Wow. If this is what I think it is, it's a simply brillant strategy.

Showing off the hardware tomorrow, along with with some pleasant Nintendo secrets regarding the actual system/controller, has the potential to completely overshadow everything on Monday and have the hype through the roof for Tuesday when Nintendo finally reveals the software line-up for Wii-U.

If they pull this off right, it will be talked about on GAF for decades to come.

Just realised *why*: Get the Wii U hardware unveil out of the way, and it frees up third parties to talk about Wii U products in *their* shows without stealing Nintendo's thunder.
Yep. I was wondering how they would get around this.

It is pretty brilliant. Make E3 all about Nintendo, all the time!

Well it avoids the awkward silence when they reveal the controller update everyone's already seen leaked.

But last year they spent 10 minutes at E3 talking about the 3DS pokemon app, which was already out... I guess they'll have a lot more to talk about this year though.

This addresses the concern about Ubisoft showing games at their conference. Show the hardware Sunday night. Have all attention on that Sunday leading into Monday. Keep the ball running with Ubisoft then lead into Nintendo's own conference on Tuesday. So no matter what Microsoft and Sony announces they get sandwiched between Nintendo coverage and hype and Nintendo still has their event on Wednesday as E3 comes to a close.

e3.nintendo.com updated with Nintendo Direct info. Pretty exciting to see all these events over the next couple of days.

Sunday - Nintendo Direct focusing on hardware
Monday - 3rd party press conferences with Wii U games
Tuesday - Press conference (first party software with probably some third party), website will probably be updated after conference with even more games/info, developer discussion with Katsuya Eguchi.
Wednesday - Software showcase

Yep! I just hope they pull it off. Something this drastic could also blow up in their face if handled incorrectly.

Could go from hype all the time to ... droning and dull ... very easily.

Yeah, this basically confirms that the conference is gonna be all about software. A WHOLE HOUR of software.

How the time is weighted is what's important, not that it's about software alone. For all we know, Nintendo could spend 20 minutes on a 360/PS3 port for some idiotic reason.

Agreed. If they announce tomorrow, for instance, that this system is on par graphically with current gen, some crazy calibrating method for the controller, and only supports one U-Pad at a time..... Then things could get ugly. But surely they know that and they are going to have some pleasant surprises coming forth tomorrow.

Side topic here, but I have a prediction; Nintendo will reintroduce vitality sensor/biometric feedback tomorrow, and it will be an accessory to the U-Pad controller. Just a gut-feeling, so don't hold me to it. :p

Yeah, the many possible downside keep lingering in the back of my head... something like this can very easy turn against Nintendo... I hope they learned from their WiiU reveal and make this worth it.
