Persona 4 Arena Sequel Announced [Japanese arcade-only update for now]

So the only ones who didn't abandon Shadow extermination was Mitsuru and Aigis.

SOME CONVICTION SEES HAS.

I always imagined most of the P3 cast would lead a normal life and be a Shadow Operative as like a thing on the side. When Mitsuru calls, they will be ready to roll. That kind of thing.

Definitely in this time around. I got into Persona after P4A was released and I don't really like being LTTP with fighting games. I did enjoy what I played of the original though.

So where is mid-schooler Ken Amada and Koromaru? Because I swear if they hold them two for another sequel, I'm gonna.....

Can't wait for the inevitable Dojima announcement.
Dojima was already suggested by ASW for the first version, but Atlus refused him.

Iguchiya joked he would have summoned Nanako instead, but Atlus would have chewed him out for saying that.

If we are to believe the "Persona 3 characters are all on the bottow row, so the 2 missing ones are coming from P4", my bet is on Margaret.

Did they say why? He's obviously a fan favorite.

New character 1: Junpei Iori
Persona: Trismegistus

Junpei now works as a coach for a schoolboy baseball team. His battle style is also closely connected to baseball.

A cheerful young man, Junpei is dressed in baseball clothes, so it is not surprising that he also has a special baseball gauge (that you can see on the screenshots). This gauge has a scoreboard that keeps track of the score accumulated by hitting the enemy with specific special moves. When the score is high enough, the character’s performance improves.

Swing that bat, whoosh, whoosh! As in the original game, Trismegistus has some fire attacks.

Though I didn’t examine this character in great detail, there is a super-move that gives you a whole bunch of points. After getting about 10 points, Junpei also started shining? He feels like a powerful close-ranged fighter with the emphasis on powerful single attacks. You can also use that back to strike back various projectiles shot at you!

A button normals: bare-handed attacks. The reach is pretty short? Ah, you can also do a dive kick similar to Narukami’s in the air!
B button normals: attacks with the bat. Have the best reach in Junpei’s arsenal.
C button normals: Trismegistus attacks by shooting fire.
D button normals: Trismegistus rushes forward.

Special move 1: Junpei swings at the enemy with a bat. This is the special at the end of the AAAA combo.
Special move 2: Junpei slides forward! Hits low and low-profiles many moves. It also feels like you can follow it up after a dash… (doesn’t remember clearly)
Special move 3: Junpei assumes the bunting pose. It has a hitbox, since I was able to reflect the enemy projectile with this.
Special move 4: Junpei strikes a pose, as Trismegistus falls down on the enemy. The distance depends on the button pressed.
SP Skill 1: A fiery swing full of excitement! You can also hold down the button.
R-Action: Charge the power and swing with the bat! You can hold it for quite a while, too.

There was a lot of other stuff, but I couldn’t check it out… Sorry!

Junpei strikes the “Safe!” pose, and the Persona falls on the enemy. The opponent is certainly going to be surprised by this.

The sliding that every baseball fan loves so much! Junpei is shining, but is that because it’s the victory pose?..

It's about as realistic as most people expecting this to be a small DLC add-on.

I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that it's a sequel considering it's not confirmed. Chances are really high that it is.

Seriously, how long they gonna milk Persona 4 before giving us P5 .

I know it's a combat game but come on -_-

Whether it's a "sequel" or not doesn't mean that it's not going to end up as a full retail game (if a home version is developed) and not a small DLC expansion regardless.

Huh, I didn't notice that (probably because of Labrys/Shadow Labrys being on the bottom row). Well that gives some hope for Marie and Adachi still.

True but I think given the situation people speculating, despite the outrageousness, is normal.

Now that is quite interesting. Hm.

If the game is going to acknowledge Golden then Marie should appear in some capacity.

She has a persona, too, so yeah, that's a viable roster guess.

OMG, I'm so happy to see Yukari and Junpei again, I was so annoyed and baffled why they weren't in the original P4A.

Hopefully, Ken, Koro, Shinji and
the male and female MC's as bonus
will be in, too.

I haven't gotten the original yet, but if this is a sequel and not P4A: Golden or DLC, I'll have to pick it up soon.

I don't think Marie does.

If you are talking about the persona you see in P4G's credit behind her portrait, that's the persona you unlock by max out her S.link

But on the other hand Liz got Thanatos, she didn't have a real Persona either, so I guess in the end it's fair to assume Marie will.

What weapon will she use though.......

Yeah, that's what I meant. They can totally make that work.

Heh.

How long does this occur after P3? 3 years? OMG does that mean we might see a pubescent Ken? Oh God what if he's hawt? Cue the fanart and shipping.

Assuming 2 more characters, Marie and Makoto would have to be locks? And than whoever's the boss can be another one.

Were any more Akihiko changes talked about over the night? Woke up not too long, wanna know if there's any more details.

Also, are there any details on how Junpei's baseball mechanic works?

There's only two slots. If we're following the logic that one will be from P3 and the other P4, I'm gonna say P3's is Makoto, while P4's is either Marie, Margaret, or alternatively an original boss character.

I'd honestly rather have Ken make it in than Marie. Such a shit character.

Well, Marie can generate that waifu $$$. Ken can't.

Real toss-up!

Yup:

Junpei Iori is a power-type character with a variety of attacks with his bat. The bat has long reach, so works best with just a bit of distance between Junpei and the opponent. His unique system is tied into the rules of baseball. When Junpei connects with a bat attack, a runner advances, possibly scoring a run, which gives a buff to certain moves after scoring 10 runs. The improvements to his attacks are substantial, so finding mix-ups and combos to efficiently advance runners is a part of the character’s charm.

AMERIKAJIN ‏@jiyunaJP 15m
Junpei's Baseball Gauge- Whiffing bat normals = strike lolll. Getting hit = out. 3 outs and the runners on base disappear. #p4u

AMERIKAJIN ‏@jiyunaJP 13m
Junpei got up to 19 runs. After 10 he started glowing, dunno if that was a super or just from the runs. Dunno what effect Balls has. #p4u

AMERIKAJIN ‏@jiyunaJP 19s
Junpei's Bat Super can hit HOMERUN! Does 2100 dmg and gives 3 runs...I think it's spacing related. Need to hit the bat's sweet spot. #p4u

AMERIKAJIN ‏@jiyunaJP 28s
Junpei glowing again after 10 runs, that seems to be it. And his win pose is identical to his corner P3 disco point win pose haha. #p4u

AMERIKAJIN ‏@jiyunaJP 7s
Junpei's runs as well as his glowing mode carry over between rounds. He's at 31 right now. Aigis has air-rush super like Guile in MVC2 #P4U
Quite an interesting mechanic here.

So two more P4 characters yet to be revealed? If so, give us Marie and Adachi xO.

Glad to hear that Junpei is in. I may not care for yukari, but her playstyle may be interesting.

If Junpei gets his own story mode finally, I wanna know if
he's still with Chidori, is it canon that she survived?
I MUST KNOW ATLUS!

And Yukari getting her own mode will be awesome. Finally seeing how she has moved on since P3 Answer's ending. Since she seemed to be the "canon" girlfriend that will be interesting. I bet she's still single
