Keighley: Konami lawyers holding Kojima hostage; audience loudly boos. Inconceivable.

They were clearly purposefully refering to the game as a Kojima Pro joint, but I wasn't expecting him to just call them the fuck out like that. Brutal. That and the David Hayter comment from Raymond made it a slightly awkward night.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Guess that also explains why he wasn't at the Japan Playstation Awards. Konami wants absolutely nothing to do with him but will take his recognition for his work under them.

Scuzzy. Fuck them.

In all fairness why would Konami want a former employee to accept the award for their game? Granted it was Kojima's game, but it does make sense.

After the way they treated him, and the inside shit between the two of them we're not privy to, do you really think they want him on stage accepting an award for the game?

No worries; I'm sure he has one coming in the mail. I'm sure they will continue to exist as a Pachinko company, but I don't see them doing anything with games, unless it is strictly mobile.

But like if that was truly the case...isn't this a little harsh? There has to be more to it than just that, especially considering how much bad PR they've taken for the last few months, building up to tonight.
Pretty sure it's the case. They probably saw Kojima as a threat with his distinctly international, high-profile image. He could have easily become the CEO if shareholders were told to cast vote. They're trying to shitcan him hard and fast.

I wonder if Konami will have to make a public response.

This was an outright public execution in terms of reception for them.

I really have to know what the FLYING FUCK is going on in the heads of Konami's leaders.
They kill their entire company with moves like this and they don't seem to notice it at all.
I mean look at this company, this is a company that gave us some of the most recognicable IPs over the last 30 years. Games like Castlevania, Gradius, Contra, Metal Gear, not to speak of so many awesome licensed games back in the day like the Tiny Toon and Turtles games, the Simpsons Arcade game and so on.
They were a company that struck gold wherever it dug, now they're a company that thinks that dirt is gold and try to sell it as such when their customers actually see the dirt and wonder why the fuck they'd sell something like that.
Of course they had they're last big gold nuggets in the form of both MGS5GZ and TPP, but everything around that was bad decision making all the way.

Konami is pretty much dead to me at this point. This just doesn't make any sense anymore to support them. If they can't even treat they're own work force with the slightest amount of respect, how am I, a customer, supposed to think they will treat me?

I couldn't be anymore dissapointed in Konami than I am right now.

I keep thinking that one day Konami will have a whole bunch of firings and an apology from the ownership saying that the management was to blame. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure all of this is coming straight from the top.

Pretty sure? It was confirmed back in March or April this is exactly what happened. You really didn't read those articles.

that image has never been truer then now.

Kojima section should be in bold and punctuated TBH.

Come on, man. Kojima and MGS are one in the same. Even if there was a falling out, the guy who has been making games for you for years should be allowed to go and accept an award.

You would supise what people do for money and the bad PR hasn't done anything really both MGSV AND PES sold well.

What did Kojima do to get this type of treatment? Like is there any rumor?

Insubordination? Trying to take over the company from within? I mean like, there has to be another side to this...right?
They're trying to disassociate Metal Gear IP from him as he's leaving, with it being known as the "Hideo Kojima game", would look really bad when they announce a new one without Kojima being part of Konami. Of course it's having the exact opposite effect right now.

Fuck Konami. Props to Geoff for calling them fuckers out.

Kojima should have been there for his award.

I was joking about this all night since they kept referring to MGSV as a Kojima Productions game instead of a Konami game, didn't think we'd find this out tonight live on air. Best reporting I've seen Keighley do and props to him for doing that.

Fuck Konami.

He's still their employee, just a rank lower. And even then it doesn't change the fact he did direct the game for them. They could have demanded someone from their current dev staff to accompany him instead, and only the craziest people would be annoyed.
if they have current dev staff

Wow, Geoff didn't hold back - I thought it was gonna be a subtle jab, but he straight up called them out.

There is no next game. Of any type.

They are done with games.

So does the guy have some kind of illegal knowledge they want to keep the lid on that could seriously get them sued or something? I can't see anything else that would be worth spending money on lawyers and such to keep him quiet.

Because that employee is one of the most famous developers in the world, and well known for Metal Gear being his star creation.

It's Kojima, not some random employee. They had nothing to gain from barring him from accepting his award.

What existing ones? Do they have any? I guess they released Silent Hill Homecoming or something. Wasn't that like 2008? Rocket Knight Adventures too

I'm not sure if you're exaggerating, and it's pretty silly to believe that platform holders removing their games from their digital marketplaces is a plausible or reasonable idea, but they've released an arguably modest amount of games across most platforms over the past several years. There's at least 3 during 2015 on PS4 from what I saw at a quick glance, for example.

It's crazy they have that much control on him. Is this just a cultural difference or what?
