japan-only price cut seems unlikely given Iwata's recent comments regarding the globalization of pricing.

it's nice to see they're not going to try and cruise through the summer in japan before giving a bit of a "push" though.

In the week before release I saw 3 ads for Tact of Magic. Not a big push, but there were ads for it. 4000 is way to low. I think Nintendo has no one but themselves to blame. This policy of announcing a release date a few weeks before something comes out needs to stop. I kind of wanted this one but I had no tie to save for it. Well looks like it will be in the 2000yen bin soon enough... :(

This game was actually announced back in their Fall conference last year.

EDIT - Ahh, the release date.

You didn't read his post closely enough - he said the release date was announced too late. The game was known about for months, but it's only in the past month or so that a release date was set.

I tend to agree with Vinnk - when you know a game is going to be arriving in a certain week/month a couple of months in advance, you can plan your finances. When it turns up in the shops one day without any notice it's easy to put off your purchase, even if it's a game you're interested in.

The Top 30 2009 games are for games released in 2009. The Top 10 budget games are seemingly random.

18k is better than i expected. still its not good, 50k would be good for a first week of a western 360 release in japan.

Wow, I never noticed Demon's Souls before, that game goes back three months and is still floating around the top 50. Only 40K 1st week though, what an under-shipment.

Demon's Souls is now at 120,000+ which is AMAZING. I think plenty of us thought here that it would be lucky to break 100K but that baby has monster legs.

It debuted at almost 40K in its first week so now it already has a FIRST WEEK - LTD ratio lower than 33%. It will only get lower in the next few weeks or months.

This means:

1. Longest legs on an HD console? (I think GT5:p has it beat for now)
2. Longest legs for a "hardcore" game in JP this generation?
