Emo Music |OT| Non-Conforming as Can Be

I like you.

You don't have to be sXe to love the music; I haven't been edge in 15 years and still enjoy the music and for the most part the scene.

It's like G.L.O.S.S., I love them and I'm not trans or gay. The anger and power in the lyrics is awesome, so is what they did for that scene, a voice for those who were marginalized.

Also, major bummer about Modern Baseball and Kevin Devine. Hoping Kevin gets out on a few headliners, guy is fantastic.

Obviously you don't have to be sXe to like the music. Just that wearing shirts that has "Straight Edge" on huge letters is the thing that feels kinda wrong when you aren't one.

^ Dead on.

Sorority Noise put on their Facebook that they're still planning on hitting the road in the spring. They were the 3rd band on the Modern Baseball / Kevin Devine tour.

They said details would be forthcoming in the next "few weeks."

EDIT:

Hard Girls announced they recorded a new album and it's coming out this year. Fucking yes.

Nah I love the irony of seeing a Boston sXe shirt when out at bars, reminds me we are all human

Is it me or does the new Sorority Noise video/song suck? I mean, I love emo music, but this is pure whining with no lyrical content at all. On Forgettable they really told some good stories. And what's with all the religious lines? Did they always have that?

And it sucks that MOBO went on hiatus. I missed them a few weeks ago cause it was to icey to drive...

The new Menzingers is brilliant. I hope it lasts because it immediately got me which is usually a bad sign. I can't get enough of Tellin Lies.

And then there's a new Stupid Stupid Henchmen record but I think this is definitely the wrong thread for this.

we are on a video game board.

what is the most emo video game?

My vote is NieR. It is so melancholy and is just sad and deals with LGBT issues too to a certain degree and just all out weirdness and emo is a weird genre filled with weird people.

?

I tried to discuss their lyrics but you apparently can't do that... exchange of opinions you know

Hmm?

My post wasn't directed at yours whatsoever lol Sorry about that.

I just have been thinking about this. I honestly don't have much to say about MOBO or Sorority Noise.

Sorry for the confusion haha

My post was not a response to yours. Just a fun question I wanted to pose to the thread

Nier is definitely up there. Does Raiden count? If yes then MGS4.

Those religious lines ("god given earth" and stuff) seemed more sarcastic to me than anything. Presenting the world as being perfectly in its place to underscore how abject he is that all he wants to do is destroy it.

It's heavy handed as fuck, I'll give you that. But it's a mid-album track and might have its place. The first song they put out from the new album was the shit, so I still have hopes for this.

The song actually reminded me a lot of "Medication" by Modest Mouse in its structure. But the MM song has a lot more restraint and knows when to drop the refrain and when to bring it back.

But speaking of Menzingers, it's the lyrics, ironically, that I find are holding me back from really getting into the album. It verges on the most basic Springsteen Jersey girl pining. And there's just this complete lack of depth. I get that there's power in those childhood moments, but that's all that they seem to want to say. Or worse, all that they have to say.

Braid was pretty emo. Especially with the twist.

That's what I ment though it had the opposite effect on me. I liked it instantly and the lyrics are very superficial leaving no room for interpretation. I'm afraid that it might get boring very fast. But atm I'm really enjoying it.

Nice I love yall's responses. All have an emo flair to them.

Also I wonder what an emo diss track would sound like.

Not emo related but enough interest maybe. This week I see Circa/MWY/Turnover and Deafheaven/ThisWillDestroyYou. I can't fucking wait

Shame on OP for not including them.

Edit: Did you also use i's instead of pipes (|) around "OT"? It looks like it says ioti in all caps. I'm just being picky now...

What album's that, I've listened to a bit and recognise the art?
I'm probably being ignorant

According to Rosenstock's IG account, the guys from Modern Baseball lent him their van for the upcoming Menzingers/Rosenstock/Rozwell Kid tour.

That's pretty cool.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Gave the new Menzingers album another proper listen to day, really liking this one, gonna have to go back through their other stuff tomorrow.

If you're a Circa Survive fan and a vinyl collector, you can snag On Letting Go on a limited edition triple LP for $50 at their shows. It's tour exclusive and includes demos and B Sides. Limited to 2500.

This may seem pricey, but the going rate for On Letting Go right now is like, $200-$300 depending on quality.

Went to see Deafheaven last night.

Fucking blew a ton of shows out the water for me.

This Will Destroy You was awesome as always.

All yall should check out Emma Ruth Rundle. A more "grown up" Julien Baker if that makes sense.

Finally got into Mom Jeans, that's a cool record.

Saw Tiny Moving Parts (with Wonder Years) the other day in Paris and my god, their guitarist looks like the happiest person in the world on stage. But then he is singing depressing as hell stuff. I loved it so much. There were like 20 or something people for them there but it was awesome.

That Julien Baker seems cool. Need to check out her album.

Found this one band and didn't see any mentions about it here. It is IEatHeartAttacks which is at the very least screamo influenced (or atleast last.fm page has a real screamo tag lmao). Real good stuff and their album just came out last month.

Also not emo related but so excited about it. Found a Disfear - Live by the Storm LP (blue splatter) for 20€ in good condition (store had it at EX- grading). Had to grab it immediately because that is super expensive everywhere now.

Looks like I gotta wait till April for my Mom Jeans to ship, feels like ages ago I ordered that :(

Were PUP not on that leg of the tour? I went to that show in the UK a few weeks ago but it was a ways away from where I live so I had to leave before TWY to get my train back home that night.

Going through my emo 'backlog' and have to say that Joyce Manor is so good. Have been listening to S/T and Cody and both are really good albums.

Unfortunetly PUP was not on that leg of the tour. They went to Paris like two weeks prior by themselves but since I'm not French I couldn't catch it. My French friend went and said it was unreal.

Wonder Years was good even if the setlist seemed short and Soupy was sick. But he gave it his best and you could tell. We were like 80 people so that was cool.

I still listen to Versace Summer almost daily.

Same. That little album slays.

I'm going to see Willie Nelson with Dwight Yoakam tomorrow. Are they emo?

The night after that I'm seeing the You Blew It / All Get Out / Free Throw show. Assuming I don't get a case of the fuck-its day of.

I'm really digging that Free Throw album. They are a tad derivative. You can see their influences on their sleeves. But they have these explosive moments using the right lyrics to get you to want to shout along.

Rosenstock is always an amazing show. Dude has such an incredible energy. Had a blast last night even if he didn't play I'm serious, I'm sorry

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

I fucking love her. Marked for Death was one of my favorite records from last year. Looking forward to seeing her again next week, especially with a full band.

Yeah she was really good.

Kinda funny how the show goes, from her which is chill to This Will Destroy you with their Blackgaze post rock ness then to Deafheaven who are heavier live then on album

But holy shit was it one of my fav shows of all time. top 3. The crowd for Deafheaven helped for sure. It was pretty chill until them and then shit got crazy

And Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends

Along with a bunch of other non emo vinyls. My collection is growing and it's so fun.
