LEGO Batman 2 already does that, though.
Honestly, that's what's really throwing me off here since I remember back when it was LEGO City Stories that the big hook was the open world layout, but then I found out about LEGO Batman 2 doing the same (as well as introducing full VA, just like this game is doing), so I went back to being puzzled as to what this game was doing that was warranting so much hype. I mean, right now, it just seems like one of Nintendo's ways of making a third party feel extra special on the Wii U, in this case Warner Bros. Interactive.

There is a major stylistic difference between:

I'd much rather play in a bright, vibrant sandbox than a dark, gritty gotham one.
You know, as much as I hate the fact that TT's LEGO games all have that "real world/LEGO world" fusion to the environments, that's some pretty nice texture work in the LCU screenshots.
So it's the lack of a popular IP that's the big tipping factor?

I think Nintendo have known for quite a while they wouldn't be getting GTA V. (I think Rockstar wanted compensation) This was elevated as such, initially, in maybe a misguided attempt to make up for that.
for me at least lego city undercover > GTA V
Just pre-ordered from Walmart, since they have it listed for $49.96, very excited about the game
I'm gonna be a bad ass cop with the bad ass car
Heh, check this out:
In-game vs art, surprisingly close!
No moustache?! *cancels preorder*
Really looking forward to this. I'm curious to see if there's any additional influence of it being Nintendo published and maybe produced.
As for the commercial, these US Wii U ads are bad, but frankly nothing is as bad as the Gamecube campaign. The spinning cube was even worse.
Generally, I don't think NoA has any idea how to market themselves to what is perceived as a traditional gaming audience. Wii's marketing was good because it was going after a fresh demographic, and brought a fresh perspective.

Yeah, you're right. Although you were never specific about any game, you never said "every game" and "in any case". So that was worded poorly by me.Well, i don't think i ever said every games will have anti-aliasing, i can't obviously speak for every studios in the world lol. But for the projects of my sources, who had jaggies and lacked AA in their E3 2012 demos, it was indeed implemented late in the development cycle.
Well, there is a Dirty Harry reference and a Terminator reference in one of the latest trailers, nothing today's kids would know about.I'm excited for this. My only fear is that the game will be instead of family orientated, kid orientated.
I think how some of this stuff remains prevalent is being underestimated. Failing that, well, it's probably how they'll be exposed to this stuff initially anyway; I didn't know about Citizen Kane when I saw Tiny Toons make a parody episode about it, and the original Star Trek series has been done for decades yet references will pop up.Well, there is a Dirty Harry reference and a Terminator reference in one of the latest trailers, nothing today's kids would know about.
I think that people noticed that back when it was unveiled at E3, but that god awful framerate was a bit more prominent at the time.Do the textures seem higher-res than the PS360 versions of LB2 and such? Maybe they are taking advantage of the extra RAM for textures?

Jesus these commercials suck, if anything it sapped the hype for me
I honestly don't get the extreme hate some members on Gaf have for the Wii U commercials. What about them is so fucking terrible that it ruins your hype (if there ever was any hype in the first place)?

I do think it's a bit disappointing thus far what i'm seeing in terms of AA.
It definitely gives off some GTA vibes, hopefully it's not just giving that impression without trying to live up to it. Assuming the reviews are as good or better than most recent LEGO games (LEGO lotR and Batman 2 were definitely improved, especially the former), it's a day 1 buy for me.
I just hope we get GTAV and not Reggie saying "This can be the Wii U's replacement for GTAV"
I saw the green pipe in one of th eearlier trailers, think this game will have Nintendo odes and cameos???
It tries so damn hard to follow whatever trend Nintendo's PR team thinks is hot in the United StatesI honestly don't get the extreme hate some members on Gaf have for the Wii U commercials. I don't like the look of GTA V very much but I really hope it comes to the Wii U.
It's a vast highly replayable game it seems and I bet it turns out very cool.

I bet they will add some NSMB "PAH PAH" every 5 seconds on the Lego City Undercover soundtrack !
LET'S REJOICE !
i'm out
I don't mind the Bah Bahs, you can't affect me at all.
I'd even pay for them for DLC in Lego City.
Ok, I'm lying.
If I had the energy I'd edit the Great Mighty Poo song and replace every damn noun with "Bah".
