Sony: geohot is altering evidence and fleeing to South America, Geohot: No I'm not

I'm on my iPhone so I can't flesh out the OP at the moment, but Sony has just filed to the court that Hotz has tampered with evidence, lied, and fled to South America.

http://vghq.net/2011/03/23/george-hotz-runs-away-to-south-america-lies-about-having-psn-account/

And here's a source on Hotz tampering with evidence and his lawyers confirming he's out of the country:

What a complete tool. Guess all those donations paid off for him! :p

Edit: here is the official court filing: http://docs.justia.com/cases/federa...ifornia/candce/3:2011cv00167/235965/103/0.pdf

UPDATE: Hotz lawyers say he's returned the necessary HDD components, is only vacationing in South America and won't use any donated funds for his trip.

More here: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1157239p1.html

UPDATE 2: Hotz officially responds, says he's not using legal money and is looking forward to hacking the Xperia Play. http://geohotgotsued.blogspot.com/

South Africa is part of South America now? I know the massive Japan earthquake moved the Earth a bit, but this sounds a lot more serious than I thought!

if that's true, I guess he can thank all the suckers who paid for his vacation.
I wonder if I can pull something like that for when I'll move out....

Good luck to Sony trying to bring him back to the USA on DMCA-violation charges, as for most of the countries IP / copyright-related crimes do not merit extradition.

I have heard that this guy is going to a country where the currency is Reais!

Screw you guys, I want some vacation money too.
IF this is true, then he is exactly the person he seemed like and laugh to anyone to gave him money.

Hoe did he leave the country without any one noticing? Isn't he constantly dealing with the issues of the case, when would he take off.

If you could correct the title, I would be very thankful. :)

In the romantic finale GeoHot runs off to South America with Mathieulh. Both are wounded, but they need to make a run for it. Unaware that the Sony calvary has arrived, they bolt from cover firing their pistols. Fuego is called out, followed by the firing of guns from the calvary. Screen frozen on them, credits roll.

Where did he get the money to take a trip out of country? If it's from the donations and he don't plan to use it for court defense that is genius!! How much did he raise? About 50k? That's a nice bank for that PS3 hack. Gratz to him if he's keeping it but man did he screw a lot of people over if he does. However it did exactly what he wanted the donations to do, keep him out of jail, he can hack more out of country right?

Maybe the donations won't be in vain if he's now safe.

Wow, and I really thought he was going to use those donations to set good legal precedent. If the allegations are true, what a piece of shit.

I thought that most of the time only applies to citizens of said country, right?

The donations weren't provided because people gave a fuck about geohot; it was because people were worried about the precedent it would set if Sony won the case against him. It's entirely in vain.

I doubt he has 'fled the country'. He's probably just on a vacation or something.

He might have some difficulties when he gets back if the court agrees with Sony's claims re. evidence and discovery though.

If true, hope Sony and US team up and send a swat team to get his punk ass. While those who donated, pay for helping a thief.

I am curious, to the people who donated money to him, how do you feel now?
Like they should.

He's only involved in a civil case and AFAIK there were no restrictions on him traveling. His passport wasn't being watched for at every airport or border crossing.

The District Court wouldn't care if he was out of the country so long as it didn't interfere with him co-operating fully with discovery requests and so long as he came back in time for any court appearances.

Fyi, the emails about the HDD are in exhibit S : http://www.groklaw.net/pdf2/SonyvHotz-104-19.pdf

Subject: RE: Imaging of encrypted drives. CRM:0003005

Yasha,
Your client has not provided a “hard drive” but rather parts of the hard drive. A “hard drive” must contain all
the parts that make it a working device which include the enclosure, platters, heads and attached controller
card. This controller card is installed at the factory and not normally removed or handled by an end user.
Regards,
