Just completed the Mini Modular Cafe Corner...such clever design and impressive detail for its size, even much more appreciated when you're building it...looking forward to building the rest of them =)

I've always been a major fan of the old Aqua zone sets (Aquanauts, Aquasharks, Stingrays, Aqua Raiders, and Hydronauts). I used to have more than this but these were the sets I couldn't part with and still own today (sorry for cellphone quality photo):

That Aquazone base is definitely one of the better of its kind. I love the conveyor belt mechanism in the back.

I know I am a little LTTP on this stuff, but I caved in and picked up the Tie Fighter and X-Wing sets.

Feels good man. Looks good on my tiny shelf.

Look at that boss knitted turtle. He is the shit.

That Imperial Shuttle is so badass. I need it. My wife wants a Sandcrawler. They're so expensive now. :(

I have an extra Tantive IV that I can take back for credit, I just wish I could get some of the older sets that I missed.

Got tired of sorting my stuff and decided to build a classic set. I cheated in a few places (using black bricks instead of blue) because I didnt feel like digging through the big bucket of unsorted stuff to find the one single missing piece, or I cheated by stacking three pieces together to make it the same size as one piece in the instructions. And I didn't build the little vehicles that go inside of it, but I still had the method of constructing the jail cells in my memory. I blind built them and it felt good.

And yes, I realize that one piece is missing from the top of that one jail cell, but it is on the top of the one that is open. I fixed that right after taking the pic. The two things I always remembered about the cells were the horror that would follow of trying to get the square flattop piece out of the bottom of the cell, and separating the 1x2 stacked pieces in the top.

Man, this week is going to be torture waiting for the Imperial Shuttle to get delivered.

Is the Shuttle going out of print anytime soon? I want it but not right away because it's so expensive. I don't want to regret missing out like I did with the UCS Star Destroyer...

I retrieved out of the garage a couple LEGO sets from my youth.

Tri-Star Voyager - Spaceship that separates into two modules. Two small clear red 1x1 smooth tiles broke, prolly because they were brittle from age. =(

From the $5.49 price tag, this 66-piece set came out to about $0.08/piece. Things haven't changed too much in about 30 years.

Space Supply Station - I remember loving this because it hit all the right points for me: land vehicles, air vehicles, and base structure. No broken pieces in this one!

I had some older sets (including the Beta-1 Command Base), but I'm not sure if I kept them. =/
Will have to do some more digging in the garage.

Those look to be in excellent condition, mine from the same era were pretty fucked. I'd slap my 8 year old self for what I did to them if I could

LegoGaf, I need your help. I'm wanting to make my foray into MOCin', but on a mini model scale, i.e.

What would be the best set to purchase allowing a reasonable amount of options and creativity? I'd be willing to spend up to 100AUD. I was thinking something along the lines of the Creator 5771 Hillside House.

Much thanks!

well this set gives you LOTS of little pieces to get started with,
but obviously mostly yellow ;)
the house I believe will have more plain bricks.

but generally I think the creator sets will give you the most non-exclusive pieces to work with.

and it really depends on what you want to build, if you have a good idea already just go to the lego store and get exclusively what you need ;)

I have never seen a large set like that at TRU. The only large sets i've ever seen at my TRU is the occasional Star Wars UCS, and only at Christmas.

Yeah, I didn't think so. I might go check the ones in my area just in case.
Probably going OOP this year. And it just spiked back to full MSRP on Amazon this weekend. Better jump soon.

The Shuttle is only 99.99 on TRU right now. With the B1G1half right now, would two of those be a good buy?

Bought and built 9392 (Technic Quad) yesterday. Now I'm nipping out at lunch to buy 9395 (Technic Pickup Truck) to build this evening. This addiction is getting expensive.

The Aquazone base was the first lego set I bought myself. With around 1,25 Euro pocket money a week and christmas, easter and birthday savings, I was so proud when I finally got it!
The price was around 80-90 Euro (or 160-180 DEUTSCHE MARK).

I love the robotic arms and the whole color sheme <3

I'm not 100% sure on this, so some of the more active members can chime in. Would Pick-a-Brick at the LEGO stores be an option? I'd have to imagine if they stock some of the smaller pieces that you could fit a ton of them into one of those cups.

I would think the mini modulars would be a huge help in making micro MOCs. As would the Minecraft set when it comes out.

In the UK at least Pick-A-Brick in store will be little help for micros if the London stores are anything to go by.

If I were you I would just bulk order a load of small parts from BrickLink to get the idea and then maybe buy particular colours once the design is finalised. It will cost more but you'll end up with a lot of bricks.

Mini modulars. Have lots of small pieces and some nice techniques that you can use for inspiration

Awesome!

@DennisK4 I've said it many times in this thread - microscale building is the best building! :) MOCpages.com has some of the most awe inspiring microscale cities you've ever seen. Definitely browse there when you get the chance!

Wait what?! TRU has it listed as 259, and the B1G1half off sale does not include SW sets

*edit: Think you mean the space shuttle. They are talking about the Imperial Shuttle from SW

I'm sure you guys are mixing up the Space Shuttle Expedition, which is the really nice Space Shuttle for $100, and the Imperial Shuttle, which is the giant set and retails for $260.

Space Police gaf reporting in.

Many memories when playing with the old Lego :)

Will be cheaper for me to get the Imperial Shuttle at local lego store with my VIP card I guess. Last I bought was the SSD and it was 399.99 at the store. Do I get 399 points or 400? Pretty sure tax is not included heh.

You'll get 399 points. Buy a minifig when you purchase. Amazon's sale last week was a great deal, with it being back up to $259, it's better to just go to the LEGO store and get points, but might want to wait a week, think someone said they're doing double points in March.

Yea it was marked down on Amazon for a while, so I waited as I was out of town and wanted to be home to receive the package. Get home yesterday and the price is jacked up after weeks of it being discounted almost 40 bucks, meh. Yea even with tax it will be cheaper for me to go to the Lego store and use my vip card than amazon now.

Wouldn't you only get $10 in VIP points? I'd pay $18 in tax in my state at the store. I bet it will come back down on Amazon at some point. You could set a camelcamelcamel price alert.

Thought it was $5 for every 100 points on the VIP card? With 400 points I would get $20 off, plus the Imp Shuttle will give me more points on the card then

What was the Imperial Shuttle price previously? Do you guys recommend I wait for a similar deal or jump on it ASAP?

Also, is there a site that lists when things are going out of print or at least after they go out of print? Basically it'd be cool if there was a LEGO Star Wars focused blog out there somewhere that was regularly updated.

Imperial Shuttle was $219 on Amazon for weeks now, and just spiked back up to MSRP of $259 this weekend.

Kicking myself for not jumping on the X Wing price on Amazon yesterday. It was 55 and now it is sold out. Anyone know of a place with a comparable price?

You legend, that's the exact set I've been trying to remember for the last week. I nostalgia'd.

Barnes and Noble. They were $54 regular on the website, but it is sold out on there now. Most of their stores have them in stock if you call around. It is $60 in store, but there are a few 20% coupons floating around. If you jump early, BN usually has very competitive Lego prices.

I don't recall it being much more than that when I bought it at the Lego Store about a year ago. Don't know if they still carry it, though.

It's ladies night with the random Minifigs I've picked up in the past couple days.

Awesome thanks

Picked up my TIE Fighter and X-Wing from there the other week. They don't carry the Y-Wing unfortunately.

Also, if you have kids, sign up for their Kid's Club program. For every $100 worth of kids books or toys (including Lego) you buy, you get $5 in giftcards. It is easy to get that high with Lego stuff. Even the Lego Architecture sets count for that. It is the best option for many sets if you don't have a Lego store anywhere nearby. They dont get all the sets, but they do usually get many good ones. Even if the store doesn't carry them, if you go in they can usually order them in. I need to order a Millenium Falcon whenever they get another good coupon out.

I must say - I'm VERY excited for March to hit. I'm grabbing the Grand Emporium on March 1st, and I'm contemplating Diagon Alley or Pet Shop, too. Normally, a Harry Potter set wouldn't interest me much, but the buildings look really great and offer some excellent pieces for future MOC's. Shuttle Expedition, though, also has my eye. The space theme is one of my favorites, and it's a really excellent looking set for the money. -_- Can't decide!
