That part about the first anime style show from America being marketed in Japan can't be true. They never got Avatar at all? Or those Marvel movies/shows?

Avatar got a partial dub at least, but I think it didn't finish, and in interviews Platinum said Korra is not airing in Japan.

Is RWBY actually popular? I tried watching the first episode but the voice acting was bad and the CG was super dodgy. Whole thing looked really bland.

Good music
Good character designs
Good fight scenes maybe sometimes

...uh did I mention the music?

Mostly more than the actual quality of the product, it's just important that it exists because American action animation is on life support, and the success of RWBY shows there's potential to escape from the network execs and investors and make an indepedent animation series online that has so much that would keep it from being made as a TV show nowadays, like a predominantly female cast, action focus, and serial storytelling. Certainly I wish I wasn't cringing constantly while watching it, but I'm glad it was made.

But I guess if you're just content to simply watch anime (like some kind of monster), then you can't sympathize with forcing myself to watch Korra and RWBY because they're American products that superficially have elements I like from anime.

RWBY's great. I've been keeping up with Monty and his work for a while, since Dead Fantasy and Haloid.

Hell, i'm assuming my thread flew by everyone. ;)

I couldn't get into it, apparently it did get really good later on but it just strung like most recent Rooster Teeth stuff as it just reminds me of their glory days

I'm really enjoying Aldnoah Zero so far. I mean its not the best series or anything but its definitely entertaining. I think it would be a good fit for Toonami. Main character has that perfect "Ichigo I don't give two shits" delivery but without any goofiness at all. Like Ichigo on ritalin.

I only liked RvB during the early days. Never got into it when they tried to make it super story driven with all the CGI.

I had a good response to this, but my computer reset and I lost it, so short version is

S1-5 great comedy series

S6-8 good comedy series with a bit more story focused that worked as a foil to the rvb silly ness and the cg was mostly used for looney toons esque scenes with the rvb team failing

S9-10 from what I remember were too serious trying to do the monty oum crazy action thing and focus too much on the freelancer story. Should have been a spinoff series or a completely separate story.

Never saw s11 or s12

I dunno why they would skip over the much better received Fate/Zero for Aldnoah (which is still fairly new).

That said it is fun to watch for all the wrong reasons. I already expressed my feelings about the series earlier. I am still desperately looking for JoJo dubbing news. It is killing me. That show NEEDS to be on Toonami as soon as AoT finishes.

Loli-ho!

I've only seen the first ep of RWBY and thought it was kinda meh. My gf really likes the series though so maybe it gets better down the line or something. Didn't even know it was that popular, but good for Rooster Teeth that it's going to Japan.

So...would Toonami getting Fairy Tail be bad? Just thought I'd ask as someone who knows little about it beyond it being another long-runner.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

It's bland and blah.
Basically, Hiro Mashima (the writer) really wanted to make One Piece. Only he has none of the talent, at least in the writing.

More like he tried to combine One Piece and Harry Potter without understanding why either worked. He's got a certain amount of talent, Rave got really good near the end, he just threw it all away in the persuit of cash.

That's a shame.
His art has definitely gotten better, even though half of it is fanservice that borders on porn. I wouldn't be surprised if his next series is Seinen.

I know a lot of people don't like it, but it does seem to be popular, so from a commercial perspective it wouldn't be bad.

The only long-running shonen that need to be on Toonami now are JoJo and Hunter x Hunter. Fairy Tail would just take a potential slot away from those two.

I like it, personally. Hell, another episode just came out.

It has its moments and I don't have a problem with it. Although, like people said, Hiro Mashima really tried to go for a One Piece look, he was motivated by it.

However, Hiro Mashima pulls more from Rave Master than he does from One Piece. Even then, I'd prefer another shonen on Toonami.

Btw, adding onto the list of possible shows, doubled up Uncut Naruto is a possibility too. ;)
