see Devs try to push past 60 fps even if it would be at 1080p.

Fantastic scores, I can't wait for this one. Forza Horizon 3 is one of my favorite games this gen by far, this looks even sexier than that.

This is the first time i wished i had updated to Windows 10 lol. I might look at getting another cheap SSD and installing Windows 10 on it for this game.

I don't like simulations, but it's one game I could get into.

Though it looks like an overpowered Asphalt 9, as in it looks like you have to either grind repetitive events or constantly bleed micro-transaction money to progress. If not, then it looks amazing.

It's about as much of a sim as it is a mobile game.

There is a demo out there. Try it at least and see for yourself. I tried the demo and it is fantastic. The game itself also looks pretty spanktacular.

Graphically the game is amazing. Jaw was on the floor for the entire demo. The folks who were yelling downgrade (mostly in retaliation for the Spider-Man dust up) have suddenly gone silent. That should tell you all you need to know.

Forza Horizon is the saving grace of the racing genre this gen, which on a whole has been a total letdown.

Horizon 3 for me was the best racing game in years, and I expect Horizon 4 to take that title from it.

It sucks the demo made me start over every time or I would play it more. My 1080ti kicks it in the dick though on this ultrawide and good on them for supporting it. I wish more games would support it but been a fan for a long time so tuesday I guess I'll join gamepass to get in on this beast.

Releasing these kind of games day and date into Game Pass is simply unprecedented value.

Sony better get in line.

it's not just about the scores

i won't get into an argument here so i'll just cut to the chase, would you say Forza Horizon 4 has at least 1\6 of Spider-man's hype ?? answer honestly and you'll know why i said Forza Horizon is underrated, and to be more accurate, it's HEAVILY Underrated

Isn't that xbox owners fault for not getting excited over their own games? Has a ps4/switch owner who's never owned an xbox this game does indeed look really great. I'm more of a sim racing guy but I hope it pushes polyphony to step it up since the playground/turn 10 guys can push out quality games like this every 2 years.

I want to play some Tag again. Simple modes like that need to come back.

Man...the characters, playing dress up in skinny jeans, emotes, all the other awful personalization stiff is a huge turn off. I know I can ignore much of it, but what a missed opportunity this was. Hope PG does away with the millenial festival garbage next go around.

I dont. I think it adds a connection to your cars and your place in the world. Before it was just pick an avatar and they sit in the seat. Horizon is about car culture. Cruising. Tuning. Partying. Meet ups.

Ita good that we can now have an approximation of ourselves via character form to play in that digital version of those events imo.

It gives the game a life now instead of just a garage with cars in it.

I agree whole heartedly. TDU2 is one of my favourite games of all time, it was like the perfect Car Guy Pokemon. The ability to buy different cars, houses/garages and clothing really gave you a sense of connection with the world and made is to easy to immerse yourself. I used to just spend hours driving around in my favourite rides driving like a normal person and just getting lost while listening to music or a book or something. It really was my Euro Truck Simulator 2. I'm hoping FH4 will become the new version of that for me.

Glad I ended up getting a gaming PC. The last racing game i liked was Burnout Takedown on PS2. I played the demo of this last week and I loved it. I'm not a racing fan anymore but this game got me hooked just from the demo. Only problem for me is it lands on AC day too.

LOL! Will FH4 sell in more than 3.3 mil. copies in 3 days?? Every Forza till date never was a system seller, FH4 is no exception too.
Spider-Man pushed a lot PS4 consoles. Really, game is that good. Much more than you can realize. You will see that next month in NPD. So, you were saying...

Talk about salty, who mentioned PS4 level of sales? I said there is nothing like it on PS4 so it COULD sell some consoles. the last Forzr Horzion game shifted 9 million copies

Yet you mentioned PS4 for some reason at first. Spider-man is that good. Really!
9 million players = 9 million copies sold. Man, are you dumb? Xbone fans will never learn. Never

I mentioned PS4 because there is nothing like it currantly on PS4 so therefore and opertunity to sell console, just as Spiderman is an opertunity to sell games. It always amazes me how defensive PS4 owners get when there is good news on xbox front

You mentioned PS4 for no good reason. You didn't said there is nothing like FH4 in racing genre currently on PS4 ( and there isn't ) and i wouldn't say a thing, but you STRICTLY meant there is no good game overall like FH4 on PS4 at the moment that would sell some consoles. Your statement is wrong and Spider-man proved you're wrong. Spider-man is just as good game as FH4.

Man, I'm still playing the first game. I'm trying to play them in order of release.
i would say just skip to the 4th one, each game is better than the previous so you would be playing the best one

Its not like there is a story you need to follow lol unless you are interested in certain setting of the game, just play the latest one

I think you misunderstood. The member implied there were no good games on PS4 that are the same as FH4, not that the system has no good games or games that sell consoles. Let's roll back the system wars a little here. There are threads much better suited for those discussions than this one.

I think you have misunderstood what I have said, there is no game like Forza Horizon 4 on the PS4 that equals it, not that there is no good games on PS4. if you look at my past posts you will see that I have praised many PS4 games even though I own an Xbox.
