Well at least they are doing this with the Rumble series of games and not the actually good Pokemon games.
My wallet is safe for now.

I've got a very good feeling this is only a "test" or preclude to a much larger Pokemon/NFC collaboration. My goodness if they release a Pokemon TCG rpg with NFC compatibility I'm going to run out of money 5 times over.

Even if they don't want a mainline pokemon RPG on Wii-U (though I wouldn't put it past them to see the potential NFC/ pokemon potential and finally make a mainline game for Wii-U) they could expand Pokemon Coleseum, or allow somehow for X/Y to be played on the gamepad and use NFC for training/ extras in that game.

After hearing smash is going to be crossplatform with 3DS/ Wii-U I wouldn't be suprised to see them do the same thing with the 3rd version of X/Y or the set of games following that. There is too much merchandising money to be made not to do it.

This is just the beginning, as my wallet gently weeps.

That really won't happen. That goes against everything Junichi Masuda has been saying about Pokémon being portable and not forcing kids to pay for stuff for the main games after the initial purchase so don't fret :)

There's a balance in all things. Sure, Masuda might have said something along these lines, but it's not that DLC can't be pro-customer. A worthwhile, longer event, for instance; or (temporarily) returning to an old region. There's so much potential in Pokémon when it comes to DLC -- I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for that.

Plus; who's forcing anyone? Content that should have been in the initial product (like something integral to the main story) may indeed be unethical to distribute as DLC in that they force the players to buy what should have been in the package they initially paid for. But unconnected, independent episodes? That only means extra options for the players.

If anything, it's hardly different from in-store events. Not everyone can attend them gratis or even attend them at all (because of them not happening in a specific location). DLC can be, likewise, an option that not everyone will want or be able to exploit.

It's paid DLC that he's against. Pokémon has been spearheading DLC for ages, and Black 2 & White 2 had true DLC in the form of Musicals and C-Gear skins which weren't in the game.

I know! Essentially, Pokémon has had DLC ever since Crystal. That said, he may be against paid DLC, but is he also against adding extra content (that goes beyond most of the events we've had so far) to an already released game? Because if they can do that for free, no objections here! :p

What I mean to say is that it'll be a bummer to not get grand DLC just because of a policy like that. There are things that simply can't be justified to be made during the development cycle of a game -- take remake levels of NSMB2 or old character stages from Fire Emblem, for example. DLC is a good way to make those happen, and having it be free is quite rare in this industry.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes the way these games look. They're so cute looking. I spent so much time playing Pokemon Rumble Blast that this looks incredible. Is this game going to have comparable content or will it have less due to it being a DD game?

And some information:

It also reveals various new bits of gameplay. In this game, you can attack via the GamePad's touch screen. There are also various items that you can find within the game. These items will do things such as make you big or heal. Some levels have gimmicks that you can control, and others that will damage you. Each area has a boss at the end, and has multiple levels. Timed battles also appear. You can use the figures in the game and raise them using coins obtained within the game. This makes them potentially stronger than the counterparts you capture in-game

You should be an editor. You have a way of cleaning up the scraps that get sent to you like no one else.

Reactions in order:

-Too much bloom in all of those figures! I can't see!

-It looks like there's some non-pokemon stage hazards flying around in the arenas this time. Did they do that before?

-Wow, those were some neatly animated cutscenes.

-This game looks incredibly glossy and messy.

-Multiplayer? Do they allow netplay?

-More stage hazards. I like the diversity.

I can't believe this game is coming so quickly. But I guess seeing as X and Y are coming around the corner, I guess there's a reason to get this out if it's only gens 1-5.

I'm a journalist, bud. It's what we do :p

Incidentally, I'm wondering if this game will be counted on charts for Famitsu/Media Create. Though it's a download only title, Pokémon Centers, and presumably other shops, are to sell download cards of the game

1)Does the figure need to stay on the controller?

2)How does that work in multiplayer or can you only have one toy at a time?

1. Nope. It just needs to be scanned

2. 4 players. One on the GamePad, three on Wiimotes. You collect toys normally in the game

I read on a site that's not to be named that;

- figures will be used in other games at a later date

No idea where that came from, but is it true? Because that would seriously up my incentive to buy these.

No, misunderstanding.

They can be used in other people's versions of this game only.

That was a quick misunderstanding I made because a certain person was so unbelievably vague in the translation he gave me :p

How was I supposed to know you'd take 'other games' to mean completely different games and not 'other versions of the same game'. :p I lbame your lack of sleep this week.

Ah I see. Still, I suppose it's something they would have no trouble including down the line with any future Pokémon WiiU titles. Hell, they could release a 3DS NFC attachment as well.

I suppose it depends on whether you think Nintendo would release a completely different set of NFC figures in a style other than this 'Rumble" one, or whether they're happy with this direction.

It will probably come eventually to the States. Even Conquest did.

Yes, but some things didn't, like the Wii Dungeon games. Though there is a sound reason for that; they were awful. I believe Pokémon Typing Adventure never made it to America either

The Wii U icon has been revealed for it. It's adorable

Phewey. I forgot about the Dungeon games on Wii. The Typing game never made sense for NA, and only just for the EU.

This could be gamechanging, I've learned to never underestimate pokemon and collectible pokemon shit. (I'm going to have so many of these).

Allowing you to transfer data via figure to future pokemon games on the Wii-U could be gigantic. Hell, forcing 3DS pokemon players to own a Wii-U to "train" their pokemon could be a huge sales spur as well, Poke'fans are crazy.
