Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (Vita/ JRPG) announced for western release

Maybe you read what I wrote. I said it reminded them of the Vita because of the sales success it had in Japan.

Yeah, FFX HD did okay on Vita but is the 150kish JP sales enough to convince them there is a market for higher quality titles for the system? I am not that sure unfortunately.

Except it's actually a really off translation. "Over My Dead Body" in English is used when you're saying you will stop something from happening. The title of this game is someone telling their offspring to walk over their dead body and continue in their footsteps. It's a totally different connotation and I can't think of an English phrase that really properly captures it in few enough words to be a title.

I think if you look at it as subversion, it works really well. We only use that phrase figuratively in the west, but I think people playing the game blindly and finding out it's used literally here would make for a cool experience. :)

So who's localizing it? Lends a lot of credence to the theory that Victor Ireland's mysterious PSP title is the first Oreshika.

If I had to guess, 8-4.

Why not? It did similar numbers to the PS3, which has a much bigger user base.

I am fine with more ports which shouldn't be expensive to make. I also can't imagine so many other possible projects for SE that the opportunity costs would be so high that a Type 0 HD, FF XII HD etc. wouldn't be profitable.

Disagree, as someone that speaks both Japanese and English I think it's a really poor translation. Always have. I hope this official title makes people stop calling it that but I suppose it won't.

I only speak English, but I don't necessarily disagree. I do like the title they've got for the west. How do you think you'd translate it?

Really didn't expect this game to come out in the west.

Quick, somebody tell me if there is a Tengai Makyo somewhere on the japanese PSN, I've a wish to make :)

The same way they did. It's a tough one to translate, as I said I cannot for the life of me think of a title that would be appropriate while having the same meaning as the Japanese one. Obviously they had the same issue and didn't feel that "Over My Dead Body" was an appropriate title.

It is not. Vic said this today on Gaijinworks forum. "Now that this is finally public, I can praise the decision to bring it over. However, probably as a result of this, we weren't able to license the first one. Tried multiple times and failed."

Oreshika 2 was probably the game that he hinted some months ago here.

Yeah, unfortunate. But it's a good start. Maybe they'll let someone do the first one eventually.

Is there some sort of waifu action going on in this game? You can choose which dames to knock up?!

Based on the few hours that I spent with the PS1 version and PSP remake, the family is cursed to age faster and die in a few years. They also cannot reproduce (? Correct me if I'm wrong) so the only people they can reproduce with are deities. So you choose which ever family members you want to breed with deities (at some cost, more powerful deities cost more). There are both male and female deities and the leader of your family can be either male or female. You also forge heirloom weapon (s). Basically you build up your family by training, breeding and letting older members die and slowly make your way through the dungeons and plot. The actual character is the family itself, along with some immortal npcs.

What a great day for the Vita.

I'm so happy to see all these great titles announced for the system. I hope this is the start of many more JRPGs.

It actually sold over 250k on Vita in Japan, which is around the same ballpark as all of their PSP ports. That's impressive given it was a same day PS3 release.

I'm still in awe that the Vita is getting this kind of love. I never saw the PSP get that kind of support in the DS' prime.

This is correct. There also comes a point where some of your family members become powerful enough that you can consecrate them as gods too which leads to all sorts of icky pairings.

The heirloom weapons are only for swords, however, and they gain extra abilities patterned after their previous owner each time it gets passed down.

How long does it take to play through something like this?

Do we know anything about this game's gameplay?

Turn-based or action? Fully explorable world? Customization? Composer? Developer?

I don't think you need to "properly" capture it in this case. I think re-purposing the colloquialism to mean something different is a clever way of giving it a title that will stick with people. "Over My Dead Body: Tainted Bloodlines" requires no less explanation than "Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines" to actually understand the real meaning, but it's a hell of a lot more catchy. Agree to disagree I guess. In the end I'm just glad I'll get to play it.

You actually get to choose the difficulty level at the start. They affect exp points gained, enemy toughness and most importantly, probability of passing good/dud genes.

I'd say a good 30-40 hours is enough if you're playing normally and don't get OCD about getting the best stats and weapons.

Its a dungeon crawler with a little management thrown in. The developer is JAPAN Studio and Mars Project directed by Shouji Masuda.

Yeah, that's basically how I feel.

Nice. Standard length then.

I thought Alfa System developed it?

Thats what the website says apparently as pasted above.

Great news.

Looks like I bought the Japanese PSP release for nothing (thinking these games would never come here). :D

Now you have something to do till the game comes out lol

I went to download it but it's not on iOS yet. That's a first.

I was excited for this game until I got a real puppy. Then it sort of lost a lot of its charm.

The fact that the dogs even talk has killed any sort of charm the title had...

I thought it was a Japan Studio game. My bad. Its a Sony property though.

I'd like to think they're planning on doing it themselves if Tainted Bloodlines meets their expectations.
I guess being able to just release it digitally WOULD help. Or just update for Vita similar to DanganRonpa and like many of us hoped they'd actually do with Type-0 (and I do expect if this were the Square of another period they'd have gladly done so, but now they're just screwed up.)

I still dont see what the point would be considering everyone would be used to the nice PSV graphics leading to mass whining when they get stuck with PSP graphics. Would be a waste of resources personally.

Based on everything I've heard of and seen from Oreshika 2, it seems like a 1.5 release with 3D graphics. There really wouldn't be any point to re-release the PSP version (which is itself a remaster of the PS1 original) because it would play too similarly, only with more arcane gameplay and inferior (for them) graphics.

Welp, all this awesomeness seems to indicate Vita will be a no-show at Sony's E3 presentation, at least as far as new game announcements are concerned.

Not gonna complain when I get to play localized "Over my Dead Body"

I would reckon that Sony would have another presentation during the E3 showing off everything again to the public. Perhaps with concrete release dates also for the titles that are still listed as just 2014.
