Well I've already said Animal Crossing is on for 1.5m so it's not totally out of the question... the only thing is that most of the "traditional" games have struggled so far compared to Nintendogs, Brain Training and so on.

I really wanna know what "amazing" means, it must be more than 150k surely, but just how much more?

what was his comment for Animal Crossing ??

Well we had 250k in first two days (prob something like 200k day 1, 50k day 2) and something like 350k in the first 5 (depending on who you read).

So MK looks like being at least on par, any more than 200k on day 1 would be enormous, don't forget that as I said earlier in the thread Animal Crossing has had the biggest first week for a non-Pokemon Nintendo game since 2000, so better than any GC game and any other GBA game. And it looks like MK will do even better!!

So 200k is a bit less.

200k is less than what?

These are first week sales, so first 2-3 days generally, and Mario Kart games have enormous legs:

I guess the closest in terms of release week was Mario Kart 64 which did 2.24m in 1996 after some huge sales first 3-4 weeks and very long legs (still sold well into 2000).

I'd predict over 350k for MK, don't write off Mushi yet either. All these titles released around now will get quite a boost over the next few weeks, so Mushi and Slime might end up doing very well in the end.

I don't think we'll have to wait a few weeks, it'll get a boost on Saturday and Sunday like all Nintendo platform titles.

I forget to write Sinobi's comment about X360

he says only around 20% of the shippment have been resevered (# of pre-order / total of shippment = 0.2)
while DOA4 has been delayed
sales of X360 in Japan will be started slowly and the situation is not good

For 1 day? After _that_ many copies of animal crossing had been sold not long ago? People can only buy so many games at a time, you know :)

It's great, but not amazing, will prob be around 250-300k for the week then.

You have to remember that this was released on a thursday. In Japan, thursdays are officially non-easter days. So, the sales will spike up to 350k once the friday data comes in.

Sorry bud, sales are Sunday through the next Saturday. So Mario Kart just gets 3 days of sales. Also you are overestimating. The most I expect to see is 260k. With Mushiking and Animal Crossing around it selling well that looks tremendous. As the DS has a smaller userbase than the PS2 and will probably beat it out in software sales this month.

If you're going to try and correct someone I suggest you know what you're talking about. There's a reason this thread is titled "Japan charts: Media Create 28 Nov - 4 Dec" (Monday-Sunday).

100k for a game that cost 20 million? BOMBA, YES!! Die Sega, you fuckers.
That means for every copy of the game sold so far, $200 was spent on development. This game has a long way to go if it is to break even.

Weird I always thought that the weeks were from Sunday to Saturday. Maybe that is just in America.

I dunno. My guess is that in JPN the DS is better percieved as an "upgrade" to the GBA as its backwards compatable. Not sure that is as easily understood in America.

$99. Japanese and Europeans generally don't abide by the "sweet spot" pricing like americans do. You want the DS to replace the GBA, drop its price to $99.

The thing is.... Nintendo knows this. However I guarantee they saw much higher profit margins off of those ~800K GBAs sold than they did off of those ~400K DSes. My guess is DS will be $99 by next summer at the latest.

Mario Kart DS - amazing!
Rogue Galaxy - 150k sold on first day (300k shippment)
Ryu ga Gotoku - no problem for 100k in one week
Sengoku Musou PSP - oh no
Metal Gear Ac!d 2 - oh no
Mushiking DS - oh no

Damn it! I want numbers, not descriptions! And looks like poor Mushiking bombed because of Mario Kart :(.

I say a redesign DS with a $99 price tag(doubt they'll launch DS SP at this price though) with Pokemon Pearl as the game launching with the redesign will pretty much confirmed a GBA->DS transition

Random question, just have to know. How much did Kingdom Hearts sell in Japan?

KH, if I remember correctly, sold 800K and the Final Mix version sold 350K. They're probably much higher now thanks to re-releases.

If you look at Nintendo's recent pricing strategies, I doubt that the redesigned DS will go for $99. More likely they will introduce DS SP at a higher price, and drop the DS old model to $99. As for Pokemon launching with the redesign, that would be pretty killer.

Exactly. The 99.99 pricepoint is the ideal consumer value. Once the DS hits this, it'll dominate. I think this is because at 149.99 it wasn't regarded that much since it didn't have many games and you could get any of the current gen systems for that much. Now that it's 129.99 it's easier to swallow, but it's still not low enough for the soccer moms and stuff. First month of 99.99 DSes at retail Nintendo should sell a ridiculous amount. Hopefully they'll time it with Pokemon P/D.
