Decent games in Halo tonight, surprisingly. Dominion's a ton of fun, however I feel like it's a crap shoot for winning if you're not without a full team.

Ended the night with some Rayman Origins. Picked it up for $20 at Walmart, and holy shit, what a beautiful and fun game.

So what do we think the long term plan is for Halo 4 and ranking? I don't mind the new system, I enjoy the immediacy of the leveling. I'm just worried that within a month or two there will be many people maxed out.

What good is that?

Here come the laughs and jokes at the "long term plan" part of my question

Do we even know anything about the ranking system?

By maxing out you mean the leveling system right? Because I don't see how rankings and levels will be tied to each other.

Sorry, yes I mean levels. I suppose I use the term rank since we don't have one.

Will there be a ranking system added? Seems like we will need it. I can't imagine Halo without some sort of ever changing or progressing level or rank system. As much as I hated Reach and their level system it at least didn't max out in a month.

I'm looking forward to Halo |OT36| Save Us Cyclone in which the MinkTank alt gets revenge on the Starwolf alt alt for getting him banned.
one day, starwolf will have a son, and then when his son goes through his douchey teenage years they'll say, "You're becoming more like your father."

Ey guys, anyone know when that Specializations Email will be sent out?

~Thanks, Henry. I knew it was around the end of the month, but didn't know if it was changed or not.
hitting level 50 in about 2 more games. Pretty stoked.

I watched the map pack video once more thinking perhaps I was being a little hard on it earlier.

Nope.

I honestly was confused at the beginning because I thought the initial shots of all three maps, were the same map. What happened to unique maps? Why is the color pallet in Halo 4 limited to brown and washed out grey?

I also am really concerned that 343 calls one of the maps 'small' and then proceeds to show nothing but vehicle battles (warthogs, ghosts, etc). That to me has never been what a small Halo map is. A small Halo map is: Chill Out, HeH, Lockout, Midship, The Pit, etc. why has Halo seemed to stray so far from what made it so good? Why is 343 ramming nothing but big team battle/dominion maps down our throats? Looking back at the playlist numbers for H2, H3, and Reach it has never been Big Team Battle leading amongst all of the hoppers.

Eh I am just annoyed with a lot of the decisions that have been made with Halo 4. I've spent a huge chunk of my life playing this game, and growing up with it. It's sad that the game came out less than a month ago and I stopped playing it weeks ago just out of lack of interest.

I come off abrasive with some of the things I say, no doubt. But it's just hard to not have passion for a franchise that I was so invested in.

Oh well 343 clearly has different ideas for Halo than I had hoped, so I guess good luck to them with what they decide to do. Fairly certain this will be my last Halo game that I take any interest in. Thanks Bungie for a fucking awesome run with Halo, you did good.

I'm right there with ya bud. Dev-bros.

So who was the dupe?

^ my same feelings on the game and map pack. But I will always have hope whenever a new Halo gets released, I'm sure of that.

I'm just going to wait it out until January. By then a title update and skill ranks will be released, if those two bomb then I'm done. Saddens me cause I bought my very first xbox because of halo.

I like Halo 4, Should i feel bad?

nah man itz cool...it's like your feelings and stuff

Had some great games of Pro tonight with Therms/Omlet. I know this game can be great with a few tweaks, it's just a matter of getting there, which I'm not very optimistic about. Having instant respawns in a pro gametype is just silly, Therms got a triple kill by respawning after a double kill, killing the guy that killed him, lol, shouldn't be possible.

It's exactly what Bungie did in the past. I'm not defending it at all, I'm just curious as to why everyone is suddenly surprised/angry about it when they've been subjected to it for the past 10 years.

Fun fact: all new playlist from Bungie were not including Armor Lock. 343 took over and started cramming armor lock back into everything because I don't know I guess they wanted to show off their AL changes and the fact that they added another achievement that required Armor Lock to exist in matchmaking.

I really wish they would've introduced a flashbang grenade into Halo 4. I think it would really help in clearing out bases, particularly in Dominion. I can't tell you how many times I've snuck into a base onto to be killed by a crouching rocket player or a camo'd player. Being able to blind others would be an interesting mechanic in Halo 4, as long as its executed better than the Flare from Halo 3. I still don't know what Bungie was thinking with that. There was no way NOT to blind yourself when your threw it, which was a strange decision.

I have a feeling Flare was just there because it was made and existed in campaign. They excised it from matchmaking fairly early on.

Does anyone feel like 343 isn't actually going to implement a lot of the easy changes that would make Halo MP a lot better, just because they are pretty much all the things that 343 brought to the table, i.e. instant respawning, randomised global ordnance, flinch?

It would be kinda like admitting they were wrong, which as we all know from the Squad Slayer debacle, they don't want to do.

Sure as shit didn't stop them from messing around with another developer's game. It would be kind of fucked up if they modified Reach as much as they did but treated their design decisions as sacrosanct.

This is MLG gametesting.

And people still think they need a community run playlist.. they don't actually discuss things with their community!

Wtf, I missed all the fun. :lol

Yeah, this. I could follow most, but Im not sure about this part or why they were banned.

Cuz u a bitch.

I said it prelaunch, prom nades should have been flash bangs, limit them to only one being carried, and just pick ups on maps, treat them as power weapons. Flash bangs would be great for people who camp with radar & PV. Sounds good in theory anyways, I'm sure it would dun goof some how in the execution.

Didn't you spend like $500+ on Halo 4 stuff.

Yup, See Below

I know I did... and I don't regret on bit of it.

LE Console, Warhead Wireless Halo 4 Headset and Halo 4 UNSC Controller.

Its 2 fold, I'm a collector and a fan of the series the game could of been grade A garb and i still wouldn't care how much i spent.

I think the total figures are near £800 now.

2 x Halo 4 LE
LE Console
Warhead Wireless Headset
UNSC Controller
Skins on Ebay
H4 XBL Gold for the Corbulo Emblem
LE Signed Awakening: The Art of Halo 4
LE Strategy Guide

I can understand where you're coming from. Only reason why I'm not giving up on the franchise too is because I kinda expected that 343i's first Halo game would be pretty... bad... multiplayer wise. Admittedly campaign was good, but even there they incorporated a little too many CoD elements.

I'm willing to stick to it until Halo 5, but if nothing is changed between now and then I'll just jump ship. As it stands right now, multiplayer just isn't fun.

Damnnnnn. Wish I had gotten the LE game in retrospect. I hate being stuck at 70 for a wek and a half.

I thought buying the war games pass unlocked specializations, too?

Those are just helmets, not specializations.

The less I care about trying to do well , the more fun I have with this game. I'm also trying to get acclimated to the LightRifle, it seems like it has some potential. Scoped in shots don't sound or feel powerful or accurate enough though.

In a way though, 343 have done me a massive favour. As I'm reaching further into my twenties it's a boon to me that Halo is no longer as addictive as crack like the original trilogy was. It's a slide in passion for the series that started with Reach, so it's not just 343. However their continuation of some of Reach's worst excesses just allows me to step back from Halo now and play it a few times a week instead of every day.

People heavily criticized Halo 3 in its era as uncompetitive, BR spread whining etc. Five years later Halo 4 makes Halo 3 look like a hardcore competitive shooter out of the box in comparison. Halo 3 had:

*Your military rank tied directly to how good you were at the game, incentivising self improvement and team play and contributed to Halo feeling like a sport.

*Half of MM's playlists were were ranked, a rank visual to everyone (so unconcerned for players feelings, like Dark Souls!), and were top of the MM list above social.

*A sniper that was difficult and rewarding to master. Its power was proportional to its difficulty of use, a concept lost in the age of the Binary Rifle and sprint Swording.

*Every player starting the game equal. Want camo? Earn it. Overshield? Learn its location, and, as you improve over the months, learn its respawn times. You don't deserve an overshield because you got a lucky triple using an Incineration Cannon which dropped from the heavens at your feet.

Hardcore game.

Like I said, I'm glad they de-personalised Halo into this fractured, identity confused, fiesta flavoured, uncompetitive milieu of contemporary shooter eclecticism. Gives me more time for more important things in life. And I do enjoy Halo 4. I love shooting its guns, I love the thruster pack and the fact I no longer have to spawn with an AR. But, like Reach, I enjoy it under a specific set of circumstances and, also like Reach, the game breaks down at the highest levels of play (AA abuse a primary culprit) and there is no incentive to play at a high level so I play silly shit. In Reach, it basically boiled down to playing Headhunter in Multi-team and trying to out-do my friend in how many kills we could manage in a single match. My playlist history in Halo 4 has been dominated after the first week by Regicide, another party gametype.

Sure as shit didn't stop them from messing around with another developer's game. It would be kind of fucked up if they modified Reach as much as they did but treated their design decisions as sacrosanct.

343 had so much confidence that they split Reach into 2 separate games, and seemingly allocated as few people as possible to the TU, and expected results were expected.

If the Reach TU had been global and actually backed by the entire might of the studio like previous Halo TUs, it would have been much better. The entire time it just felt like they were doing what they felt like they were obligated to for a cheap pop while looking forward to Halo 4.

I mean come on, people found out the TU NR was broken at Halofest, this was brought up and they admitted it was a problem, and no attempt was even made to alter it and it was sent into matchmaking-as is. They told everyone to leave feedback on Waypoint, but it was clear that what the TU was at that point was already set in stone. It just felt like lipservice.

The TU made Reach tolerable for a few more months for me, 343 didn't have to do a damn thing to it. Why are you constantly trying to shit on 343 & defend Bungie to your grave? Ugh
