Great start for Tamagotchi 2! This game should put up decent numbers right through the holiday season.

Excellent numbers again for NSMB. Still holding on over 100k per week. Just insane.

Very nice start for Mario 3-on-3 as well. I don't recall basketball games ever selling well in Japan, so to come out of the gate over 100k is very nice.

Disappointing numbers for Mushiking. I didn't expect it to hold up with the GBA sales, but I expected more than this.

Also disappointing for Derby Stallion. The last title from Enterbrain (Derby Stallion '04) sold more than 600k on the PS2, so this PSP version looks to do only a tiny fraction of that number.

Nice debut for Mario Basket 3 on 3, also amazing sales for NSMB again. It broke 2.5m mark :D

Hm. If these numbers hold up, it looks like the new Mushi King is roughly in line with the opening week of the first DS MK. It'll be interesting to see whether it exhibits longer legs, or whether it will see a similarly sharp drop-off.

Does anyone think there's a possibilty of a resurgence for titles like Mushi King a couple of months down the line in the wake of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl?

Oh, and for opening weeks, how would Mario Hoops compare to the GBA Mario sports titles? ISTR first week totals of approx 40-50,000 for the GBA versions, so over 110,000 in its first week would be a damn good showing for Hoops.

Ouch for Mushiking. I thought it would be just a little under Tamagotchi, even so nice sales for both Tamagotchi and Mario Basketball.

Great week as predicted, so very near to 5 FIVE 100k sellers! Nice numbers for BASARA 2, no wonder why Capcom is already planning third one. Good for Kamaitachi no Yoru 3 at this point...does someone have prequels numbers?

Better than expected for Mario Basketball, it did very good in weekend...tamagotchi 2 too. We'll the legs of those two and mushiking...

150,000 units say sold, but the last few weeks there has been maybe 500,000 software sales across the whole board. Mario has hit 2.5m in 2 months or less. Which drags any tie ratio up. That’s 1in4 sales for Mario in Japan.

Anyway
Didn't Mario Basket sell through 46% and 46,000 on its first day?
So either more got shipped or something is wrong??

I don't have any numbers for the 'PS2 the Best' version. Probably another 30-40k.

34.420.000 software units shipped

Tie-Ratio: 3,725:1

Not bad tie-ratio for handheld that is, PS2-GC are 9:1.

But didn't that pack get released alongside the game a few weeks ago? And since the game is on the decline and has been received badly in general by the Japanese, it would seem strange to thank the LocoChoke-o pack for the constant weekly increases...but hey, you never know :)

Seems hiring a celebrity to promote the budget release is definitely helping sales. And keeping said celeb on contract for future Gyakuten Saiban games is a wise move by Capcom.

Short term price cut I think (maybe to get rid of old stock).

Amazon Japan cut most PSP hardware prices, the cheapest one went from ￥20,790 to ￥ 17,959. Only ￥1,000 more than the DS Lite retail price.

Ah yes, thanks, I remember now - I KNEW there was a real reason behind the rise. PS2s were slashed as well, if I remember rightly..

Yeah that might be true. I saw that Amazon(jp) shifted quite a lot of PSP accessories (much more than usual) lately. Strangely enough I didn't really see much more games making the top 25.

That's the thing, the PSP is selling is VERY strong numbers each week, with hardly any major software sales. However, the GBA was like that for a very long time in the UK. People clearly are buying such a wide spread of PSP games / movies as opposed to concentrating mainly on a select few DS titles.

That's my view on it, anyway :)

Good start for Mario 3on3, mine just showed up from YesAsia and it's pretty damn good. A lot more depth in the touchscreen controls than I thought.
