Hillary Clinton Gets One More Shot to Take Down Sanders
A hastily scheduled town-hall-style event, announced Wednesday by CNN and scheduled to take place just one week before the Iowa caucuses, could be a saving grace for Hillary Clinton, whose presidential campaign has faced an unexpectedly formidable challenge from Democratic rival Bernie Sanders.

The prime-time gathering will air Monday at nine P.M., a huge change from the three debates that the Democratic National Committee scheduled on inconvenient weekend nights. The odd scheduling and limited number of debates provoked criticism from Sanders and fellow candidate Martin O’Malley for giving them inadequate time to make their case to the American public, especially in comparison to the numerous Republican debates that have drawn record-breaking numbers of viewers. Clinton largely abstained from weighing in on the call for more Democratic debates, prompting accusations that D.N.C. chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was strategically scheduling the debates to give Clinton the best possible chance of coasting to the nomination. (A town-hall event—which is technically not a debate, since the candidates do not have to address each other—does not need to be sanctioned by the D.N.C.)

I have to wonder if her campaign staff asked for this and if so, what does she plan to bring to the event that she believes will let her bury Sanders?

Bernie Sanders himself.
The moment Sanders said he was a socialist and he would raise taxes on the middle class he buried any chances of himself winning. To say nothing of him idiotically mentioning Planned Parenthood for no discernible reason

So they don't have to address each other? I suppose they might anyway.

I'll be watching. Iowa is so close now.

What an odd statement.

So, looking beyond the obvious Bernie versus Hillary astroturfing that's bound to pop up in this thread, like all other threads, is this in direct violation of the DNC's ground rules for debates?

I thought they couldn't have any debates that weren't sanctioned by the DNC.

A town hall technically isn't a debate.

This is not a debate. lol wink wink

Why does a clear front-runner need a saving grace? Especially since she's been dominating the debates in public opinion.

Debates should favor the under dogs

I actually don't disagree with either of these posts, I just wanted to be clear on what Tamanon found odd about that sentence. Content, phrasing, whatever.

Makes it sound like CNN is running Defense for Hillary and is wanting to give her a chance to fight back.

I don't doubt it in the least, lol.

Call it what you want as long as you get the dems exposure. Weather or not the DNC wanna coast Hillary into the nomination, shes still gotta contend with Trump and his crazy ass peers.

Because the saving grace debate is more interesting to promote than the clear frontrunner wins another debate, debate.

They've been okay with additional town halls/forums from the start

The debates itself, right. But the concept should favor the under dogs who need exposure vs a media machine like Hillary.

It favors Hillary simply because she has won every debate to date

You are right though -- absent any other context -- debates are usually called for by the person trailing

I don't even know why Clinton supporters bother posting, they're all convinced she's the shoe-in, what's the point?

I didn't say she is a shoe-in, I said she won the previous debates which is supported by nearly all post-debate analysis and polling. We just had a thread arguing over this point though

If anyone thought she was a shoe in, they would not be scheduling this. So my point is in fact the opposite. Because she is not a shoe in, she wants this debate because debating is where she has shined

Given that this is a townhall event and not a proper debate, it might not generate as much interest. I doubt it will sway things one way or another unless there's some serious bombs dropped from one of the campaigns.

Both O'Malley and Hillary are probably going in hard about Bernie's comment about the PP and HRC.

Only a few debates are scheduled for a race with only two real candidates - "This is a conspiracy to sink Sanders!"

Additional debate is scheduled - "This is a conspiracy to sink Sanders!"

Never change, Internet.

Are there any legit post debate polls for the last one?

As a discussion between members of this forum, I really don't see how she "won" the last one. She looked terrible on the corporate donor thing again, and generally spoke worse than usual whilst dodging questions. Do you honestly think she gave better answers and performed better?

Thankfully this is a townhall debate instead of a 100% moderator controlled one. Bernie will look good (meaning not a socialist monster who will destroy the American dream) regardless of how well Hillary does.

Wasn't that supposed to be Finnish?

Good, I'm glad there's going to be another debate, it was criminal how few there were compared to the republican side, even if there are far less candidates.

I'm really, REALLY hoping Bernie gets a chance to clear up his PP/HRC comments, or else he'll take a lot of shit from Hillary and O'Malley, and he'll deserve every bit of it.

Don't make me hate you, Bernie.
