:lol

The battle is already over in Japan, time for Nintendo to fight back in europe and America.

I've been saying this for years now, Kyoto is truly fighting back,[I wish lethargic gamer was around to see this] The Rev is already in the bag in Japan, the only thing left to do now is convincing insecure European and American grown men to join the Revolution.

If Nintendo can release 3 games for the Revolution in a relatively short window, I think there will be a reemergence of interest for the upcoming Nintendo console:

1.) Mario
2.) Super Smash Brothers
3.) A first-person shooter that doesn't necessarily have to "beat" Halo in terms of sheer quality, but can offer an exciting experience that can only be executed through their controller's unique functionality.

I'm sure that will be very important in Japan.

It would be hilarious indeed if Nintendo pulled off that sort of dealie at the next E3.

"Portable wars are over, competition failed to catch up" or something :lol

I seem to remember posters being banned for that prophetic phrase in the past. I'm not wanting you to be banned, but I don't think the others should have been banned either.

Pfft, obviously what Nintendo need for the Rev. is the logical followup for Nintendogs, a game that combines the pet raising simulation gameplay with the strategic RTS gameplay of Black and White, ladies and gentlemen, I give you:

NINTENGODS!!!!

raise adorable little deities that grow up into towering elemental Gods that battle each other for the faith of humanity, all the while manipulating them with the Revmote!!!

Nintendo nearly always releases a big game around the same time every year in the lead up to xmas. I've been comparing Animal Crossing to some of these (cause I'm sad) and it looks to be on track with most of them:

Smash Bros Melee 1.33m
Zelda: Ocarina 1.46m
Donkey Kong Country 3 1.76m

Comparing to DKC3, I can see Animal Crossing tracking a little less since games don't have the legs they had in those days, but i do think 1m around early Jan and 1.4 - 1.5m total is very reachable, which makes Animal Crossing one of Nintendo's biggest games around at the moment in Japan (arguably only second to Pokemon).

Impressive indeed!!

ioi,

I'm familiar with the site which you referenced, and it is useful for getting a quick idea of how a game performed - but I'm not sure what source they use for their numbers, and their totals always track significantly higher than either Famitsu or Media-Create, which are widely considered to be the two most accurate reporting sources. That's why I prefer to stick with either Famitsu or Media-Create. The numbers from the site you referenced are almost always higher - and often they are quite significantly overstated (by 20% or more sometimes).

I think these numbers are actually about as accurate as you can get and the weekly numbers always tie in well with reported shipment numbers from manufacturers.

I'm just saying that they always seem to give an inflated picture of the sell-through numbers.

Just for one example, Media-Create has Super Mario 64 DS at 737,164 through June 5/05, whereas that site has it at 854,500 at that date. Likewise, Famitsu has it at 783,263 through Nov 27/05, but again that site has it at 933,500 at that date. That is just one example, but if you go through game-by-game, that same pattern exists for just about every title on that site. I don't know, maybe their numbers are more accurate than Famitsu or Media-Create, or maybe that site is trying to report shipped numbers instead of sell-through numbers. But afaik, Famitsu and Media-Create have the highest percentage of retailers tracked by their reporting methods, and are considered to have the most accurate totals as a result.

I found these at Gamefront - have no bloody idea about their accuracy.

Software Trend-Charts aus Japan

12.12.05 - Hier sind einige Trend-Charts japanischer Großhändler vom letzten Wochenende. Endgültige Chart-Positionen und Verkaufszahlen folgen in einigen Tagen.

1. Rogue Galaxy (PS2, Sony)
2. Ryuu ga Gotoku (PS2, Sega)
3. Mario Kart DS (NDS, Nintendo)
4. Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360, Namco)
5. Momotarou Densetsu 15 (PS2, Hudson)

Considering that PSP releases like Geki Sangoku Musou and MGA2 flopped, I expect much lower PSP sales this week - 50k.

As I predicted, it looks like X360 didn't really flop - but it's hard to say without solid numbers.

PSP software sales have no bearing on how well the PSP sales.

Frankly, most Japanese people aren't using the PSP as a gaming machine.

Word on the street is that the 360 did somewhere around 40K it's first day, but the source isn't exactly solid.

My god, it looks like that rumour was right...

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.

Hmmmm....well those charts do not fit in with what we've been told at all... Mario Kart DS would have only sold about 100k if that's the case...

Are they really that big?

The power supply, that is.

Take a Volkswagen Eurovan. Double that.

Then take a 70 inch Samsung Plasma screen TV. Divide the original number by 800.

Add 3 original Xboxes to the equation. Subtract 4.

And there ya go.

But in reality, yes, it's pretty huge. I've never seen anything like that with a game console.

Yeah, they are (Wochenende = weekend), but it's still a bit surprising as Nintendo products tend to sell better on weekend ^^

Well it doesn't matter what it is, all the games were released on the same day.

First day sales were reported as:

Mario Kart 160k
Rogue Galaxy 150k
Ryuu ga Gotoku- nothing given but "will do around 100k for the week"

Now as you say, Nintendo games see a boost over the weekend, so Mario Kart dropping below Ryuu is odd. I suspect that these charts are a bit dodge, we know RR6 did around 35k so no way is it 4th, even if we are just talking about the weekend... will have to wait for actual numbers. I'm suprised we haven't had any more figures for MK yet though... maybe it hasn't sold that well.
