So that new PPG show is really, REALLY bad.

I've always wondered whether people who hate TTG also hate Brave and the Bold. It seems like a similar transition in tone and style, but I never see people complain about Brave and the Bold on GAF.

I like TTG myself, I thought Teen Titans was getting dull in the later seasons and it needed a change. I sometimes wonder whether TTG was meant to last a couple of seasons before they went back to the serious version but it ended up being more popular so they stuck with it.

That's because they're nothing alike.

The creators of TTG even straight up said that the show is supposed to be stupid because it's for kids, as if kids can't enjoy shows that are actually good.

There was an episode where they literally only said waffles for 11 minutes. This is not a joke.

No way man.

I learned a lot about Economics from the Dance for your bees episode.

Teen Titans Go is a good show. Some people just can't get over that they took the same characters and made a different type of show.

It's like saying Batman Brave & The Bold is bad because it's not TAS.

Are you seriously comparing Brave and the Bold with Teen Titans Go?

One amazing thing about this show is that they tried to do an episode about gender identity and fucked up so bad that it comes off as transphobic.

It's not my fault people like objectively awful shows :^)

The people that like it are free to like it but don't say people hate it just because of nostalgia. Plenty of people genuinely dislike it just as plenty of people like it.
I didn't say everyone hated it because of nostalgia. I said some people. But the #1 complaint every time the show comes up is that it's not like the original.

No. Can you read? I said the situations were similar because both are franchises that had shows that shift styles in writing and tone. I never said that BATB was anything like TTG.

I mean, the first time I ever watched TTG I went in thinking it was just TT with a different art style, I hadn't followed anything about it. So when it was just an episode about a sandwich I was super confused.

After a few more episodes i knew it wasn't the show for me.

So long as they follow through with getting rid of the unfathomable evil that is Uncle Grandpa, CN can replace it with whatever tripe they please. Shame this show wound up being just that, though.

Based on everything I've heard and read about the new show, it seems the people in charge don't understand (or want to understand) the essence of what made the original show great, which can be shown a lot by the removal / downplaying of certain characters (and their reasons given as to why), and the noticeably altered style of...virtually everything. Animation, artstyle, writing, characterization, they are substantially different, and not exactly in a good way. The result is that the new show overall comes off as a pale "modernized" imitation of the original show. At least Teen Titans Go can be commended (from a certain point of view) for taking a different direction with the source material (reception of that point of view notwithstanding).

The short of it is that it seems to be a pretty mediocre reboot of one of their iconic shows, which is kind of a shame IMO. The CG Courage short from a couple of years ago was great, and very similar to the original show; so it's not like CN is absolutely inept at revisiting their older works. They just seemed to get a really weak production team for this reboot in particular. I think the new staff would had been better off working on a unrelated new show instead.

UG was genuinely better than TTG at times.

That show really makes me wish CN ended up with Wander over Yonder.

That's fine. I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should like the show. But like I said, the #1 complaint that comes up when this show is talked about is "It isn't like the old show." which is a pretty dumb reason to dislike something. Not liking something because of how it's written is perfectly reasonable.

I'm not saying the shows are the same, but the change in tone from prior shows is similar. TAS and the follow-ons went from relatively serious ongoing storylines to very short, light-hearted and silly stories in the Brave and the Bold. A lot of the characters changed quite a bit too. Like Aquaman in the various Justice League iterations was a serious character but in Brave and the Bold he's a fun-loving doofus. Similar to the way Cyborg became an idiot in TTG.

Did I get into a /co/ thread?
If it was, half the posts in here would be Zootopia porn or shitposting about how Marvel is being ruined by the SJWs.

Brave & the Bold was funny without being annoying.

People were flipping out over a unicorn episode as it symbolizes Trans individuals, which I thought may be overanalyzing (having not seen it) until they posted the interview segment saying it WAS supposed to be about Trans people. It's a train wreck in that regard, to my understanding.

It even includes the line "This is your body and it’s a serious choice!", if there was any questioning it. Clip: https://youtu.be/XQClA5iFwlM

that's not supposed to be positive is it? like I can't think of a single interpretation that makes that alright...

Yeah I've been watching it and it's not doing much for me. I don't think it's deplorable like a bunch of people do, but it's just not that interesting or fun imo, I have to force myself to like it instead of it genuinely pulling me in. There have been a couple of solid eps, but I don't want to spend my time on it until the writers get their stuff together.

You got to be lying about that twerking.

I suspected the show would be bad. I'm doing fine right now watching it on Netflix. I was thinking was there two Sedusa episodes? I saw the one where she impersonated Ms. Bellum, but the girls acted like they already knew her, but I don't recall her being in any of the other episodes before that one.

Brave and the Bold was much better written in general than Teen Titans Go. It also didn't contain thinly veiled jabs insinuating that people who preferred the originals were petulant manchildren.

except brave and the bold is a whole new batman beast. if ttg didnt use the same characters, voice actors, villains, designs, and base locations of the 2000s titans, people wouldnt care as much. except for dc characters, youre not gonna see batb and think dcau.

I doubt the show is as bad as everyone says it is but this is some legit egregious shit. Why did they not consult the creator of the bloody series on this?

I love how Craig replied to that tweet saying "yeah we never used the side view"

this show managed to both a) disregard that policy and b) make an even worse side view

Its great to see its just not me who feels the new PPG is bad. I watched the episode where they fought the kid Manly guy and felt none of the excitement or enjoyment that I remember feeling when I watched the original

Sedusa's first appearance was when she tried to seduce Professor as "Ima Goodlady"

The new PPG is basically everything I hate about reboots put into one show. Absolutely no respect for what made the original so beloved, existing solely to cash in on a well known brand.

Honestly I don't think it's that bad. Definitely nowhere close to the original, but it has surprised me in good ways thus far.

The stuff like the "no me gusta" bit made me cringe hard. Like the original though, they have had a ton of pop culture references. "The Stayover" was pretty clearly a reference to The Hangover.

I had no idea Ms. Bellum was actually gone for good. I thought she would be back after that episode about her "1000 day vacation". She appeared in that episode, and all the pictures on the wall, but they can't have her be a mainstay in the show? That's really disappointing.

If they are gonna add a bunch of memes why not just revive totally spies?

CN doesn't own or produce Totally Spies. Marathon owns and produces the show.

That and the show did get a sixth season a few years ago (after the show ended on its fifth season back in 2007). Don't think it ever made it to the US though (only in France and Canada).

Bubbles pulling a rage face is kind of the antithesis of something like The Beat-Alls, though.

BATB was also just one long ass love letter to the Silver Age (complete with a Grant Morrison boner inducing inclusion of the Batman of Zur-En Arrh). TTG is just one long gag show with the modern gag show premise of "REPEAT THINGS VERY LOUDLY AND WITH EMPHASIS FOR 11 MINUTES." There really aren't bits, just set gags that run for 11 minutes.
