Xenoblade 2 confirmed for Holiday 2017

wasn't talking about you, sorry if I wasn't clear
but as a general reaction to Xeno reveals (Wii and Wii U, now Switch) that very often/always have had this "OMG the world is amazing/OMG the characters are awful" reactions

No, I know what you meant. I was just stating my specific reactions to the art over the series.

Monolith Soft now officially has one Nopon employee, Monopon.

So what about Riki and Tatsu, company friends? lol

Late to say so, but I'll happily eat crow. Glad to see them make launch year with it after showing it at the launch reveal. I didn't think they would, and was a pretty firm Early 2018.

true, but the fact that the character art and world design is so different between xenoblade 1 and 2 makes me think they should not have called it Xenoblade 2, and maybe something else entirely, a new IP maybe

Plus, Nintendo having this kind of over the top anime in their games is very doubtful, not something i usually expect from Nintendo

If Final Fantasy can drastically change between iterations with only a few series wide holdovers, why can't Xenoblade?

Because xenoblade is not final fantasy. Infact you expect differently from xenoblade because the xenogames have been different according to title(gears, saga and now blade), and they even differentiated a spin on it by specifically calling the spinoff title "X"

Calling something like this xenoblade "2", even though people liked Xenoblade 1 specifically because of its specific worldbuilding, asthetic and characters basically negates every advantage of using the title outside of a cynical brand name ploy.

It might as well be called xenoblade 3 with xenoblade X being called xenoblade 2 if they didn't care about making the games connect in any way.

I may be wrong but except by few exceptions, almost all JRPG series change art direction, settings, worldbuilding, etc. with each iteration.

The exceptions being Dragon Quest and SMT. And in SMT we've seen that Kazuma Kaneko is not doing the character designs of the new games anymore.

If they didn't put the Xenoblade 2 title in the trailer, I would have thought it is some generic JRPG that no one cares about.

Kunihiko Tanaka(did xenogears, XCX and saga 1) yeah he has a lot of questionable art. Somehow some reigned him in for XCX and gears though, mostly.
Eh, his art is for the most part pretty damn tasteful/restrained.

Xenoblade is a new franchise, so I don't think there really are any "rules" in terms of naming conventions.
Exactly.

If X didn't indicate that, this game certainly does.

Watching footage again, I just noticed child character we don't get a good look at is a robot (girl?). They have robotic hands and rocket feet. You can see them holding and flying with the Nopon here.

You can see her walking funny for a second here.

I wonder if it means each character has a special ability we can use while exploring. Like using Nia riding the tiger to travel faster, or using the robot kid to explore more ground?

Don't have a Switch yet, but if I want to play in Japanese, can I switch the region of the Switch to Japanese or will I need to import the game?

I know they didn't mention anything about dual audio, but curious if I can avoid the whole import process altogether since it's kind of pricey.

Then again, maybe it's too early to be asking this question.

did anybody get persona/smt vibes from this?

we dont know how the worlds are connected, there are hints that even X and 1 are connected albeit loosely. seeing that this game heavily features titans may mean that it has some connection to the mechonis/bionis world

Robot kid was also in the Treehouse stream, he/she is Tora (the Nopon)'s Blade.

If this is considered "very good dub" I don't want to hear the bad ones.

you are hearing lines and dialog out of context. Lets wait and see how it sounds in game before writing it off. Lots of JRPGs sound like dogshit in trailers but fine in actual context in game. IIRC people freaked out for XCXs first look at its dub but it was fine in context (not as charming as the British dub but fine).

I really didn't like Chronicles X after I loved the original. This one looks great and I'm looking forward to it.

I liked it, but I didn't love it. Not sure about looks but absolutely sounds. All the tracks make me think "that's Xenoblade" you know?

It grew on me after seeing a few minutes of the Treehouse stream. I think I will like it! But that grass rendering though... It pops in right where you walk, I hope they fix that.

About porno for one last time (at least for me)

Near every (Japanese) artists draw some lewd pic from time to time for hobby or side jobs.
As for Saitom (Xenoblade 2), he doing it for living. I think that make him different from Tanaka that do 90% SFW/mainstream, same as Zelda 1 artist.

So freaking excited for this game, definitely day one for me.
Glad to see not everyone on here is whining about a jrpg being a jrpg at least.

I plan on getting a switch eventually, and this is game is one of the reasons why...but those voices...wow. I usually don't have an issue, but I can deal.

Watching it again there's really only one line I'd consider poorly read which would be the one where he goes "take this!".
I like the british dub. Sounds different from the typical anime stuff we usually get

It's mainly the shouting for me. Might be because I'm not used to it in that particular dialect (Yorkshire? I'm terrible with accents, my own (British accents) included) - but that's balanced out by having a British (semi British?) dub, just for the variety.

The way I read it, re Xenoblade naming conventions, is numbered entries will skew fantasy while the X series skews scifi.

Still holding on to hope we get a "Xenoblade X Complete" for switch in late 2018 (what the fuck else are Monster Games doing?) with all the cut content included and a bunch of UI improvements.

You must not have a good eye for world design, which is distinctly Xenoblade, and evident in just about every frame of the trailer.

Hopefully with a reworked combat system among the QOL changes that get implimented (come on Nintendo make X a TPS/RPG 90% of the framework is already there)

Also add in the base building stuff that was clearly cut. Like there's a massive gap in NLA that is never filled, and we had that ONE mission with the water plant....
