Xenoblade 3D |OT| Is that a Monado in your pocket or are you just really feeling it?

I love this battle system so much.

I got a full party and then instead of going on with the story I'm going back to kill challenge monsters. Not steamrolling those quite yet!

Challenge monsters must die horrible deaths.

I recall getting my ass handed to me by one not realizing what it was....

sounds good. what about "valuable" goods that enemies drop. They dont seem to fill any collection stuff or anything else.
Some needed for quests but also useful for trading.

You don't really need money for anything but arts books, by midway you'll be drowning in cash.

Man I am really loving this game. It feels so massive too, on such a small system. I may have fallen in love, I am gonna be spending countless on this, I can already tell.

Yeah, despite the blurriness and aliasing it's definitely a showcase for the New XL. Can't imagine this running on an old 3DS.

Once I make it to gaur plains. Is there no way to travel back to c9 with out walking through the entire cave again first? It doesn't seem I can fast travel?

Open the map from the menu (first icon after pressing x). You can choose which zone to go to from there, including directly to c9.

Damn though - In 3D mode I feel like my eyes are burning after a short session (Odd, since I can take 3D just fine in every other game), but if I play in 2D I can't help but feel that something is missing.

Also, if the decrease in resolution brought anything positive, it's that faces look a bit more natural and in place than they did on the Wii.

And honestly, there is one major advantage this has over Dolphin Xenoblade... In that in my experience with Dolphin, it takes fucking FOREVER to load games. Yeah, I'd personally take Xenoblade On Demand very much over waiting through the Commodore 64 tier loading times to play it in HD. And that's discounting me having to excavate for my DS4 and making sure Dolphin's not messing up my inputs as usual.

I love the battle system but I fucking suck at healing and keeping my team mates alive. I'm at the very beginning level 7 and I'm taking on these Level 8 toad type things, I'm going ok until a bunch of other shit shows up and my puny healing spell isn't enough or I just forget to heal.

Other than that I'm really impressed with this game. I'm glad I got the digital release because it loads great but regret not getting the physical release because it might be rare in the future.

Here's a list of materials that are OK to sell. Not sure if it's 100% accurate but I used it every once in a while and didn't notice anything particularly off. Generally speaking, it's OK to sell the materials with a small bag as the icon because they're generally the common wooden box drops. Don't sell the collectibles though unless you have a ton of each. You never run out of inventory space for those.

Anyone know if there's a more definitive but spoiler-free list of materials needed for quests? Maybe I'll try compiling one if there isn't...

I don't know why the text is so blurry. I can deal with other stuff looking somewhat bad, but the text is really ugly.

I think some people mentioned earlier in the thread that they didn't redo any of the text or tutorial screens, they just shrink the Wii ones down to 3DS size. So since they were originally intended to be viewed on a television and in double the resolution they look blurry.

3:30hrs later, damn. So glad I bought my n3DS for this. By the way I am going to side with those that praise the VA, it sounds so much more natural, and grounded than most RPGs. I'm liking the cast so far, and the heart-to-heart talks are a great addition. I have barely scratch the surface of the game, and it already feels like I am actually part of a living, breathing world. It's been a while since a game grabbed me this quick, it all just clicked as it came.

Geeze the gameplay graphics arent too great, cutscenes are okay. Still glad I bought it. Xenoblade is one of my favorite RPGs.

For first timers, there is a Monado power that increases defense called armor, you get it a bit later in the game via side quest. Its a bit broken which is why its a late game optional ability but I know I was one of those players wanting to know why I had no defense buff moves earlier on in the game.

The game looks great on new 3ds, I'm very impressed. I don't get the complaints. I even zoomed in on the models I got, and they look good to me

Yeah, but you've got some crazy opinions when it comes to the graphics of Nintendo exclusives. :p

That being said, it's still pretty impressive considering the scale.

I'm also biased since this is one of my favorite games of all times. But, of course it's not the prettiest game ever, wasn't on wii and it isn't here. But it looks pretty darn good for it to fit on this screen, I can't believe they manged to get it on this little cartridge. Point is, it's not atrocious or horrible as others have said, I would say that extreme it's way more off point

And hey, I judge by my eyes, I look at games like bayo 2, mk8 etc and they look wonderful, I would never take things like that back, I just don't focus on omg jaggies, but what if on another console etc. Totally not a graphics whore, if it looks good, it looks good, and even if it doesn't that much then the game play it's what mostly matters regardless. Plus art direction doesn't hurt, a lot of these games have lot of color, love it

Anywayssssss, xenoblade, it's good to be back!

Fucking lord thank you. The only real set back this game has (despite how good it is otherwise and keeping the player in mind) is that the inventory space is really, really lacking.

Anyways. LOVING the 3DS version, a shame the 3D is so shallow (almost barely there at all is not exaggerating it for all but menus).

But I gotta say how happy I am that opening chests and menus and going into new locations doesn't mean I hear the Wii DISC READING SCRATCH NOISE all game long. xS

Ayyy, just made it to Gaur Plains. The scale still looks pretty good all things considered.

B-B-B-B-baby you ain't seen nuthing yet.
(braw braw~[/guitar noise])

Being honest though, (comment for Wii players more)
I thought Gaur was probably the best DESIGNED field and it's unfortuantely so early on

Depends on what you mean by design. Gaurs visual design was pretty striking, and its functional design was pretty strong as well. Although you wont be seeing a lot of it until many hours into the game.

I thought Satorl Marsh was cool, too. Hopefully that holds up as well. I only got about 40 hours in on my Wii save before tragically losing it, however, so hopefully there are still some nice surprises for me.

I just think it's got the most interesting layout. Ups, downs, tunnels, hideaways, ravines, cliffs, caves, and so on.

Satorl is lovely [at night] but a small pain in the ass. For whatever reason I get lost there all the time. :S Also too much kinda slogs your walking so it's not somewhere I like going... oh, and visiting that stupid Nopon in his cave.

If you hit the 40 hour mark, I'm still happy to say there's a ton of good coming up. I don't think the game was ever redundant in HOW it designed each main area, they're all unique and fascinating in some way.

I first got to the marsh during mid day, and was really dissapointed. It was bland and colorless, and the fog wasnt helping at all.

But then... The night came.

Oh yeah, its pretty strong there. But I have to give the crown for that to Valek mountain and its crazy ice physics exploration playground.

Haha I remember that happened to me too. x) The music is, pun not intended, like night and day as well. The morning just sounds groggy, hostile, and uninviting whereas the night time theme sounds almost the exact opposite.
I actually kinda like riding out the day time cycle so night time feels that much more better by comparison.

They totally just said 'fuck it' here and made it awesome.

Have played for an hour and a half. Just got to where I can play as Fiona or Shulk. I've mostly killed low level things for the fun of it. But anything above level three seems to kill me. I may have also died to a pack of rabbits. So it is fun, but I've got a bit to learn it seems.

On another note, this is the ugliest game I've played on my 3DS. The 3D also doesn't exist. But it plays fun so who the frick cares.

Well, thats Xenoblade. It was also the ugliest, prettiest game on wii.

Just got through the first major story part of the game.

I knew what to expect going in but it's much different when you are actually playing instead of watching someone play.

Also shirtless Shulk in my cutscenes adds the comic relief in spades. He's so resolute and then he's shirtless too.

4 hours in so far with a lot of walking around places. Feels like a good spot to stop for tonight!

Just finished an 11 hour straight play session. I honestly didn't want to stop but had to force myself to put it down. Just made it too the second level of Bionis' knee. But wow Gaur Plains is kind of annoying to navigate, it's so huge but there's only like 4 landmarks so it takes forever to get anywhere.

I actually really grew attached to the character art by the end and I liked that it didn't do too bad a job reflecting the actual art work.... unlike, arguably, Kunihiko Tanaka's art kind of translating strangely into 3D (as seen in Xenoblade X and Xenosaga Ep I where they're basically all cheek ).

Get used to it, there's a lot of places in the game where the absence of a death penalty is made up for by how far things are from landmarks.

I died without looting chests and came back about 25 minutes later and they were still there! That is a fun little thing I didn't know about.

Word to those here who are still on the fence about this.

Get this. If you like Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age gameplay you will like this as it is very similiar (IMO), and even if you don't find yourself partial to the gameplay or anything about the game, get this for the sake of this being a piece of history. It's the most scalped game of all time, might as well experience it now that it's actually possible to experience it through legal means.

Also it makes a nice tech demo for the n3DS.

So overall my thoughts currently:

+ Positives

Best Controls (Best Gameplay, and nice placement for buttons once your used to them in the first hour or two. Clearly the best version of the game control-wise.)

Great Sound (It blasts through my 3DS and everything sounds great, never experienced something like this in a 3DS game. This Sound does the Soundtrack so much justice.)

Huge Overworlds Transition awesomely on the New 3DS.

Great Camera functions ( A ton of options on how to adjust the screen overall, all of which are easy to do in game and battling. Zooming in and out helps out a ton appearance wise for the game, all while being a huge convenience to the player.)

Easy to put time in the game due to portability (It's easier to close the game and come back to it now with the portability. It's a game with a lot of content and time that will be spent, at least now we can take it to school, work, in the car, plane, and so on. So we won't be wasting our lives stuck down in one place playing the game. We need to feel free of the living room until Xenoblade X comes out and steals the outside world away from us. ;D)

Awesome Menu Screen

- Negatives (Pretty much all graphic-wise, as to be expected being 3DS and all.)

Crushed Textures (The textures are too crushed in some aspects and very nice in others. In my opinion the removal of a lot of these textures would had made the game look a lot more clean and would had made some objects look better because of it. This has to be the biggest complaint about the game for me is just how crushed the textures are. Making the graphics look very bad despite the New 3DS able to produce very good models. This seems just like the old N64 Vs PS1 comparisons, the N64 had better models, and the PS1 had better textures, and the PS1 overall looked better because of it.)

Blur everywhere (Shulk's hair being the worst offender as you spend half the game looking at his face. The game is weirdly inconsistent with this as some objects become magically sharper then others. I think this has to do more so with texture then anything.)

The huge Overworld is too big for even the XL screen. (While this is remedied somewhat by the amazing Camera controls, this game simply needs that huge screen to get the full effect of the world's huge open world beauty. You will notice how limited you are in this aspect when you point the camera upward and notice just how much detail your missing of the sky, of what's far away, and everything around you. This also has more to do with the 3DS's choice to have a more full screen screen then a wider screen. The game is crushed on the screen, and then crushed again by the view of your vision on the full new 3DSXL's screen. While the port wasn't going for amazing graphics this still takes away one of the greatest pillars of this game, the atmosphere.

You're still in the wrong thread. I don't know why you're going into Xenoblade threads to ask about a system-related issue.

I'll copy my reply from the other thread to which you haven't responded:

This was the only game save I'm really worried about and I didn't want to make a thread just for this question. Since the game is only available for New 3DS I figured people posting here would have experience with card transfers. Sorry if the off topic question bothered anyone.

Unfortunately it looks like my save is gone. I copied everything when I swapped the cards, and the file number was the same both times I copied and pasted the folders. Not sure what I could have done wrong.

Not a huge deal anyway, I'll probably put this on the backburner for a couple days before I run around the town again though.

The Mechonis Theme for the home screen is phenomenal.

It is the first theme that I have bought that I thought was worthy of replacing Ballad of the Goddess.

It's impressive for the platform but textures were all 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the originals on Wii which I felt were already too low-res. The faces on the models are insanely blurry here. Look at their eyes. The facial textures aren't even as sharp as those used in Rockman Dash/Mega Man Legends on PlayStation. Honestly, I feel they should have sacrificed something else to pull off sharper facial textures as it really hurts narrative sequences right now.

World textures are also much lower resolution and foliage was cut back.

I also think second screen usage is awful and I dislike how so many UI elements appeared to be ripped straight from Wii and aren't properly scaled for the screen. Also, mipmaps use nearest neighbor filtering which...is odd. I suppose it helps give the impression of sharper textures at a distance but it can look weird.

Still, considering the platform, it's a very impressive port overall and works well where it counts. Loading is super fast, frame-rate is mostly steady, and it plays well.

The textures look great from the intended distance, but yeah the compression artifacts in some textures are really noticable up close, while others look pristine, and the lego sized pixels of the new xl arent helping any.

I really dont think monster attempted to directly alter any assets. (Scared maybe?) I mean if they did, youd think the ui would be one of the first ones altered. Its like they just compressed the hell out of them until they could fit it on the cart.... And then stopped, leaving some textures with heavy block artifacting, and others completely untouched.

Really wish Nintendo had unsealed the 6Gb cart for this one. Your analogy is spot on. The 3ds has the ram and the gpu on wii beat, but the media storage space is too small, having to compress that 6Gb game onto a 4Gb cart hurts.

The cpu still shows its limits, despite the 3ds pica having hollywood beat, those low power arm 11's are no match for that old 750, so the foilage is scaled back.

As for screen size issues... I think im already used to it. I guess i cut my teeth by doing a playthrough on the gamepad.

The only thing I'd have liked them to do is to over saturate the colours a little. Grass needs to be much greener on the bionis leg.

Any suggestions for settings and such?

Some people were talking about optimal camera settings? Ideas?

Also is there a way to mark a quest on the map to lead you to the location like it does with story quests? For example one quest asks me to defeat certain enemies on a beach. I have no idea where that beach is. Quest arrow would help.
