Meta Quest 3 releases on October 10.

Do not buy this shit.

It's a great product but it's walled garden and lack of some must have features makes it a very short term investment, meta VR has the advantage of price but will end up with a brick toy without use laying around.
4.5m pixels dual lenses, pancake lens, 110 fov, mixed reality, great controllers included without rings,AV1 decoder, brand new CPU/GPU 2x power, full color passthrough.

This is an amazing VR for 500$. There is nothing close to it

If it did not have PCVR support I could maybe understand your POV but I have a bought 4 Quests and use them all with PCVR, even my original Quest 1.

I dunno if you know this but the Quest 2 is the most used PCVR headset on steam.

Air link/Virtual desktop IT'S NOT support for PCVR is a workaround.

Are you kidding? Its full on support with a cable or wireless. As I said it is the most used headset on Steam which kinda stomps all over your "Short term investment" argument also.

Are you speaking of Meta giving up on PCVR games? If so yeah that sucks but also I understand why they would. At least the headset can still play PCVR games, that is all I care about, although I dont mind having a stand alone native Quest game either and the Quest 3 is shaping up to be decent natively.

As shitty a company as Meta are they have pushed VR forward more than any other company.

Stupid people will always be stupid I guess....

I've made my reasoning pretty clear.

You don't even know what you're talking about is the problem.

Many of us here have been playing quest 2 for years on pcvr. I set mine up in minutes and play it very regularly.

So what happened that makes quest 3 different? Explain it.

You call your reasoning clear? Its pretty vague.

I would also argue stupid people take to the internet to try to tell strangers how to spend their money.
dense as fuck huh?

This is a fucking forum, it's a place for people to share opinions...

Understanding that? Maybe that's expecting too much of the likes of you.

Maybe learn to frame your opinions in a better way. Like saying "I will not buy this" instead of "I will tell all of you strangers not to buy it"

Also, in case you can't tell by the other 10 people who quoted you, your opinion is shit and nonsensical.

Dude I'm not ordering you around do whatever's the fuck you want I do not fucking care.

It was just a general opinion, stop with your parasocial projections I didn't even know you exists.

You clearly care a lot when you're this emotional. I hate to anger you even more, but I already pre ordered mine 😇

I ordered mine, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth regarding quest 1. Software that I used for years all of a sudden would not work and was exclusive to the Quest 2.

Yes, I am the problem for deciding to give them my money. That VR pron is just too good. 😅🤣

Well that was entertaining, I guess lay off the insults and claiming products you haven't even used are shit in the future lol.

Yeah, when you list it out like that, damn. It'll definitely bring a new level of VR, and same as I feel with the PSVR2, even if it's not completely perfect, it's still such a revolutionary experience for gaming, the more the merrier!

Yeah I think the Deck is the more "practical" one, though these are both just potential toys for me. The Quest though would be more novel and provide experiences other than the normal gaming I've already been doing on other devices though.

Decisions decisions!
I got the deck! And the oled… but returned the oled. Can’t see myself paying $400 for a device that may be unrelevant in a year

i can get 75$ off the oculus so I might be getting that too!

He's not wrong, Link is an afterthought that is only begrudgingly supported cause they know it helps sell some number of headsets. They'd kill it in a heartbeat if they could. It's compressed to hell and turns most games into banding and posturization Simulators in the best case, and a Youtube video in the worst case. If they gave 2 shits about PC connectivity, they'd make the USB C port the display port variety and add a dedicated Wigig solution.

In terms of better headsets, Pico 5 and 5 Pro are rumored to be 2.5K and 4K per eye, with at least one of them having an actual Display Port USB C output and eyetracking. It will be very easy for a competitor to out spec Quest 3 as they cut a helluva lot of corners. Q3's main advantage is the exclusive games they're funding like Ass Creed, Asgard, RE4, etc... I'm incredibly shocked that Pico and Valve are seemingly going to let Quest 3 launch to a million+ preorders without even teasing what they have in the works.

Pico 5 has the same chipset. Going high res means lower performances. There's no winning there.

Quest 3 supporting AV1 decoder and wifi 6e will eventually make airlink much better quality.

In fact i would never recommend a pico. OS is shit, it's the chinese copycat but everything is worse. Just look how Meta supported Quest 2 throughout the years? The launch unit versus now is night and day in features.

They will make objectively better PCVR/SteamVR headsets though, significantly, generationally so. Even locally, eyetracked foveated rendering will murder Quest 3 with those panels. If Pico and Valve both standardize eyetracking next year with much higher res and/or higher contrast panels (i.e mOLED or local dimming LCDs), Quest 3 will be a paperweight.

FOV is 110 confirmed. Combined with pancake lenses and higher resolution, that's massive.

Sold.

I got some of those Chinese OEM 'VR' glasses. They work, but they are literally just two screens put in front your eyes. I haven't touched them in months.

You're comparing apples to oranges

Pico 5 in april next year is 6 months later for no advantage except a ridiculously small bump in resolution, but nobody beats Oculus in optics as of now.

Eye tracking comes on Pico 5 pro, October 2024. Your DP direct connection chip with 3840x3840 is Pro Max in December 2024, at a whooping $1,200 USD.

How is this even in the discussion? Future product is better, no shit. And for those dates, god knows when in USA because Pico 4 is not even officially in North American market yet as far as I'm aware. Importing VR headsets, what could go wrong with support.

Hey don't buy Pico pro max, Meta will release the next Quest! Hey don't buy the next Quest, Deckard's gonna release! Hey don't buy the Pico 6, the varifocal meta headset will release and make everything else a paperweight, wait until...

Going back to that banned guy's suggestion as of OCTOBER 2023, what's the alternative to Quest 3? (no walled garden by his criteria).

For me, I don't like being limited to just PCVR. It's where I spend alot of time, but I really like just taking my headset anywhere and playing.
Not to mention pico doesn't have any games like Assassin's Creed/Asgard's Wrath etc. Those are just the start, but it's clear Pico doesn't have the investment muscle to make those level of games happen. On top of that, they're more expensive.
If they were $500 and had big studio deals it'd be different, but new/better hardware is always coming.

Quest 2 owner here, waiting for reviews.
PCVR is what I'm most concerned about, people are making too many assumptions about AV1 decode being automatically better without reviews/testing. I also want to know what the binocular overlap is and if the FOV is actually noticeably better as the specs indicate.

I think it's mostly people playing Quest 2 with face pads that increase FOV and going to Quest 3 with the stock one. All things the same, the Quest 3 will be noticeably different I'm sure. Not insane, but there. However, waiting for reviews isn't a bad idea. Hard to dispute how huge the lenses advantage will be though, and a 30% in resolution ain't bad either along with better weight distribution.

That's the thing, will the quest 3 design with third-party face pads allow a good increase in FOV?
My experience so far, after owning a number of VR headset is to wait on user reviews, to kind of give us a more detailed look at different aspects of a headset, since some of us have different priorities when it comes to VR.

Yeah, it will give more FOV, but it remains to be seen how much. I think the people who are saying its definitely noticeable are those running stock Quest 2 face pads.

For me though, as I've said before, I don't notice a huge difference, or I get used to it quickly until its something like a pimax. Anything under 120ish is sort of samey within an hour I'm already used to it anyway.

I went ahead and pre-ordered! Mainly interested in trying Alyx, seeing 3D movies via Skybox/BigScreen (and getting to feel like I'm sitting in a theater too!), finally trying some 3D Pinball gaming (via Zen or community tables), and probably the classic PS2 RE4 in VR and a few Quest titles not on PSVR2.

It'll be fun to see a wireless set as well, and have the really clear pancake lenses, but I will miss the super vibrant colors from the PSVR2 a tiny bit I'm sure! Still, having the wireless freedom and access to PCVR is something I've been missing out big time, so I'm finally on board. I don't expect Asgard's Wrath 2 to be super amazing, but I do think it'll be more of an actual game than Horizon was, so that's good. But I'll definitely be more interested in mods like Skyrim VR and others that look a bit more AAA.

Big selling point for me as well. PCVR is amazing but sometimes you just need the convenience of a game installed locally.

I hope you enjoy it! I preordered as well. I have a Quest 2 and it blew me away when I got it. It is starting to wear, and I've ran out of space and want more now out of my VR headset, so I'm cautiously excited for the Quest 3. I have so many ideas for the color passthrough.

Can't this be used for PCVR which is in no way a walled garden?

I’ve heard there is going to be an update to improve pass through performance on day one. We‘ll see.

it's really NOT a walled garden considering you can connect it to your PC and play SteamVR.

I tried that VR porn. I couldn't see anything at first but I could hear this chick breathing heavy and talking about licking it or something. I thought maybe the screens were broke or something but then I looked round and realized this chick's thighs were in my face and I was looking up her butthole.

Truly SD was the best timeline for porn. So much has been lost now in the future.

Index and PSVR.
Ok so using this as a reference:

And from my POV of only owning a PSVR2 (and pre-ordering this) and not having completely comprehensive VR knowledge these are my bullet points for you:

-Quest store and PCVR support. Not the biggest plus, but it does offer some cross-buy titles with PC VR, and is a good selection of apps and software.
-Own THE standard. Meta headsets are what VR games are designed around and built/tested the most in. You're going to get the most compatible product on the market for software. Games are made to run at their best on this headset, well within what's feasible. It can't exactly run PSVR2 hybrid stuff, but the neat VR stuff like Red Matter 2 or Walkabout Mini Golf which is arguably a better use of the device, no doubt.
-Standalone. Big deal here if you've only owned devices requiring other hardware IMO. Ability to just tap a button on the headset and be right in the game with no extra fuss. Traveling or whatever (probably more by car than plane), take the headset and all the games loaded in it or just bring your library of 3D movies or whatever.
-Pancake lenses. A generation above the others in edge to edge clarity. Way way way better IQ.
-Better quality passthrough.
-Significantly higher resolution so way way way less pixels visible - can actually display UHD in full when each eye is sent a unique image. Alyx should be much nicer without the low resolution from what I've read.
-Better FOV than the Index (one of its weaknesses)
-Lighter than the index
-No additional setup of cameras
-Hand tracking
-USB C (modern charging and output capability)
-Wifi 6 (Wireless!) Complete freedom!
-Actually has bluetooth, but apparently not low latency AptX or whatever, so probably still going to use a dongle if going wireless earbuds
-Onboard storage, Android OS, etc
-AV1 codec decoding support @ 120fps (significant step forward in wireless quality and great for decoding newer format movies - AV1 is more future/popular than h/x 265)
-All this and costs less than the Index (I think)
-BigScreen/Skybox (in comparison to PSVR I think, Index had this, but now it'll be able to be higher res)

You must be doing it wrong. VR porn is simply incredible. Cannot go back to 2D.

Gotta put that baby to work 😏

JK lol. I was actually thinking of a mini golf course level creator with Walkabout Mini Golf in your home.
Really sounds like a gimmick that will work. Would be interested in how big your spaces could be. Imagine building a course through your house.

Some good info. They talk about the GPU memory cache being 10x more than quest 2 at one point.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. Every video I have watched basically says the same thing. It's great to hear some conversations that go into some of these subjects.
