I'm really glad Splatoon did well. Since the word of mouth is good, it might continue to sell well for a while. Like Mario Kart that finally managed to reach the one million mark (though that's out of reach for Splatoon).

Even an XBox One game made the top 20 this week. When did that last happen?

Like the others said, nice debut for splatoon (my guess 2 weeks ago was 110k FW or so) - nice boost for Wii U and mario kart 8.

Also WiiU almost the same YTD as last year, while all other consoles show a bigger decline. Admittedly it didn't sell THAT much in the first place, but last year had mario kart 8 as a release.

Are we reading the same numbers?

The only platforms that are heavily down YoY are mature platforms.
Wii U is 1.5 k down even though a big release, Vita down less than 1k, PS4 almost double last year lol.

Regardless of new IP or not, Splatoon did amazing. When you compare it to the launch numbers of other titles on Wii U it did rather well.

I think you can replace "Wii U" with "consoles this generation" and still have that statement hold up.

I think competent, original online games could be a catch for japanese gamers at home. Nintendo is doing very well now in this regard and this might be very productive if they keep and expand this focus for their next console.

Vita creeping up on the 4 million mark, almost certain to pass it in June. Nice. The decline has been much softer than expected, thanks to Minecraft.

color me surprised, i totally thought splatoon was going to be a Codename STEAM level of bomba in japan. Good to see something hit well on the WiiU after the slightly disappointing reception of XenobladeU

I was hoping for 200k with Splatoon. But after seeing the other Wii U opening weeks, the context makes me realize I was way too optimistic lol. Nintendo's marketing push behind this game definitely helped I guess.

Other than relatively good numbers for Splatoon and Wii U, pretty rough week though.

There weren't 200k copies to sell.

This is what it looks like for a game to be a hit now? These are "decent for a tiny developer like Falcom" numbers. Worse, even. After seeing the game exploding all over Nico Nico Douga I thought I would see something at least in the 250 range.

It really is over.

Edit: Even if there weren't 200k to sell, it didn't reach 150 either.

Amazing debut, comparatively, for Splatoon which I think is great for Nintendo, I want them more focused on high profile original IP for their next console and handheld. Disappointing sales for the Wii U, but the console's pretty much saturated in Japan anyway.

Game was nearly sold out. There weren't that many copies shipped.

It's 2015, not 2005, and you're talking about a Wii U exclusive new IP third-person shooter in Japan. So yes.

Euhm, YTD, not YoY. Last year MK8 launched around the same time I think, and YoY can fluctuate depending on what is released that week. YTD is where we should look at.

Code:
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD | Difference
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+-------------+
| WIU | 17.713 | 7.611 | 19.312 | [B]212.010[/B] | [B]239.436[/B] | -27.426 |
| 3DS # | 17.636 | 15.257 | 23.773 | [B]827.701[/B] | [B]947.799[/B] | -120.098 |
| PSV # | 13.046 | 11.775 | 13.957 | [B]441.711[/B] | [B]580.819[/B] | -139.108 |
| PS4 | 12.272 | 12.096 | 6.508 | [B]530.219[/B] | [B]587.690[/B] | -57.471 |

So the only thing I pointed out was that the WiiU was keeping it's YTD numbers steady, as low as they may be.

Besides, Famitsu has it at 156k btw

Good job, Splatoon! Word of mouth will greatly benefit this game. I think this game may show some legs too. I sure hope it does!

So we're not getting Famitsu numbers in the OP anymore? Or is it a temporary thing.

Nice numbers for Splatoon, hope it has decent legs.

Very good hold for The Witcher 3, it's going to sell more than Xenoblade X overall.

It really is over.

Edit: Even if there weren't 200k to sell, it didn't reach 150 either.

Yes it did according to Famitsu. And few new IPs start off with huge numbers, wait a few months to see where it's at at that point.

Ahh damn, sorry. Read as YoY :p

And yeah it seems Wii U is shitty but stable.

Excellent debut for Splatoon, so happy to see it sell that much. Nintendo get on to the restocking man.

With new maps and modes releasing every week or two along with Splatfest, it could have some legs.

They need to keep pushing it along with new content. Keep making noise about Splatoon Nintendo.

Would be funny to see a list of the all the posters saying it will bomb.

MK8 keeps on trucking, with every successful Wii U launch game, Mk8 gets a bump.

Good Splatoon debut considering the stock shortages. Though I actually find it more intresting that a Xbox One game actually charted, I don't think that's happened since launch, has it?

At the rate things are going Minecraft will be selling more than Vita soon - has this ever happened 12+weeks in for any other sw/platform?

Edit: Even if there weren't 200k to sell, it didn't reach 150 either.

Things don't have to sell through 100% to be impacted by shipping. If a game sells through even 80%, it's not going to be available in a lot of places, slowing down or even stopping sales on a local scale.
