I'm still dumb fucked by this praying deal. A country that's supposed to be free for all creeds and believes prays to Jesus Christ when swearing in a president.

Just to make sure I asked my mother if we did that here (she is a Christian) and her answer was "of course not".

Are this many prayers normal at an inauguration? Seems ignorant to pray Christian prayers in the USA where a large portion of your citizens don't even worship the same God.

Unfortunately ~80% of americans identify as christians. I wish we could keep religion out of politcs.

So much religion, exceptionally disgusting.

"Contrast is after all God's own plan to enhance the beauty of his own creation, or it would be if God were not a ludicrous fantasy designed to provide a career opportunity to the family idiot." -Sherlock Holmes

this type of Jesus/God shit is creepy as hell.. the most powerful nation should not be guided by nonsense.

reminds me of how Bush 2 attacked Iraq because Jesus whispered to him to do it.. to stop the biblical characters Gog and Magog (or sth) from arising in Iraq. fucking madness.

i really hope Trump is a closet atheist and doesn't actually imagine doing God's work.

TYT is doing a live commentary over the whole thing right now, with footage of everything as it happens. I know some of you have a real bug up your ass about TYT so try real hard to refrain from commenting on that if you can.

As a non-american I find it strange how intertwined the gov and Christianity still is. An atheist president that wouldn't say "God bless the USA" would make such a big scandal.

I'm Canadian, and I'm Catholic (not the most devout, but I'll hold onto my own beliefs), and yeah, it's really, really dumb how there isn't a true separation of Christianity and the government. It's insulting to other faiths, and those who opt not to have faith.

Just another way to exclude people ultimately, and it's disgusting... Much like this whole inauguration, but that's just to be expected.

y'all should be ashamed
You don't think they have a valid point?
It's as traditional as everything else is since the US was founded. Even if you don't believe in it, it is simply tradition, like singing the national anthem before baseball games. Thinking there's some sort of menacing entanglement of politics and religion is nuts. So no, they don't.

No-one ever watch an inauguration before? Swearing/praying has been the norm since the beginning, no?

Correct.

"Such being the impressions under which I have, in obedience to the public summons, repaired to the present station; it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official Act, my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the Universe, who presides in the Councils of Nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that his benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the People of the United States, a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes: and may enable every instrument employed in its administration to execute with success, the functions allotted to his charge. In tendering this homage to the Great Author of every public and private good I assure myself that it expresses your sentiments not less than my own; nor those of my fellow-citizens at large, less than either. No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency. And in the important revolution just accomplished in the system of their United Government, the tranquil deliberations and voluntary consent of so many distinct communities, from which the event has resulted, cannot be compared with the means by which most Governments have been established, without some return of pious gratitude along with an humble anticipation of the future blessings which the past seem to presage. These reflections, arising out of the present crisis, have forced themselves too strongly on my mind to be suppressed. You will join with me I trust in thinking, that there are none under the influence of which, the proceedings of a new and free Government can more auspiciously commence." (George Washington Inauguration)
