The game currently has an anime adaption that just started airing airing(though the blu-ray preorders were pretty poor the last time I cheked so I'm surprised it did as well as it did) and the Vita is pretty much for Otaku at this point so that could have something to do with it.

Meh, it won't happen I think, but I wouldn't mind if they release that kind of stuff in the west. Maybe digitally since retail is even more impossible, I guess.

I'll buy stuff like that for my Vita no problem. Anything to add Vita's not-so-healthy roster of available games.

You mean the equivalent of this:

Can gamers expect a Wii U version this year? If not, when? Also, is there a possibility that a Vita version may appear?
“At the time we don’t plan to make PES for the Wii U or the PS Vita. This does not mean we never will. We are still exploring these exciting platforms to make a successful game that takes advantage of these platforms.”

I.e. the typical fobbing off of a question. Because that's the extent of what my google-fu can find and doesn't really imply PES14 for either platform.
No, it was a Japanese exec and might've been earlier in the year I think. It was in the PES2013 press run up, asking about ports and the answer was basically "next year".

I wonder more what the DS/PSP split was like before MH. Not that the PSP was doing anywhere near as poorly as the Vita is doing currently, but it was MH that really catapulted it into a true mainstream device.

2004+2005 software NDS/(NDS+PSP)=70%

ps: Previously it was supposed to mean 3DS/(3DS+PSV)

That's pretty surprising but given how a lot of the 3DS games this year has preformed and how the Vita hasn't really gotten too many big name games this year it makes sense.

Things will get worse, not better for Vita this year at software side.

Well it seems like it has found its niche which is quite cool I guess

And I'm probably the only happy person because of BioShock Infinite showing up :lol Hell yeah

Yes, as I already stated, a niche of otaku games and portings basically. Which is the next exclusive game that can sold over 100k on Vita? Just asking.

Yes, as I already stated, a niche of otaku games and portings basically.

Vita got Onepiece Musou 2 and will get the next Jump crossover game. Otaku can be defined narrowly or broadly. In the narrow sense they're older yet very dedicated anime fans who also play pervy anime games. You can expand from there to a more mainstream manga/anime audience and the Jump games I mentioned above are an attempt to just do that. I'm pretty sure that in the long run there will be more (and more interesting) Tales games also, as part of that expansion.

Late ports and spin offs which do better on Vita than on their original platform will help get original content also. Some games like Muramasa or Senran Kagura just sell better on Vita.

Also, if a port is released alongside the main version, it really is a multiplatform game and giving customers a choice of home and handheld version is a chance to bring existing PS gamers to Vita, not just from PSP but also PS3. PS3 software market is in good shape, sharing it with Vita can benefit it as a whole since Vita is a new platform and not saturated yet. There's a good chance that we'll see more and more cross platform games with PS3 after the relative success of Onepiece Musou 2. The Jump crossover game is the next test for that model.

Even if it won't be enough to take on 3DS, Vita might be able to use its niche to keep expanding its market.

2004+2005 software NDS/(NDS+PSP)=70%

ps: Previously it was supposed to mean 3DS/(3DS+PSV)
Ah, thanks, and it's about what I would have expected. DS significantly higher, but PSP had a bigger slice of the software pie than Vita vs 3DS.

Assuming they have nothing to announce for E3 or TGS, then it's flat out dead.
There will be new software announced, that much is guaranteed, whether it will make any significant impact though, remains to be seen. It needs either major software or something that becomes major right under our very nose a la Monster Hunter to completely turn its fortunes.

Wii U should go up during golden week, it is a Nintendo system afterall, they benefit more around the holidays, its also the reason why its even selling this much each week in the first place.

It's not automatic that third parties will take the risk to do something new and exclusive on Vita based on the sales of Muramasa and Senran Kagura. Otherwise, we would have had a new brand Resident Evil on Wii, and not on-rail shooters and portings. When they have to support PS360, next-gen, mobile/social gaming and 3DS, you can clearly see how Vita can well be left outside the business decisions.

Some multiplatform games sold well (One Piece), but other sold abysmally low (LBX W, AKB). Tales sold really bad, also. Of course Vita owners will always buy something, but if the installed base is growing so little, big projects will hardly arrive.

Assuming they have nothing to announce for E3 or TGS, then it's flat out dead.

Assuming also that 3DS won't have nothing announced for E3 or TGS, which is far more unlikely than having nothing announced for Vita.

TGS was the last point at which Sony deserved any kind of "wait for _____" benefit of the doubt. There's just no precedent in this industry for the kind of mid-generation shift in third-party support that some are hoping for.

Do you feel we're at the midpoint of the generation?

Edit: I guess you do think so, for the Vita. I disagree. Not that I think there'll be a major shift particularly. I just think it's still a little too early to write off the possibility of any 'decent' announcements at all.

You have to consider that if companies, as you said before, were incentivized to start developing on Vita given the sales of the last period (both hardware and software sales), the first games will be ready in late-2014 at the earliest, that is when Vita already have 3 years (unless they're porting / multi, of course).

What defines a 'decent' announcement for Vita (or Wii U)? Unless we start celebrations for any potential 100-200k seller.

So Dengeki also shows DB Heroes, so that's 2 against one for MC, why doesn't MC show DB Heroes? How bizarre.

It's #27 at Media Create, big deal.

Well, there's also the possibility they restart work on projects canceled due to the vita cratering previously... but that's far too much conjecture without any actual announcements to show for it.

Sure, but the announcements would probably be at E3 / TGS this year.

At the moment? Pretty much anything from a 'major' Japanese third party.

Excluding E3, were Japanese exclusive announcements are pretty unlikely, TGS is in September and that means that games announced there hardly will be in the market before early 2014. That means another year in the market without big releases.

For example? Which announcements do you consider likely to happen?

Sure. I still don't feel like we're currently in the midpoint of this handheld generation.

No idea, I didn't have anything particular in mind.

Aw man, just noticed that Soul Sacrifice has fallen off the charts. It was on it's way out anyway. Good bump this week for Vita.

PSP was having a quite good support in its first years in the market. In terms of announcements and actual releases, ti got already Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Ace Combat, Metal Gear Acid, Taiko no Tatsujin, Monster Hunter, Samurai Warriors, Harvest Moon, Itadaki Street, just to mention exclusive games from series that usually sells above 100k units.

Both Dengeki and Famitsu pinned Vita hardware at 17k. Maybe the actual amount is closer to that than 21k.

also:
Code:
| PSV | 17,524
| 3DS | 17,479

--

47(37) 3DS Fantasy Life 2,033 283,595 (+7%)

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice!

I hope these are actual legs and not just pre-GW bump :U

Something I noticed from the Dengeki Top 50:

Code:
( ) NDS Pokémon Black Version 2 1,089 1,595,335 (+5%)
( ) NDS Pokémon White Version 2 1,022 1,396,935 (+26%)
TOTAL: 2,992,270

Pokémon Black and White 2 to break 3 million in a few weeks it seems.

Wrong. The PSP still had much better 3rd party support before it even launched vs what Vita has received. With the hyperbole of how bad the PSP did being at such a level right now, I feel like by the time next gen rolls around people will be pretending Nintendo was almost bankrupted because of the 3DS.

Even though that's insignificant for the success of the system, I think it makes retailers happy to continue stocking Vitas.

I don't think there was any real question of completely dropping it from retailers in Japan when retailers have stocked the 360 all these years.

Only countable retail chains (mega electronics store that would stock anything) stock 360.
Many others dropped it like 2010-2011-ish.

We are already in May, the last known Japanese third-party release for Wii U will be launched in just 21 days. And no company has announced new titles yet.

Tomodachi Collection New Life is now at 15 in the 3DS eShop all time charts. It's only the third retail game after ACNL and NSMB2 to make the all time top 20 and on track to beat NSMB2 soon.

Yes What in the HELL is going on at NCL? No announcements, no anything. It's pretty baffling to be honest.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Right now there is one Japanese-developed game dated for Wii U- Pikmin 3 in July

Baffling doesn't even begin to describe Nintendo.

Sure. I still don't feel like we're currently in the midpoint of this handheld generation.

You're taking that word more literally than I intended, but any hypothetical surge in third-party support as a result of March/April sales wouldn't bear fruit until 2.5-3 years after Vita launched in Japan. I consider that far enough into the generation to be considered "midway through."
