Well, the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth are finally taking their toll on the second weekend ticket sales for Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This morning, BvS woke up from a hangover to learn that they’re on their way to a -70% weekend drop of $50.7M. That fall off is one of the steepest for a superhero film, notching out the -69% posted by 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. All this despite the fact that Bruce and Clark have the Friday-Sunday period all to themselves, without any new wide threats from the other majors plus the added benefit of 30% K-12 schools off, and another 9% colleges on break, per ComScore. The second Friday till for BvS of $15.3M, down 81%, looks like a collapse because it’s compared to last Friday’s $81.55M which includes $27.7M previews. Even if you back those previews out ($53.85M), BvS’ Friday-to-Friday decline is still big at -72%.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
When I saw it on Thursday, the theater was almost empty. There were probably 20 people there.

Weird that my biggest takeaway from this is that only 30% of schools and 9% of colleges run their spring break starting on Easter weekend. Thought that was the widely accepted spring break placement.

Saw it on Tuesday, biggest theatre in town, had as many people in seats as when I saw Deadpool on Thursday at one of the smallest theaters. Very frontloaded.

Time to take the wrong lessons from Deadpool and release the R rated cut to theaters with a new marketing campaign.

Ooff.

Spoiler trailer.
Bad reviews and word of mouth.
The transparent cobbling of bvs and justice League start into one movie.

I have almost no interest in going to watch it. What a Fucking disaster. Instead of epic, the movie has become a joke to everyone.

It's so bad it might to damage to super hero movies in general.

I hope studios wisen up and stop spoiling movies in trailers and trying to ram franchises down our throats instead of making good movies first.

Good. DC needs to stop listening to Zack Snyder. Lucky for them marvel didn't release cap 3 at the same time as once rumored

I await the repercussions of the door-in-the-face technique WB decided upon instead of using Marvel's foot-in-the-door method which has proven so successful.

I don't think it's over for DC, the main properties are strong enough to get some sustained success, but the well hasn't really been poisoned like this for every other studio's entry into the genre.

(Still haven't seen it, trailers didn't really even justify a matinee for me).

I thought it would power through like Transformers.

I was pretty vocal about my distaste for the film on social media, and I was surprised to see at least half a dozen friends tell me that they were just going to flat out skip it/wait for Xmen & Civil War.

It will still make money in the end, but Christ on a bike does the next film need some coherent writing and editing.

Edit: Snyder's visuals are one of the film's few saving graces. The man knows how to shoot super hero action. The film is just a tonal mess and leaves way too much open for interpretation.

Do we really need a separate thread for this, when we have box office?

Feels over the top and mean spirited. Dat Marvel bias gloating.

At the very least they'll make money out of it, but if they ever wanna reach those Marvel numbers they gotta put someone nobody would expect to direct a solid action movie behind it.

Put like Ron Howard on it.

Batman wasn't the problem for me. All the Superman bits were god awful. It's like Zack Snyder actually hates the Superman character. Dark, brooding, boring, lacking in believable motivation, lacking in emotion except for anger and "brown chicken brown cow" in the bathtub.

I never want a movie to be turn out poorly, but I won't lie that I'm kind of happy people are rejecting something that seems to have been a rushed and ill conceived attempt to launch a massive film franchise at the expense of a good movie.

Batman and Superman are two of my favourite superheroes, and I'd still be down for seeing a Justice League film. But I hope there's some big changes between now and then.

It's kind of like a licensed video game though. It will make money no matter how shitty. Always

Superman and batman in the same movie with today's effects and love for superhero films? This should have shattered records. What a missed opportunity

I'm sure they are real upset and him making a movie that has made $587,822,793 worldwide so far.

And contrary to what GAF thinks it will do extremely well on home video as well.

500 million barely makes it out of the black. You seriously need to stop thinking like the average consumer and more like a shareholder to consider that number good for a movie of that scale.

I'm sure they are real upset at that $587,822,793 worldwide number.

they almost certainly are.

That -70% or so number doesn't just mean that Critics thought the movie was bad, it also means that audiences did too.

The movie was frontloaded with goodwill from those that thought it would be the next TDK. There doesn't appear to be any word of mouth or repeat business to put asses in seats from here on out, and this means that lack of goodwill is going to do terrible things to the next films they have in the pipeline.

Heads are absolutely rolling at Warner over this. there's no way to spin this into a positive.

I highly, highly, highly doubt WB expected to make even a billion off this film considering how much negativity that was surrounding it since the first trailer.

financial expectations would have been set LONG before the first trailer hit. There's no way Warner thought they'd make less than a billion when Cap 2, Guardians, and Thor 2 were in the 700M range.

Yes, they are. This is a disaster at the boxoffice. You have to be delusional or insane to try and spin otherwise. The drop this is having is happening worlwide. It is cratering. It was a one weekend film and then is quickly falling apart.

It has absolutely no chance at doing a billion, let alone 900 million. The film isnt a bomb but it is a disaster, full stop.

Oh and almost no movie does well at home video anymore. The home video market is a shell of its former self. Bluray sales are in the toilet across the board.

Baloney. It's a movie with Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman together on screen for the first time. This movie having worse legs than Barbara Gordon is not a win.
