Sword Art Online is just the next level of villain in the shonen battle anime that is ToonamiGaf

We can defeat it with the power of friendship

You guys can't really see this but mods are recently (seemingly) more likely to delete - and sometimes ban for - posts that imply 'jzzing' or bonerz and such. Both because of the the annoying nature of the reply and the mental imagery.

I will refrain from posting that

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Sword Art Online Episode 11: The Girl of Morning Dew

In which the real glitch is in emotions.exe

Okay so Kirito and Asuna are apparently married now and have this nice little cabin by a lake. For some reason they still try to play the "oh no I'm embarassed, did you hear me whispering that I loved you" card even though the characters are married and sleeping together. Asuna asks the dude if he wants to have fun and he's like "didn't we have fun yesterday and the day before?"

Dude, what?

BUT ANYWAY apparently fun is off the table so Kirito wants to take Asuna on a walk through the forest. Asuna decides she wants to ride on his shoulders but she'll totally murder Kirito if he accidentally looks up her skirt in the meantime.

They go to the forest and Kirito tells a ghost story and suddenly there's the ghost, but it's actually just a little girl who passes out and is apparently a player but doesn't have any of the usual UI indicators. They take her home, Asuna snuggles up to sleep next to this random girl they found in the forest, and when she wakes up the little girl can't remember anything. She "adorably" can't seem to pronounce their names correctly, so when Kirito says she can call them whatever is easy, she immediately settles on "Daddy" and "Mommy" for these two people she's known for exactly two minutes.

yDFga1a.gif

Anyway, there's some transparently emotionally manipulative "family" stuff, none of which really works, before Kirito and Asuna decide to take the girl back to the starting village to see if they can find her family. There they run into some army guys shaking down some kids and their teacher for money and equipment. Asuna knocks the army leader over a couple times and he and his buddies freak the fuck out even though Asuna explicitly points out that she can't actually hurt them in a safe area, and the army guys run away. For some reason.

Then the kid starts pointing at the sky and talking about everyone's hearts, and how she was never here, just in the darkness, then she starts visibly glitching out as the episode ends.

This is not a good television show. The "Mommy and Daddy" stuff feels unbelievably forced, all the "check out how in love these two are" moments don't really work, especially since Asuna still occasionally acts like she's still in the "it's not like I really like you b-baka" era of the relationship. I might be sort of interested in the story about this girl if the show wasn't too busy forcing all this SEE IT'S LIKE SHE'S THEIR KID ALMOST stuff down your throat to actually establish a compelling mystery beyond a basic amnesia plot.

This is probably telling, but the thing offending me about that sentence is the writing is so bad. Like it is painful to me that writing that bad has been published and has made any kind of money, I am literally offended.

A) I REFUSE to believe that sentence was published anywhere at anytime

B) Fuck you LOLDSFAN :(

To be fair, the sentence wasn't in English originally

That said, my non-existent Japanese tells me the line was probably fucking stupid in its original language.

I suppose I may as well ask this here. I've been put in charge of creating an OT for a show, my first one, and I hear that there's a rule that OTs can't be made before the actual start date anymore. Is this true?

Right, can be posted the day before at earliest.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Sword Art Online Episode 12: Yui's Heart

In which Kirito and Asuna "lose" "their" "child"

So we open with an orphanage full of kids and little Yui seems fine now. A woman from the army comes, apologizes for the idiots from last week, and asks for Kirito and Asuna's help in rescuing someone. Apparently the dumb anti-beater guy from early in the series has been a real asshole and trapped the army's current leader in a secret dungeon beneath the first floor that changes as higher floors are cleared.

So they go down into the Temple of the Ocean King, bringing along this little helpless child into an area with high level monsters for no reason. Suddenly a big scythe wielding monster appears and is about to kill both Kirito and Asuna, when surprise the little girl isn't helpless at all! She's an "immortal object" and summons a big fire sword to kill the monster.

Turns out she's actually like... an AI program that's supposed to be helpful for the psychological state of players? Unfortunately baby Deanna Troi here got banned from interacting with the players on day one and so she's just been watching as people went crazy.

But then one day she saw two people unlike ANYONE ELSE IN THE GAME, and it was their peace, happiness and love that drew her attention. Yep, it was Kirito and Asuna. No one else in two years has ever displayed those emotions I guess. This somehow allowed her to glitch her way into the forest to observe them and blah blah blah.

But now the Master Control Program is going to delete her for accessing GM powers in order to slay the monster in the dungeon, so it's time for a really tearful goodbye to Mommy and Daddy and really this is kind of tiring. Like, it doesn't have the impact the show wants to give it because they literally met this girl in the woods yesterday and they're going "mommy and daddy" and "you're our child" and all this.

Oh and then Kirito jumps on the temporarily accessible GM controls and makes it so Yui is turned into an in-game item (Yui's Heart) rather than deleted. (Maybe use it to set the floor 100 state to "cleared" instead?) Then they both promise to never forget "their first child" and Kirito's gonna save her to his SD card later and this is really dumb.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
when I first started watching it was just kind of.. average? not really bad but not interesting either?

as things go on stuff seems to make less and less sense and the show keeps trying to create drama with relationships that it never actually took the time to establish

The only place that could show The Eclipse uncut on TV would be something like HBO.
I'm watching the anime right now. Well, trying to (once I find the other DVDs), and I keep hearing about the "eclipse", which is making the wait harder.

I do intend to read the manga, but I already had the first two DVDs, so I thought I might as well start there. I finished the first nine episodes in about two days. Now I wait until I buy the rest.

I'm really liking it so far.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Sword Art Online Episode 13: Edge of Hell's Abyss

In which the characters finally remember the main plot

So the first half of this episode is some light hearted stuff with an old guy who is really good at fishing. He hangs out with Kirito and Asuna and then they all take on the lake's big old fish, which Asuna one-shots when it climbs up on land. Honestly this stuff isn't that bad.

Then Heathcliff texts them to remember the main plot of the whole series and they leave, but not before saying goodbye to the older guy and having Asuna go on for a while about how great Kirito is. Anyway, they get back to the guild and apparently there's a boss that completely wiped out a scouting party and no one knows what happened, so they're pulling together a bunch of people to fight it. There's stuff in here where they actually remember that they have bodies outside the game and they're probably all in a hospital somewhere, and Kirito and Asuna talk about how much they mean to each other etc.

Then Kirito, Asuna, the Knights of the Blood Oath, That One Black Guy, and Kirito's Other Friend, along with a bunch of redshirts, go in to face the boss. it's a big skeleton centipede reaper creature (this show sure loves its scythes) and there's a big fight. Episode ends as Kirito and Asuna do some kind of chrono trigger dual tech with their three swords.

Honestly... this one wasn't that bad. The romance stuff between Kirito and Asuna still doesn't ring true at all, Asuna has way too much of her self worth tied up in Kirito, and there's still too much time wasting outside the main plot, but at least they're back down to it now. Heathcliff looks like an actual badass tank, which is cool to me because I love doing the sword and shield thing in RPGs.

I only liked DBZ out of all of those, but I really like the artstyle for that new Digimon show, so I think I'll try that out.

Wow, who ever thought using Netflix would be nostalgic.

I've only watched disc 1 of the anime so I never got around to seeing the supernatural fantasy portion.

At this point, I should consider the Following as the SAO of live-TV and Destiny the (somewhat) SAO of video games.

And I wonder if 1/4th of a bottle of Brandy will be enough to survive 30 minutes this Saturday...

Episode 4 where that shitty guild got murdered was the funniest moment of our group watch.
HEY KIRITO. SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHY YOU'D WAIT MONTHS, LET ALONE SPECIFICALLY AT XMAS TO LISTEN TO THIS MESSAGE AFTER YOU GOT US KILLED, BUT I'LL HUM YOU A XMAS SONG.

Wow Sword Art Online is that awful, huh?

I watched the sub the summer before it aired on toonami and then watched the dub with everyone here. The first time through I thought it was alright, and while I noticed a lot more bullshit in the second watch, still thought it was mediocre. A lot of people will tell you it's the worst thing they've ever seen but I'm sure there's some moe bullshit out there that is 10x worse than SAO. The action scenes are pretty cool and I don't mind the power fantasy/waifu master aspect as much as others. I'd say give the first 3 episodes a shot and then make a call.

I only saw a brief glimpse of one episode, and there was a tentacle monster, or something. Seemed...eugh?

You walked into hands down the worst moment of the series. Tentacle rape went too far in my opinion; everything else up until then was funny at best and creepy or nonsensical at worst.

Ehhh...Sailor Moon has been horribly animated and I've kinda fallen off the wagon. I'm about 10 episodes behind and have zero motivation at this point to catch up. Yu-Gi-Oh! was okay at its best and only during its original run. I haven't been interested in anything related to Digimon since its second season.

The only thing up there that I'm truly excited about is DBZ, and mostly because it's another Toriyama story and the return of what should have been the most powerful being in the universe before Jump had him write two more story arcs so they could make more money. At least we did get Cell out of that deal.

There is undoubtedly worse anime than sao. But SAO is still bad!

There were probably only two action scenes in all of SAO where I was actually impressed enough to be like "okay, sao, at least you can do this one thing right". I think it was one flying battle that was surprisingly well choreographed.

Chaos;head is undoubtedly the worst anime series I have ever seen. Luckily, I severely doubt we'll have any chance of that landing on Toonami.

I almost misread tihs as Steins;Gate because of the semicolon, but yes, holy crap did Chaos;head bore the hell out of me. & I stopped watching it before the final episode because I just didn't care.

You have any clue whether or not the VN is the same with how bad it is? I didn't see the anime, but I'd at least hope the VN follow-up to one of the best modern sci-fi stories would at least be interesting.

I'm also holding out hope that we'll get the new Steins;Gate novel at some point in time...

Edit: Oops...Robotic;Notes is the follow-up to SG, but all exist in the same "universe". My bad.

Chaos;Head came out like 2 years before Steins;Gate.

I think most people have said that the VN is better whenever the anime is brought up. I remember asking people the same thing when that Chaos;Child game was announced/teased.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Sword Art Online Episode 14: The End of the World

In which the show ends I guess

Episode opens with the group beating that boss from last episode. Apparently 14 people died. People start despairing because there are still 25 floors left, when Kirito notices that Heathcliff's HP still never dropped out of the green. He swiftly attacks Heathcliff, stabbing him with his sword...

IMMORTAL OBJECT

Welp.

So apparently it turns out that Heathcliff is actually the guy who created SAO and locked them all in this virtual world. Because as Kirito says "Nothing is more boring than just watching someone else play an RPG," which is what the audience has been doing this whole time so thanks for telling us your anime is boring I guess. The reason Heathcliff is so badass is that he was literally cheating. So Heathcliff paralyzes everyone except Kirito and challenges him to a duel right here right now, with the immortality disabled, and if he wins the game is cleared. Kirito says goodbye to everyone and makes Heathcliff promise to I guess change the game so it's impossible for Asuna to commit suicide after he dies. She cries about how that's not fair.

Kirito fights hard but is about to lose, before Asuna manages to jump in front of him at the last second and take the killing blow to save him. Despite the fact that she was paralyzed. Tearful goodbye, then Asuna dies/shatters like everyone in SAO. Heathcliff says "well never seen a player just randomly un-paralyze themselves but I guess things just happen sometimes". Kirito weakly tries to attack Heathcliff again, picking up Asuna's sword instead of his broken one, and gets stabbed in the gut for his trouble. Kirito's HP goes to zero, the UI tells him he's dead and he shatters...

Then he just says "not yet" and the pieces re-form into a like a force ghost or some shit and he uses Asuna's sword to kill Heathcliff.

Because apparently willing yourself back to life is a thing you can do in this game.

Fuck.

Anyway, then Kirito and Heathcliff both shatter. Game cleared.

The world starts dissolving, and Kirito and Asuna find themselves on some kind of plane above the game world, with the game's creator. The players who were alive have woken up, but the dead people are still dead because people die when they are killed. I mean, except Kirito apparently. They have some kind of conversation where they try to make the villain sympathetic way too late, talking about some dream he had about a castle in the sky, then he disappears. Kirito and Asuna have more tearful goodbyes as they prepare to die, they tell each other their real names for the first time, and the world ends as everything fades to white...

Kirito wakes up in a hospital bed hooked up to IVs and stuff, with his body looking frail. He stands up, says "Asuna", and starts walking out of the hospital. A hospital in which no one is around including doctors or nurses, and there is no activity despite thousands of people suddenly awakening from comas. He walks down the hallway to find his lost love as the credits roll and the music plays.

So stupid. So, SO stupid.

It's like they forgot the main plot for like ten episodes and went "well shit let's just end it this guy is the final boss gooooo".

And then had a bullshit self-resurrection scene despite the fact that if you remember the show has previously established a one-time use resurrection item that you can use within ten seconds of death, and Klein had the item.

Apparently there are more episodes after this soooo, I guess next we find out if Kirito finds his bae.

Basically SAO's first book covered episodes 1-2, and then the final 5 focusing mostly on the main story only taking a side step for the Kirito/Asuna love plot. The second book were side stories expanding on Kirito's journey in SAO and were adapted in episodes 3-8 iirc.

oh right I keep forgetting

that said

even if you cut out the middle it's still a really stupid plot.

Of course, its one of the dumbest things ever created by a human. And not only did it get a second season but the books are ongoing so season 3 is an inevitability

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Another reminder that Accel World is a way better story than SAO, and in terms of anime, has a better artstyle aswell.
