That doesn't answer my post.
They keep saying the goal is to get to the center of the galaxy and that we'll find 'something' there, yet the back of the box says it's to get to the center of the universe. So which is it?
The main line in that bit is "
let's not spoil it for people".
I'd say the leading theory on the web, reddit etc. is that everyone starts in a single galaxy (as Sean says in that interview), your goal is to reach that galaxy's center, and then the game opens up, unlocking access to other galaxies.
My take on that is that whatever it is at the center of
any NMS galaxy serves as a portal
to centers of all other galaxies, so a "galaxy center" in the NMS lore is a door to a hub, a place leading to all other "galaxy centers". If you think of it that way, a "galactic center" leads to a "universal center" (the hub), so it's actually a journey to the center of the galaxy
and the universe at the same time.
Of course I may be way off with this. We all may be starting at a fringe galaxy and we actually have to hop from galaxy to galaxy to reach something strange at the center of the universe (if the NMS universe is a bubble and it actually has a center). Or, the space in the game is entirely different, and it's more like a mush of 18 quintillion planets in a more primordial form or whatever, and there's a center of the universe where the "big bang" occurred or something.
Since the nature of the NMS universe is obviously a spoiler, they're being cagey about the wording, which in turn creates a lot of speculation and confusion.
EDIT:
Just to add, saying that the you take a "journey to the center of the universe" is also helping to avoid additional questions from journalists, because a "galaxy with 18 quintillion planets" is a very strange, suspicious thing, because they've hinted over the years that the game has multiple galaxies, is bigger than a single galaxy etc, so using the word "universe" is accurate in any case, and because they're also referring to the "game's universe", like The Elder Scrolls or the Mass Effect universe.
