The Fool Who Follows Her
I called up the Best Buy that is closest to my house (which is an hour away) and they said they had all models in stock. I drove down there and they were all sold out by the time I got there. :(

no dude you shut the fuck up now, stop posting and get your ass back on the japanese street life…its your holiday and you should not use it to post on a message board :O :)

Hey, I haven't followed this thread and I know next to nothing about the iPad and Apple's other touch screen products, so pardon a dumb question:

I see there's no case or cover...will the screen get scratched as you tote this thing around with you from day to day? And does the screen get covered in fingerprints as you use it?

Besides, they produce Check, Please! Bay Area. Great radio, great tv.

Can you take screen shots like you can with the iPhone & iPod Touch?

I'm posting this... from my iPod Touch :( It doesn't feel cool anymore :((
Anyway, I'd love to see some pics of that app with the elements. They previewed it on that night show with the Engadget guy and it looked so damn awesome. The F1 app also looked out of this world, even if I don't like F1, :lol

I have yet to scratch my iPhone in anything more than a minor matter - that is including two bicycle wipeouts and the fact that I keep it in the same pocket as my wrench and keys.

And use it as a bottle opener.

The Apple store here has a long ass line just to get inside. However, the line to buy one is almost non-existant. Only like 4 people. I could buy one a lot quicker and return it than wait in that other line. Honestly, it is tempting. :D

So I was planning to copy my go to Party playlist from my iTunes to the iPad, but it appears to be gone from my iTunes. It still exists on my iPhone, but I can't copy the playlist over.

All the music is in iTunes, so that shouldn't be the problem, it's just the playlist info that I want copied over. Is there any free way to do this, keeping in mind that my Senuti free trial is long over?

Just experienced the same thing. It feels so, very, tiny.
I think that you guys won't be alone in feeling this way.
With the iPad, Apple has managed to knock their portables down a bit and relegating them to a portable experience. iPhone has become "iPad to go", and it feels like iPad SHOULD have been the product that came out first. From a design point of view, it feels like Apple designed iPad first then made the iPhone afterwards based on this forward-thinking design, knowing a bitchin' phone would be easier to get into peoples hands than a tablet with the same concept.

so I take it interface lag has been somewhat reduced (edit: in comparison to the iPhone/Touch)?

like, that keyboard would sometimes lag to hell in third-party apps or Safari. Is this still the case?

Comic Zeal update! After using it so more (and after a nap) I notice that it does have a slight page transition effect. It isn't fancy like the iBook books, but it is there. Just a bit of a "wipe" I guess. Also, the delay when changing pages when using CBRs isn't that bad. Worth getting to keep them in full quality and not re-compressed.

Some images, with full quality links.

Whats the score with iPhone & iPad Apps.

Can devs make them work on both (noticed some of my iPhone Apps are dual)?
But they can also make a whole separate app you have to buy for the iPad?

& all iPhone Apps (that don't need the phone specific APIs) work natively with upscaling?

Macworld review is up for anyone who cares.

Wow, they say that everyone's who's had it for a week or so says the battery life is even longer than the advertised 10 hours. That's pretty impressive, I thought that would work out to a real-world 6 hours or so for sure.

Charging issues explained: http://www.macworld.com/article/150356/2010/04/ipadcharging.html?lsrc=rss_main

1. For the fastest charging, use the iPad’s included 10-Watt USB power adapter. This will fully charge the iPad in a few hours, even if you’re using the iPad at the same time.

2. When connected to a high-power USB port—such as the ones on recent Macs and the iPhone Power Adapter—the iPad will charge, even during use, but more slowly. (We haven’t yet determined how much more slowly.) Some third-party powered USB hubs provide higher-power USB ports, but many don’t; similarly, the USB ports on most Windows PCs don’t provide this additional power.

3. When connected to lower-power USB ports—those on older Macs, most Windows PCs, and most USB hubs (powered or unpowered)—the iPad’s battery is not charged while the iPad is awake, but is charged (again, slowly) when the iPad is asleep. What’s confusing here is that the message Not charging appears in the menu bar when the iPad is awake, which might lead you to assume that the offending USB port can never charge your iPad. But rest assured, Apple says: once you put the iPad to sleep, the battery will indeed charge. (If you could see the screen while the iPad was asleep, it might even display the charging icon. It’s the modern-day “Does the refrigerator light stay on when I close the door?” mystery.)

In short: Windows users can charge it through USB, but only when it's asleep.

Damn comic zeal and the iBook app would by themselves justify the price for me. Must be strong and wait for 2nd gen....strength fading....

How did you post the screens to the web?

I just e-mailed them to myself and then uploaded them to one of my websites from my PC. I'm guessing I could probably setup a blog and then I could just upload them directly through a blogging app on iPad. Don't have all that ready just yet though, and wanted to share some images.

I especially like the little comic boxes for each series and the bookmarks to let you know you've started reading an issue.

Not somewhat. Greatly. Makes what was already frustrating on the iphone, more stark by comparison. The many videos around the web of the ipad are no exaggeration. It's very snappy. Next iphone will, fingers-crossed, have a similar improvement

Yes, so-called universal apps. And yes, they can make ipad-only apps. Essentially, the ipad is backwards compatible.

Hold down both the on/off button and the Home key. Saves the photo to the photos app.

Yeah I'm giving up. There's always a better one. Just set an upgrade path of once every 2 years if you feel the need to wait.

Just get one! </devil on left shoulder>

Just to torture those of you without an iPad -- after using the Weather Channel app you will never want to check the weather any other way. Seriously.

Goddamn it I'm weak... wanted to hold out for a 3G model, but called up my local Best Buy and as soon as they said "in stock" I was out the door...

They still had quite a few units, from the looks of it... but none of the Apple branded case. :(

Yeah I was trying to hold out for
the 3g to but when my buddy at best buy told me they had a couple left I walked out the door. Sitting in my car with my new 32gb. Lol. Too bad I have to hook it up to iTunes to play with it. :(( I passed on the official case, it doesn't look good... Am I the only person that thinks it's ugly?

Thing is...I went with iPhone 1st gen, Nano 1st gen, core 2 duo Macbook 1st gen, ps3 60 gig first gen (the one time it worked out in retrospect only because Sony both fixed with firmware while taking away from new models). Just tired of feeling like I need something on day one. Especially with Apple, who usually tend to listen to complaints and fix hardware issues with revisions (iPhone headphone adapters, cheap backing, pricing, etc).

Seeing this and the Marvel app, I really want to see what someone like Chris Ware could come up with if he did a piece specifically for this kind of presentation.

You now belong to FMT.
.......... those pics from above are killing me.

with the new iphone coming out.. i should just wait until that is released and decide on just getting the new iphone or getting an ipad... ugh

I'm confused.

iFixit, who I gather have a good reputation and a fair bit of experience with Apple hardware (understatement) now claim that following their teardown that the iPad has 512MB RAM, 256MB on each die, what do they mean by each die, I only see an A4 (The Processor), where's the seperate DRAM chip with the other 256MB on their pics?

Well, I ended up getting one from Best Buy.

...and it's one of the best tech devices I've ever purchased. Amazing.
