Beyonce being a kids entertainer? Have you heard her latest album? No way that's kid friendly lol. Katy/Taylor swift are more of the Kids Choice Awards type entertainers that are safe.

I agree that Swift and Perry shouldn't be seen outside of Nickelodeon but to me, all of Beyonce's product, including the latest, is more of kid/ adolescent sort of thing.

I dont think I've ever met an adult that liked Beyonce other than on neogaf. It's has always been girls aged 12 to 24.
Let me introduce you to Twitter.com. Beyonce stans are worldwide and, typically, grown-ass adults who act like she pays their bills.

You really want your kid listening to Partition? Shit might as well let your kid listen to the audio from pornos at that point.

Like sports fans when there team doesn't win? Or the video game fans who can't take when a women has an opinion on their favorite game?
Cut the shit please.

Ryan Adams was nominated. Nothing for Spoon, sadly.

Ah, good stuff. Ryan Adams really reinvented himself (or at least reverted back to making music that is actually, you know, good) so I'm happy to see that.

Spoon's album was a burner. Just amazing from beginning to end. Easily the best "rock" album I heard all year.

Considering Stan was a complete obsessive nutjob I am starting to see why the term sticks so well in this thread and the other Kanye / Swift thread.

He's saying Beyonce is an artist who makes music for kids. So I questioned if Partition was something suitable for kids and he rebuttaled with enemy blah blah corny blah blah.

Just because Partition is racy doesn't make it adult work-- imo it's like a 10-year-old's crayon drawing of a penis. To wit: adult themes do not mature work make.

Uhhh

I think Swift's music is more tween friendly and Katy to a lesser extent, but you're insane if you think Beyonce makes music with 12 year olds in mind. Her demographic has grown up with her and she skews more toward young adult (20 and older) than anything else. I don't think any of them make music thinking "the kids are gonna love this."

I like Beyonce, I really do, but she isn't an artist that revolutionized the industry with creativity and massive talent. She is an unbelievably beautiful person who is a great dancer and has catchy songs here & there.

As someone mentioned she doesn't write her own music, which there is nothing wrong with as many artists in that genre don't. However, shouldn't the most prestigious award go to someone who does?

When you look at who wins album of the year at the Grammy's; Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, U2 in the 80's, Eric Clapton, Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, etc...

I'm not comparing Beck to this artists, but the guy is defiantly really talented. He is an unbelievable musician, and this album was pretty innovative.

I think songwriting is a great talent, and if you can write well, then you should definitely be able to write your own music and sell it. However I also think being a great performer is an amazing skill and it's rare to find someone who really really sells a song on stage. It takes a lot of skill to not only sing live consistently well but also put on a show, know all your marks, connect with your audience and look the part every second of it. The most prestigious awards should go to people who are the most talented and who poured the most of themselves into their work. Reducing Beyonce (who is an unbelievable talent) to just someone who's pretty and can dance rubs me the wrong way, because it's like saying that Beck is just someone who writes forgettable mid-tempos. They both put an insane amount of blood, sweat and tears into their work, and if I give the edge to Beyonce it's because the project was much more large-scale, and ultimately had much more impact on the industry and its respective genre.

At the end of the day there are dozens of barometers we use subjectively to decide the merits of an artist, and the Grammys tend to pit these different barometers against each other. I just think that people tend to reduce popular artists to something less than merely because their share of audience is bigger. Their output may be delivered on a larger scale, but that has nothing to do with the artist's merit. Beyonce is an all-time caliber artist, and will stand toe to toe with the icons you mentioned in 10 years time, along with a handful of other contemporary pop artists that were conveniently left off of your list. :p

Oh I agree completely that they're not making music thinking that it's for kids. That's the sad part.

Yes, both types of people you mentioned are just as irrational as Beyonce stans. I'm one of those irrational sports fans but the difference between me and others is that I recognize that it's silly and I really don't take it too seriously (except in rare occasions) and I certainly don't get this defensive if someone brings up how ridiculous some sports fans are, like you just did when I brought up the Beyhive.

You need to get out more...

And basically all artists love Beyoncé. Yes, even adult ones. She's an inpiration to the most of them.

What about Miley Cyrus? Or Nicki Minaj? Kids are the main demographic for these artists, and they aren't exactly child friendly tunes.

Just because lyrics or messages are dirty doesn't make them quality or mature music....

I am sorry, I was too busy being confused at someone with a Madonna avatar in 2015 criticizing another artist for, well anything.

Stahp. Beyonce's main demographics are young adults 18-24.

I know for some reason people in this thread consider 24 to be a kid. But in the real world...they're not.

It's from 1998 when she released her only good album R A Y O F L I G H T, an album which will remain more influential and more highly regarded than any Beck album. Sit[é]

I would say Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry all have the same fanbase. Perhaps Beyonce has people outside of that base too, but on an overall scale it's a similar one.

14-25. And you completly ignored the intial response which is that just because you make music about sex, drugs and alcohol doesn't mean it isn't targeting a really young audience.

No they don't.

Have you heard the lyrics to Hummingbird Heartbeat?

Shades of 2001: Eminem coming in with all the hype and attention, delivering with a late showstopper, but then getting upset by Steely Dan for album of the year! And just like then, the better album won. Great performance by Beyonce, but Beck deserved it, IMO.

Yes, but I don't think kids even know that song from her. Songs like Roar, Firework, and Part of Me are kid friendly songs, and are way more popular hits from Katy that the younger population know well. She's basically the Queen of the Kids Choice Awards

I don't know how that is a counter to my objection about Katy Perry being kid friendly. Them being more extreme doesn't really matter.

Since when do things have to be kid friendly to be targeted at a kid???

How are we actually going to sit here and act like Kay Perry isn't an artist targeted at kids. Katy Perry is what Britney Spears/Christina Augliera were in their primes.

Who do you think watches those shitty American Pie movies? KIDS!

Yet, no one tipped over cop cars, burn college property, thrown toilet paper on people's home, caused a riot, sent death threats, hacked accounts, etc... As you are trying to make Beyoncé fans seem like. Like I said cut the bullshit. The fanbase is fine and way more classy than the way most of these so called fans of other things act especially regarding situations and outcomes like this. It's music and the haters take it more seriously than people who are the actual fans... Hence the Kanye thread.

Lmao, I didn't make Beyhive people out to be anything more than they are: weirdly-obsessed people who act like Beyonce thinks of them as anything other than another few dollars in her pocket. Stupid shit that sports fans or anyone else does is irrelevant to this thread or what I was talking about but since you are, for some reason, so protective over Beyonce and her more-obsessed faction of fans, you lashed out over a post that wasn't even directed at you. Calm your ass down and take that stanning nonsense back to the PopGaf thread.
