@Yosp: Sony won't ban you for connecting before launch

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
It's actually extremely difficult for big companies to have a consistent PR when people are constantly going up for interviews.

It sounds easy on paper, but when you have a thousand tentacles, things start to slip. What amazes me is the consistency and speed of which the responses have been. It's unlike what I've seen at any other point. Of course, social media is probably the primary cause of the speed, but it doesn't explain the consistency... if anything, social media would make that worse :)

I think for the most part Sony has been able to just be reactionary and it doesn't seem like they've had a difficult time of it. MS has made it extremely easy for them.

Can't loan games to friends? Easy release a Playstation video showing you can loan games to friends.

Ban a console for a retailer mistake? Easy release a statement saying "Nope we won't do that."

Full disclosure I'm getting a PS4 and since the very minute MS introduced their draconian plan for the future I crossed them off my list. Doesn't matter to me that they 180'd those policies. Albert somewhat confirmed what I always thought, they might come back. For Sony it's easy to reiterate again that we aren't doing this and didn't have plans to. Win.

It's been easy for Sony. But they are doing a really good job kicking MS after every single mistake they make, just like they should.

This would be more effective if the dude was still there. However, it's still awesome nonetheless.

I'd be pretty pissed if I bought a $500 console and got banned because it was sent early. Saying that however, and I'm not trying to justify it, it's not exactly the first time where MS has banned someone for having a product before release day - whether legitimately or not. When you start uploading previously unreleased pics of the dashboard and start commenting on features that are likely covered by a NDA (in regards to journalists who have been shown the console early), then you're just playing with fire.

I could see MS leaving this guy's Xbox banned until release.

Some really dumb people at MS ruining their image, all that hard work over years to build a reputation for gamers undone by some fool.

sadly it was when he started to upload stuff and tweet about it.

copyright stuff.

but nobody asked yosp that and it was a cheap and lazy chance for some pr again for sony.

This shouldn't be applauded. It's just common fucking sense. I don't understand why Xbox keep giving themselves all these self-inflicted wounds.

Petter than putting your dick out in the wind and be surprised as your piss splashes all over yourself.

Some people pay money to be spanked and dominated, they probably like being banned as well.

Major nelson apparently wants to talk to that guy who got banned. I smell an unbanning

@Moonlightswami Love to know more about what happened w/ your console. Can you follow and DM me and I'll get this sorted out? Thanks.
Yeah just like Stinkles helped the guy whose console got banned for playing Halo 4 early. I'll believe it when I see it.

A tweet that just says "no" in response just doesn't elicit this kind of reaction from me. The surrounding hoopla is what I find silly and petty.
Perhaps. But it's also silly to get upset over it and harp on about it in every thread. This is a gaming forum, and console wars have been eternal. If this "silly" stuff raises your blood pressure to read, you're reading the wrong forums.

Really though, I agree it's not a big deal on its own merit. It only stands out in stark contrast to Microsoft's shit handling of everything Xbox. Just like how it was such a big deal that Sony allow us to use PS4 game discs the same way we have since the PS1. Microsoft's completely bonkers way of doing shit makes the ordinary shit Sony do seem extraordinary.

Sony will be in for a shock if a competent competitor ever shows up again in the console market. This is just too easy for them.

Well, this doesn't really say what people really want to know. The guy whose Xbone got banned had it before it was released anywhere. This guy on Twitter is asking about using it in Europe before the 29th, which is after the 15th, when it releases in the States. As a non-region locked system, it's perfectly legitimate to buy the US version and play it in Europe between the 15th and 29th.

Think this is just a snipe for positive PR and Sony probably don't want to answer the more pertinent question: if I go online before the PS4 is released anywhere, will I get banned?

The worst they should do is put an online suspension until midnight release day, just so they can plug information leaks that could generate bad PR pre-release if the network isn't completely smooth yet.

Before everybody starts celebrating, technically @Yosp reply was to a question about Europe's street date of the 29th.

A more pertinent question would be "If I've got a Ps4 before the US street date, would I be banned?".

Pandaman

Everything is moe to me
To be fair, Sony can't really ban people from playing early since they are sending out systems early to the Taco Bell winners.

Still, I'm not supporting MS's move in this case and they probably need to be called out on it.
microsoft gave out xbones at minecon.

The beauty of these two launches is that Sony just waits for MS to do something stupid and takes the opposite side. It doesn't make Sony the better then MS, just a hell of a lot smarter.

The 15th would have definitely been a better question to answer if it was asked. I don't think anyone expects any bans after Sony doing nothing with early Vita releases.

Very childish.

Answering a yes/no question on twitter is very childish.

That's where we're at, folks.

Jesus, every time MS fucks up, Sony's there with the counter attack.

It's not even anything remotely resembling a counter-attack. It's the simple application of fucking common sense and folks make a big deal out of it because there's such a damn scarcity of it in the competition it's almost embarrassing to watch.

I really hope it gets sorted out. At this point they can't afford banning the few customers they still have and I feel sorry for that guy.

"This random person who bought our console is doing a WAY better job at explaining and promoting our console than we are, better ban this guy immediately"

Made me Lol at work in the office when it was silent, got some funny looks :-D

I didn't know this guy was supposed to care about an NDA that he never read and signed.

If MS came out and said "we banned this guy for posting videos on youtube", Sony would come out tomorrow on Twitter announcing their new love of youtube videos. It's fish in a barrel, free PR. MS' is just toxic at the moment.

That's what i'm loving though.
That Sony is smart enough to use MS blunder's. Sony did have to do much the leading up to next gen besides go....If MS is doing that yeah we won't. Hopefully MS starts to get the message because thus far sony is glowing with easy praise.

Most of the people at the top aren't the same anymore anyway, or have moved around in the process.

Spencer => Yoshida
Kutaragi => House
Reeves => Ryan

And they've managed to stop Tretton from saying stupid things this time.

Shouldn't it be:

Kutaragi => Kaz ?

or to be more accurate:

Kutaragi => Howard => Kaz

Was everyone at Sony put into some PR training boot camp? The change from the PS3 era is... just so insanely huge... so consistent. Everyone is on the same page. Everyone seems to have a similarly shit-eating grin sense of humour. Everyone understands who their consumer is and what to say to them. Everyone knows exactly what PS4 is for.

They are playing it cool and really benefiting from Microsoft's mistakes. This is all really just window dressing because come launch and then on out that's when things really start to matter. If Microsoft can roll out the XBox One with little hiccups and the PS4 is a mess or it doesn't work like we thought or things are not ready nobody will even care about this. Of course if the XBox One is a disaster at launch I'm not sure how they will recover.
