I want the PS5 to fail and XSX+XSS to succeed

The other side of the coin is what good did the success of Xbox 360 do? From my standpoint they had a good couple of years at the start, but after that it was all downhill. The gen was overlong and ended with a whimper, actually worse than that it ended up with the media proclaiming "consoles are dead" and MS jumping on TV TV TV to try and sell their successor device.

That is what the 360 gen represents to me, and why MS should never be allowed a position of leadership within gaming.

I'll just say this, Netflix shouldn't be what anyone wants there streaming service to be compared to as far as content. All the stuff people actually watched got pulled and put on other services.

i want MS to have a successful generation just to give Sony competition. i want both to give their all to try win us over.

i'm going with Xbox this generation because for the first time it just makes sense to me. I've got every playstation at launch so it feels a bit weird not wanting a PS5 lol. i might still get one in a couple years if there's more than 2 exclusives i want to play. on Xbox i want to play flight sim, halo, forza, hellblade, state of decay and then there are other games like avowed and everwild that look interesting. not only exclusives but Xbox is by far the more powerful console and i think the controller will be better than PS5. also there's game pass which is far better value than ps+/ps now.

I would love if Microsoft piveted to just branding their own PC's that come with a option to run xbox OS or windows.

And then Sega could come back into consoles and everything would be right in the world.

I can't wrap my head around wanting Sony to fail instead of wanting Microsoft to improve.

Microsoft pushed Sony to improve during the PS3/360 era (and subsequently into current gen).

Sony wanted to continue down the route of exotic hardware that had proved to be so successful during the PS2 generation and were blindsided by Microsoft having a console that was not only easy to develop games for but was also a massive step up over the previous Xbox in terms of how much it offered from a consumer perspective.

It's not whether a company "fails" or not. When a company does well (or better) comparative to their competition then they get rewarded. On the other hand if a company does badly for a sustained period of time (whether that's through poor pricing and/or not offering enough quality and/or misreading what the market wants) then they need to improve or it will lead to them needing to exit the market.

The company that does badly doesn't drive improvement from their competitors, but rather it's the company that does well which drives and inspires their competition to improve.

I get what you're saying OP, but perhaps you did not word it very well. I totally agree that Sony needs solid competition from Microsoft (and Nintendo for that matter) and I hope the Series X and S are successful even though I am not getting one.

That being said, I do of course want the PS5 to be great and grow a great library of games. I'm hopeful we can have strong competition without either new console failing hard.

I don't. People might lose their jobs so I always expect that companies are successful with their products... Also, if they are not, that means that their products are not that good... So much negativity these days...

Was the 7th gen, an even battle, really better than this gen, a slaughter? No it wasn't.

Sometimes I think the "competition is necessary" stuff is maybe not complete bollocks but certainly overblown.

PS3 Sony was good, but PS4 Sony has been fantastic.

Their first party games are on another level than before.

Well, I think PS4 is better than PS3 in basically every single way, including games, but I do get your point. However, don't forget if something like that happens, tons of people will be fired, studios will be closed etc.

Yes, but on the other hand imagine all these upsell opportunities MS will show to Sony! Want a class on how to milk your user base and have them bragging about it day-in-day-out? Let Xbox succeed again.

When that polls about our age was up I mentioned how I found it amusing that all these guys with anime girls/video game waifus as avatars I post with everyday are 40 years old. But reading this thread makes that fact even funnier.

A true console warrior never retires!

At least make some funny Banderas gifs like last generation ffs!

Lol what a silly silly post.

you should actually be demanding better from MS and not saying Sony should fail, Sony are trying to deliver a good next gen whereas MS are just talking the talk, but unable to walk the walk.

If anyone should fail (Which I don’t think any side should) should be MS.

Their lack of games and care going into next-gen speaks a lot.

- not interested in how many consoles sold

- trying to push Gamepass constantly

- talking bout the worlds most powerful console with nothing to show

- hyping eveyrhing and anything through the roof

If you are going to want something that you have no control over why go for the demise of the console to achieve it? Just go to the source and say you want Sony to remove the fee to play online and add more games to PS+.

Healthy competition does not mean worse products do not get spanked by better ones and it is especially important this is the case when smaller companies are competing against bigger ones and the smaller company has the better product: see Switch launch aligned vs Xbox One and PS4.

I'd prefer both to do well so there's healthy competition across the board. This current console gen felt pretty damn one sided TBH. Would like to not have that again.

That doesn't even make sense. Some of tje best games Sony has ever outputted were all on PS4. the last 6 or so months of PSPPlus games have been awesome as well. Free multiplayer is not off the table just because Sony is successful.

This is just a bad take.

who is the smaller company in that example? Nintendo?

Its curious how with the amazing output of games sony its the lazy one here

i agree, It is ridiculous how Sony is delivering the goods every single year vs the mediocre list of games Ms is constantly releasing and Sony is arrogant and lazy. I wonder what they think of MS xstudios They are as mediocre as ever but I love them for trying.

Instead of Sony failing, you should want Xbox to do equally as good, a serious threat that forces Sony to make some changes to have an advantage. Either side failing is bad for consumers.
I hope Sony and Xbox are highly successful and sell shit tons but are close to equal in sales unlike this gen.

You read that right. I want the PS5 to fail miserably like PS3. Why? Because its best for us consumers. Remember when PS3 failed? It was great for us:
- Free Multiplayer (No PS+ needed)
- More and better Exclusives (imo)
- 3 free PS+ games monthly
- More aggressive price cuts(How tf PS4 is still 299$ after 7 years!!!)

If Xbox 360 hadn't been that successful, we wouldn't have gotten all this. With PS4, Sony got cocky and now we need PS+ for MP, we gotten less 1st or 2nd party exclusives this gen , less monthly ps+ games and higher console pricing.

I want the XSX to succeed and I hope that MS puts pressure on Sony with XSX, XSS, Gamepass etc., so we, the consumers, benefit from this friendly competition.

I am still going to buy a PS5 digital edition, but I dont want Sony to have a 2x sales advantage this gen. If sony sells 60-70m PS5s this gen, you could call it a failure. If MS sells the same (XSX+XSS combined) I would call this a success for them. What do you think?

EDIT: What I mean with this thread title: For example Sony selling "only" 80m PS5s (fail in comparison to PS4) and MS selling 70m Xbox Series X/S (success compared to Xbone)
Not even in your sweetest dreams. Microsoft already fucked themselves up.

In my opinion Game pass promotes unfinished messy games since it needs constant flow of games .so I hope thats not the future whatso ever.

Games are not like movies . They take time
Not only that but a promise of an update coming to fix things or add things makes people think oh I'll stay subscribed for that update then. Promotes exactly what you mention.

Spoken like someone who did not go through the crash thanks to a bad Atari monopoly. Did not live through Nintendo treating gamers and developers like crap when they ruled the industry with an iron fist. People bitch about censorship now lol. The Sony seal of approval would be a thing if they drive out Microsoft to control content they don't like. Good luck getting digital refunds like steam in a Sony monopoly. Game prices lol after they raise up ecosystem fees and punish those they have a beef with. When Sony won by a 100 million the first thing out of thier mouths get a second job lol. So gtfo that competition is overrated.

If MS left it would open the market for some other competition to get in, and hopefully care for how many consoles they sell (or the gaming portion in gaming as a service).
Microsoft tried to get out guess what no one wanted into the console business. There is no magical company that is going to spend billions and years to enter a market that both Nintendo and Microsoft failed out of lol. Unless you think a crappy 99 dollar android device is competition lol. Google is the next to fail out.

in before thread gets closed. MS made a well rounded console, they have acquired new studios. Just need better games instead of mediocre ones.

So you want Japanese games to fail and suck like the PS360 era? No thank you. Japanese games are doing better now because of the PS4s success.

Yes, if you judge the entire corporation. Restrict it against Nintendo and MS if it makes it easier to see the point: competition does not mean that winners do not spank the losers. It is about winners spanking losers in a scenario that does. It prevent new competitors to enter the field and where winners cannot make incumbents’ life impossible/stop competition from occurring.

PlayStation was massively dominant during PS1, PS4 and particularly PS2 and never stopped delivering excellent games..... PS2 is often remembered as one of the best times in gaming.

Why? Because their dominance afforded them the power to get almost any game on their console, it became the one place for everything.... once PlayStation have that much dominance again, it will be so once more.

People moving to 360 actually fragmented the market and caused Xbox to start money-hatting games.... 3rd party exclusives really became an issue at that point. This continued to the 8th gen with Titanfall, Ryse, Tomb Raider and now they are doing it with Yakuza 7 (a series associated with PlayStation) is timed exclusive for XBSX........

Once everyone gets behind PlayStation it will be better for the industry.

Let me get it straight. I am a Playstation fan at Heart (had ps 1,2,3,4) +the OG Xbox and Xbox 360. But I dont think Sony can repeat its success Story next gen because of the current climate (covid) and higher price points and stiffer competiton from MS (If both consoles launch at 499$).

If Ms plan succeeds with the two consoles approach + gamepass strategy there is no way they will sell less than this gen.

It is good for us playstation gamers if sales for both companies are even (like ps360 era)! I just want Sony to go harder! I myself am not interested in a XSX because I can play MS games on my gaming PC. I'm sorry for the misleading thread title lol.

Imo we got the best consumer experience and games with Sonys back against the wall (PS360 gen). Why wouldnt a healthy competition not be good for us? If sony sees PS5 sales not having the same momentum as PS4 or XSX, we will get a price cut rather sooner than later. If XSX is the same Price as PS5, many gamers who dont care about exclusives will buy the more powerful console (like this gen PS4 vs. XBone). It will automatically put pressure on Sony to come out with more or better exclusive games, content etc.
Sony is already focused on coming out with better exclusives next generation

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
PS3 the fifth best selling home console ever released and PlayStation's biggest failure.

They will probably sell less...IMO

GamePass doesn't have anything hype in it and Halo is probably a year away and not looking good..... People buying a console at launch are not necessarily looking for value or to save money, they want in on hype and PlayStation is always hype.
