After playing the demo a half dozen times, I have to say that this is the best SP demo a studio has put out this generation. Good length, great action, move/3d support, and most importantly it makes me want more Killzone. Good job GG.

Only played it once.. but I have the exact same feeling.. Just a week ago I had no desire to pick up another FPS game. Blops on PS3 spoiled the fun for me, that crap game made me dislike FPS games.. But after I tried the KZ3 SP demo yesterday, I got the Killzone-fever back. I normally delete every demo on my PS3 after I played through them once, but this one stayed on my PS3. I need to play more, and try it with Move..

GG you do not need to fix this shit.!

and shit that tank is really smiling.. haha

BTW Nib, thanks for answering my q regarding the images. I need to play a bit with my setup it seems, since I thought it was properly calibrated yet I couldn't see the helghast logo at the beginning of the game (brightness test).

Also, is it possible to zoom in with the sniper rifle? I only got one zoom level (scope) but can't go further than that and I seem to remember this was possible in K2.

No worries! Also, you should only barely just be able to see it mind. With the lights off I could just about see it, with my lights on I had to look really hard to see it (Screen is already calibrated).

About the rifle, I don't think there's a sniper rifle in the demo? At least I didn't find one. There is however a Helghan rifle, I believe it's called a Sta14? It's like a mid zoom rifle and only has the one zoom entry.

I also just wanted to say that I really think GG does some of the best on screen hit detection. It's always clear were I am hit from at the "blood" effect doesn't obscure my screen too much so I can still see everything. I appreciate this so much after Codblops.

Do you have RGB range set to "Full" in your PS3's options? It should be set to "Limited" unless you have a tv with an extended gamut (not many folks do, as I understand it), otherwise the HGH logo will appear dark no matter how high you set the brightness.

About the issue you are having with camera control, I suggest a different "mental" approach to it. Don't look at the cursor but just flick your wrist left or right. Don't be afraid to "over-turn" as the camera stop system they have got there deals with it pretty well.

Ah, I see, you finally got there I already was. ;D I have turn speed up to 100 though and a lot depends on the calibrating process.

Can you help me with cursor drifting? :(

QUOTE TO SEE ACCOUNT INFO TO GRAB DEMO

If anyone wants the demo, the demo is still in my download history, which makes me believe anyone can grab it. Quote this message to see the account info. Do not repost account info anywhere else. I don't give a fuck if I lose the account, I just want to help GAFFERS out.

Cheers :)

If you're clueless, make a new user account on your PS3, sign up for PSN and create an existing PSN account. Use the account info above, login, go to the store and view the download list. Download and play.

thanks but there's way too many leechers on this account.
Was able to grab it before being kicked out of the account.

I just download the KZ2 demo, and I change my mind about the visuals, 2 looks better. But 3 still controls much nicer.

I said this early on, without a doubt KZ2 looks better, I think if more people booted up KZ2 they might be quite surprised.

Played the demo again. The inability for the water and anything it touches to look like water really urks me out :( I hope the demo is from an older build, too. Audio is oddly mixed during cutscenes.

I agree, the water looks nothing like water, which is odd because the water in KZ2 looked amazing.

You're absolutely fucking mental.

Maybe, but,

Issues I have with KZ3 in comparison to KZ2,

  • Less weighty control scheme
  • gfx clipping
  • shimmering which makes the aa look poor.
  • no object blur
  • shooting from cover or around a corner my bullets are hitting an invisible wall quite often.
  • poor water effects
  • Frame rate isn't as smooth.

Overall the game just doesn't feel as polished as KZ2.

I played 2 last night and I wouldn't say it looks better. Both are pretty equal to me.

There is zero visual feedback that suggests that the water has any sort of effect on either Sev or the platform he lands on. The water ends up feeling incredible hollow, instead of giving the impression of having heft and mass as the animation might suggest.

Sev doesn't look drenched at all, or freezing.

Bolded parts are just plain wrong, or something that didn't happen to me.

Talk about nitpicking lol...

I guess we can all blame Uncharted for that.

I've played the demo twice, the only framerate issues I've had are during cutscenes, and there were instances of slow down in KZ2.

While I agree about Sev it has NOTHING to do with graphics.

I don't agree about platform though, there is a lot of spatter.

i had some instances of clipping too. I was surprised.

The AA is fine for a console game like this. Sure, i hope one day all jaggies will be dead and gone, but when you sit at a normal distance from your screen, this game looks great.

Improvements can still be made in a lot of areas, but we have to realise that games take a lot of time and money to make allready. It's not that guerilla can't make Sev look wet and cold by the water.. But i think they made the decision not spend that much time on the two seconds that this is in the game.

I'm just critiquing it in comparison to KZ2, as it stands KZ3 looks amazing.

Shimmering exists in the game FACT, you are obviously not that susceptible to it.

Clipping also exists as commented on by Always-honest above.

I didn't really have a problem with the frame-rate in game also but it wasn't as smooth as KZ2 imo, but then that could be down to less motion blur, that being said though if the game really is pulling 3 times the poly count and higher draw distance I'm not surprised tbh.

Oh yeah, why are there no splashes when I shoot the water? It looks spectacular, but shooting at it as the first thing I did and I felt kinda awkward when there wasn't even a splash.

The AI is so smart on the hardest difficulty. A firefight between myself and 4 Helghast can take up to 5 minutes. Everything is very cohesive now and I love using cover when I didn't use it at all in the second. The sprinting, sliding, vaulting, brutal meleeing, etc makes the shooting scenarios flow so well and I love it.

I can't believe I was going to skip on this. Played thedemo last night and it was very fun. The jetpacks add a lot. I loved the pacing and the brighter level was a nice break away from most of the drabness of KZ2. This game looks much better and CLEANER than KZ2. There is an overall impression it leaves that it's much more polished than the first. And I'm not just talking about the visuals either, the gameplay feels better too. Sorry about you hardcore KZ2 fans but the controls are better in this one. It was more action packed than I anticipated as well. I think I will trade in Black Ops for this as I hardly play that anymore. Very impressed and I was really going to skip this for no reason.

Thanks for the sharing the demo.

I never played KZ2, but I will definitely be picking up 3. It looks and plays spectacular.
I may even consider getting Move as well.

While I disagree with a lot of what you've said -- I think KZ3 looks better than its predecessor, and I've played through the whole game -- the shimmering was an issue I noticed as well. Most games seem to have it, and while it's not as bad in Killzone 3 as it is in other games (I'm looking at you, Red Dead Redemption), it does take away from the image quality.

I'm more offended by the dialog then anything else. It's worst then KZ2 :/

Dialog..? the only thing I remember from the Demo is the moaning and groaning when Sev and Rico crash .. it sounded like two men having intercourse.. My wife had to look twice to make sure I wasn´t looking at gay porn..

"...Really?" when the wave hit Sev was cringe-worthy.

The "Now it's clear." That Rico says when they ambush the two soldiers was even worse. Stuff like that ruins the atmosphere for me personally. It's like the game can't decide if it's being even half serious or tongue-in-cheek.

In some ways, I think KZ2 looks better, but I don't think it's as cut and dried as you make it out to be.

The textures are higher resolution in KZ3, the level size is much greater (there were no areas as large as the field during the final segment of the KZ3 demo), and the AA is better.

KZ2 has a more unique appearance, however, that is somewhat lost here.

The object blur is still in KZ3, though, just toned down.

Here's a rough shot I took with my phone. I used my TVs freeze function to capture this in motion. The TV divides the screen into two when I use the pause feature, however, so it's a smaller window. You can still clearly see that blur in the weapon despite that. The same occurs when a character or object moves quickly across the screen.

Game looks great.

It's a decidedly different feeling game, though, and it's a bit jarring. Sure the controls are snappier and the cover system flows well but the act of shooting is no longer what it was in the last game. KZ2 was a visceral, muscular shooter. The guns here feel empty and lack the unique handling of its predecessor. I played the game on Veteran and the AI seemed kind of dumb and the game felt quite easy. I guess this is because of the bigger arsenal you have now (2 main weapons and a jetpack). I appreciated the more open areas and the jetpack is awesome but I feel like as a pure shooter, this is a big step back from KZ2.

Had a blast, controlling Sev is much more fun this time around. I would love the option to remove locking into cover. Ever since I played Farcry 2, I've wanted the sliding mechanic in every FPS. Thank you GG for adding it in :)

Did anyone else hear the Helghast say "get away from his corpse"? I lol'd.

I loved the demo, was floored by how good (and frantic and varied) it was. When the game was over I both wanted more, and wanted to give my senses a bit of rest (though also because I was playing with Move, but at the end I forgot about that).

Move works great in single player, and clear that I'll be playing with this through the campaign now, no question about it.

Imho it is much better looking than Killzone 3. Sure 2 looked great, but this is a big step up.

Its easier because the game kills in 2 shots.
