Los Angeles, CA, December 6, 2011 - G4’s “X-Play,” the most watched video game series on television, announces the nominees for the ninth annual “X-Play Best of 2011 Awards” as selected by G4’s team of gaming experts. In what will be remembered as one of the biggest years to date for the video game industry, the onslaught of shooters, sequels and sci-fi epics has lead to the culmination of 25 award categories including Best Shooter, Best Writing, and Best Animation. In a special one-hour show, “X-Play” will take fans through each category to reveal the champions, ultimately revealing the winner of the highly coveted Game of the Year award. In addition, “X-Play” will announce the winner of G4tv.com’s Videogame Deathmatch where the fans choose their favorite game of 2011. The battle began with 32 contenders and now is down to only two fan favorites: Assassin’s Creed: Revelations vs. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Don’t miss the hour-long year-in-gaming celebration when hosts Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb and Blair Herter present "X-Play Best of 2011 Awards" premiering Wednesday, December 14, at 6:00PM ET/PT, only on G4.

“We're still seeing great shooters with endless ways to play and epic RPGs with hundreds of hours of content, but what we are really excited to see is the number of genres being re-embraced by gamers,” said Morgan Webb, host of “X-Play.” “This year we have some notable platformers that truly provide fun for all ages, as well as some puzzle games that really challenge the mind. No matter what kind of gamer you are, 2011 was your year.”

“While these lists have always highlighted quality, what is notable for 2011 is the variety,” said Adam Sessler, host of “X-Play.” “Even in an era of sequels, there is still something very fresh in videogames.”

“2011 really did bring an embarrassment of gaming riches. Familiar roads were traveled once again while exciting new ones were paved into our gaming brains,” said Blair Herter, host of X-Play. “Just when we thought we'd seen it all, we were shown that we hadn't...and being wrong has never been so satisfying.”

Game of the Year
Batman: Arkham City
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Gears of War 3
L.A. Noire
Portal 2
Saints Row: The Third
Super Mario 3D Land

Wow, what a bad list. WTF is L.A. Noire and Saints Row doing in there? Where is Uncharted 3? Looks like a publisher wrote this crappy list.

Even if you dislike Skyward Sword, can you really argue that L.A. Noire deserves to be on a best-of list before it does?

Of course, G4 is irrelevant and continues to be so.

The Action/Adventure category is fucked up anyway. Who actually considers the likes of Mario and Rayman and even L.A. Noire to be in that genre?

What's weird is that Zelda is likely a better example of an Action/Adventure game than anything in the category, with the exception of Arkham City.

But that's just one example. The nominees are messed up across the board and other categories look completely "off" as well. And yeah, I'll echo that L.A. Noire belongs nowhere near a "best of the year" nomination list, unless it involves the face-capturing technology.

They've stolen Giant Bomb's role as the honorer of Nolan North performances. Bastards!

If Space Core doesn't win a crime will have been committed.

I started shaking my head when I saw Minecraft in the Most Original Game category.

Some of the other lists have awkward choices too. L.A. Noire as a Game of the Year contender? Are you kidding?

Anyone notice this in the OP?

TIn addition, “X-Play” will announce the winner of G4tv.com’s Videogame Deathmatch where the fans choose their favorite game of 2011. Also wow congrats at TitS

Edit: Wait, this list makes no fucking sense of at all. TitS is in the best RPG category, but is missing in the best handheld game category.

If there could be only one Nintendo game in the GOTY category I'd probably choose Zelda over Mario 3D.

Also, Zelda not being in the "best motion controls" category is just wrong, regardless of the mostly-positive-but-still-mixed opinions. I mean, Just Dance 3, really?

They need a category for 'most hyped game that failed to deliver'

Well they apparently thought LA Noire was GOTY material, so they wouldn't nominate the correct choice anyway.

Huh?

I guess being the best RPG on a portable doesn't mean shit compared to portable games...? :<

Categories never make sense :/ Though, nice for the TitS recognition anyway.

Also, Revelations for fan favorite? Kind of surprising, though I haven't played it (...or Skyward Sword) so, hell, who knows.

Pokemon Black/White isn't in the RPG one but is for the portable so ... there's probably some logic somewhere to this.
