That's very possible. In fact, what would happen is the dev would be branded as misogynistic racists and "games journalist" at kotaku and polygon would write hate pieces about them.

In terms of gaming industry folk ......

Lets face it. The main reason gaming devs/staff post on a gaming forum is for PR and advertisement. It's great for customer research, feedback and helps with rep.
Nothing wrong with it. It's a tested, tried and true method.

But you can't really convince them to come to you. Gaf still has a somewhat bad rep around certain gaming sites still. It hasn't even been a year since the USS. nut job departure.
You have to give it time to die off.

Focus on the core of the site. Meaning the users. Build that up first and get the place back to it's pre-2010 life.
Get those numbers back up and get the big threads going around the big games. Make the site attractive towards big names. Make it worth while for them to post.

If you build it. They will come.

She melted down after that and dragged us to her LA cultist buddies for a whole separate ordeal.

There is hard evidence behind everything I'm saying. She deleted her own story before the scandal even had a chance to break, because it was a nonsensical, shoddily constructed fantasy written during a manic episode and accompanied by a dozen other fucked up stories. I was the only person named, because she was pressured by her feminist pals to out the guy she had mentioned was a public figure or whatever, someone prime for destroying via #metoo, and so she attached my name to it. Rob Young aka polyh3dron screenshotted it instantly when he saw it on Facebook and within minutes it was on Voat. Mind you, this was not a public post and he didn't get any kind of consent from her to publicize it. What a hero. Anyway. She deleted it the next day unprompted by me. The day after that, Social Justice Squad on GAF posted those screenshots all over here, coinciding with a highly effective DDoS attack that ended up taking us down for two days et al.

I wasn't gonna drop a bunch of personal texts and photos onto an angry mob that was trying to ruin people's lives just to placate them. Fuck that noise. That would put other people at risk and I had no idea what the hell the motive was for this ridiculous story coming out of left field at the time as well as a bunch of other details in the mix there that complicated the drama. The responsible thing to do, I felt, was to file a defamation suit without seeking damages, collect all the evidence and present it privately, and ask for a formal retraction to clear the air so that I'd have something to point to without dumping a bunch of personal shit onto the internet. By the time that was all ready to be filed, though, gaf had been bombarded with hundreds/thousands of account suicides and porn bombs and ddos attacks and resetera advertising spam, and the narrative had long since moved on to "it doesn't matter if this story is true, EviLore's an incompetent asshole who had it coming." I didn't want money from her, and legal counsel concluded that the allegation had been retracted already when she deleted it from Facebook before the scandal ever happened, and it wasn't possible to e.g. file an injunction against future speech per state law, so monetary damages were the only avenue. Dropped it and moved on to rebuild gaf.

I think this is the best account of the situation I've read so far. Naturally, as I have no involvement and do not know the other party at all, I cannot say I am 100% convinced of one story or the other, but this account sounds consistent and believable. It is a bit unfortunate that it is difficult to find the best formulations right away in a stressful situation (well and it adds to that if it is impossible to relay those words because of DDOS attacks, of course).

Dont think they have had any major devs post anything meaningful outside of pr/advertising stuff in quite a while....its not a friendly and open place and the outside internet has caught onto it.

I think gaf is on a good trajectory.....people are open and talking ....some of the niche stuff is starting to come back and the moderation is not heavy handed and is having fun contributing.

Cerium. Someone who registered here in 2015, accumulated almost 10,000 posts in just about 2 years, was said to spearhead some witch hunt drama harassment campaign, etc..

Some say he was a certain political astroturf payroll, etc.. Someone who won't show his face like EviLore does, ironically.

They're both bi. It's kind of relevant information when describing a MFF love triangle, right? I don't really get how that became a meme hah. Was it transcribed awkwardly or did I throw it in scattershot seemingly at random? That was a three hour long skype voice interview that went 'til 4am, mind you, and I hadn't slept in god knows how long at that point. Totally absurd to do a skype interview under those circumstances and under duress, but I had a small window there without much productive to do in terms of duct taping gaf or doing something proactive whichever way. Didn't have many available channels to talk some of that stuff out in long format, and I was kind of trying to grasp what her motive was and why this #metoo existed at all in real-time while fleshing out some of the messy interpersonal background drama on the call. No doubt a dumb PR move; whatever. Never read the article though.

If I recall correctly that originated from an internal message you sent to gaf mods during the shitstorm which somebody posted publicly. It was mildly amusing how (she's bi) was tossed in there not once but twice matter of factly, in parenthesis. Of course for me it was worth a chuckle, while for those holding pitchforks it was just more evidence of misogyny and toxicity, or something. -_-

Don't forget that Cerium is also the asshole that tried to run a boycott campaign against A Hat in Time here. Imagine being someone that loves video games so much in order to join a video game forum and post compulsively but also hates them enough to try to boycott an awesome (indie) game for petty bullshit reasons.

Yeah I mean, I laid everything out pretty straightforwardly and bluntly (leaving out names or other personally identifiable info of course) to the mods. They were under NDA and I figured I should talk with everyone there about it first and clear the air before writing something formal on gaf or to the press. Plus any initial "what the fuck" live reaction I had to that facebook post being shown to me on slack.

Also, going by his gaf archives, this Cerium guy is...an impressively shitty poster and a total imbecile. :messenger_ok:

Him being an imbecile is one thing, but to have the financial backing to just bring a new forum online out of pocket, and then basically ghost on it is... odd. I’m sure he has an alt on there that is posting, but to make an account ~2 weeks before Hillary declared her candidacy, then shill for her while attacking Bernie supporters constantly then to run a anti-Trump campaign through his posts all while racking up nearly 10k posts in 2.5 years.. is odd. Especially on a forum that became the #5 referred to the Clinton campaign website during that time.... especially in light of the David Brock leaked report. I’m not much into conspiracies, and I don’t hold any love for Trump, but something smells funny about him.

We dont need to sink to that level...just sit back and enjoy the show.....its better they are contained in one area as if you think back to before here imploded it was a shitshow....nobody wants that ..what we have now is a smaller community of people who are open and fun to post with and can actually process someone having a different opinion

Impressive indeed. I tell ya, its a feat to stamp out a new forum with thousands of members (20k in one month, amirite? Look at where it is now 1 year in, not that much better) and have it come crashing down like the Hindenburg disaster at 4x slow-mo. Interesting sights.

Perhaps GAF should organize road trips to this tourist attraction. Going in a party bus to see all the fascinating rides.
