PSVR Price: $399/399/£349/¥44,980, no camera/move, launching October

Well this was the price I was expecting the rift, so can't complain too much. I still don't quite get the costing of these things for what is essentially a mobile screen and some sensors. I guess R&D comes into it as a major factor. But yeah, in the context of the Vive (lol) and The Rift (sigh) it really is pretty amazing. Move (ideally a new version) really should have been in the box for everyone though, now the user base is split so no one will bother.

Really excited by this and VR in general taking off, I really hope they release some conversion box to USB for the camera and open it up to PC's as well. Let developers play with it more and then they can make indie games for the PS4.

Need to get a hands on, its a long wait for the consumer version.

Way way way too early to declare that.

Well for the price it surely wins in UK/Europe and the install base is much higher that can actually use it.

Very hard for it to lose from this position, it will be the thing to get for christmas as well with some well placed bundles.

It doesn't. The camera is required, just not included.

That's what I thought. Strange, I'd think Sony would have just bit the bullet and included the camera at the same price to keep things from being complicated. Maybe some discounted bundles will be offered at retail.

The camera situation is, although a bit deceiving, actually pretty clever on Sony's part. This keeps the SKU's price down to something that looks much more reasonable, plus it doesn't screw people who already have a camera. Going to wait for more info on the Move stuff, although they've said the existing controllers would work. Hoping for a minor revision with stuff like micro USB or has added analog stick.

I'm sure if the base SKU included the camera, half the people in this thread would be complaining about being forced to buy something they already own :)
Basically.

Again, the camera's is pretty cheap, at less than 15$ to manufacture. They could have easily included it at 399$ and still have a good profit margin.
Dont try to excuse shitty moves.

Right. Can you give me a breakdown of how much profit they are making on the PSVR? I'd really like to read up on it.

They should probably have included that in the box, lol

Unless there are millions of people out there who already own the camera, omitting it doesn't seem like a smart move.

Don't know how many were produced at launch, but it was a bitch to find at launch. There's probably a good fair few out there, even just by going on playroom stream numbers.

I am going with the camera being added before launch. There is no way they dont do this.

Possibly. I think either having the camera in or out was going to piss off the group of people that already has them/doesn't have them. If they add it before launch without moving the price, they'd end up satisfying both camps.

So yeah, $500 if you don't have a Sony Kinect ... I mean camera...

So, is my diagram below correct?

If so, it's gonna be a wiring mess. There isn't even a USB port on the back of the PS4. :/

As long as they plaster the box of the standard version with signage that it does not include the required camera, sure.

I can see confusion otherwise.

I remember when I bought my move controllers, the assistant checked with me twice that I already had the PS3 camera. I think there'll be a lot of that going on again here... It's in the retailers interest to sell you more if you need it after all.

I was hoping it was packaged with the cam and motion controllers... But I don't care, I want still want it!!

Here's my big question: Can I use this at a computer desk, or will I not be able to because of the camera and Move controller? I can't use a Wiimote because I'm so close to a monitor.

For everyone complaining about the camera, if you really plan on purchasing PSVR that's not a problem. There are already plenty of people that picked up a camera already and you can just go and pick one up, I'm sure you can find one for a good price considering how long it has been on the market.

So wait, should I get 2 of the move controllers with the ball or should I get one of those and the other part with the joystick? Sony of lordy please answer my worries!

Have you used real VR? Like oculus yet? I am just asking. Because I dont really know of any people that have tried that say it is a gimmick. I can see if you used cardboard or something like that. But this isnt a gimmick. It will be around for along long long time.

In terms of non/semi interactive content it was a huge thing for me. But fully interactive stuff can be exhausting after a short time and a lot of people feel physically bad if there is too much movement involved. But I'm sure at least the latter will be solved sooner or later.

I don't see classical gaming concepts working in VR but rather things like dialogue based games or walking simulators. Something like a detective game that needs you to inspect a crime scene or something like the dinosaur demo from crytek. I enjoyed these kind of experiences more than any game with my DK2. It is not gaming per se but it's something new. But I guess I'm just stating the obvious here.

So this will be £399 in the UK?

Will my PS3 MOVE work with this? I already have the PS4 eye/camera.

If I pre-order can I cancel, I want to be one of the first but want to make sure there is the content.

This price is really only palatable in the context of the competition. On its own you're still paying $400 + $50 for a camera to get a device with no must play games. I was never interested in VR from the start, but Sony has done nothing to change my mind.

They should probably have included that in the box, lol

Unless there are millions of people out there who already own the camera, omitting it doesn't seem like a smart move.

There are probably already a million units out in the market, and due to that fact they can be bought for very cheap.

Good price, but not great. 450 euros with the camera is a bit steep for mass market. It won't sell like hot cakes, but it's a start.

I already have the camera, wtf would I do with another camera

I don't have one and I'm absolutely fine with buying one between now and fucking October for like 30 bucks lol. People are having absolutely bonkers ideas of how much this would go for, 399 is a fantastic price for triple A VR.

Just give me an Amazon.de preorder link ;_;

This won't be selling to the mainstream initially..that's how it works. Over time prices drop....not sure why people are surprised here.

see above.

Why would the price drop before the next iteration of PSVR for PS5? What incentive does Sony have to lower the price, when they already announced that manufacturing is gonna run into problems due to high demand?
