It's a pretty crazy year when Nier Automata (which I liked, and can see why it would be GOTY for many) is the least favorite game that I've played (I've played 5 2017 games). I'm bad at ranking games individually but Persona 5 (which I put way too much time into in two weeks, but wanted to finish before end of term projects/exams), Zelda, and Yakuza 0 are the three in my "top tier".

Edit: Just realized I'm still an episode behind on Tokyo Ghoul. Hopefully episode 3 delivers more hilarity.

I dunno. The new DLC for Nier Automata pretty much solidifies it as GOTY for me. >.>
I just love it for the fact you can choose an option that says "Immersion Schmimmersion!" in order to proceed to boss fights against THE CEOS OF PLATINUM & SQUARE-ENIX.

God, I hope we get a remake/remaster of Nier that fixes some of the clunkiness & stuff. Wouldn't mind going back to that, but it's gonna feel less fun after Automata. Also hope the original Drakengard hits PSN someday as well or that HD Collection Taro Yoko said he might do if S-E helps with the funding.

I am halfway into Persona 5 and this year has been way too stuffed with quality games. I think I will have cleared out my backlog by the time Bloodstained comes out....probably....I hope...

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Horizon is still the best game I've played all year but I haven't played most of them. I did love Gravity Rush 2 despite the flaws. I still need to get into Yakuza 0, Nioh and Persona 5

I'm a bit bummed that the cool Gravity Rush 2 costumes are coming out long after I've 100%'d the game. The 2B costume looks great, but I'll never wear it because I have nothing to go back.

....also kind of glad the Raven DLC was free because it wasn't that great, especially with the fact you feel so weak due to having none of your upgrades you worked so hard to buy for Kat.

Debating Akiba's Beat since it comes out May 19th, but I'll probably still be on P5 (probably starting my NG+/trophy clean-up playthrough) & I've heard very little import impressions on it). Otherwise, just Crash N-Sane & FE Echoes (maybe FF12 HD) for the summer since it seems Sonic Mania, at least according to Amazon, got delayed to Sept....the same month as Danganronpa V3.

I'm debating going back to get the Platinum for GR2 but it seems like I have some of the most tedious trophies that I've never started on left. I'm almost there and may just force myself since I liked the rest of the game so much and I try to Platinum my favorite games.

Honestly i don't see a universe where Breath of the wild ever get surpassed for me except by another open world zelda game, but there have been some pretty great ones out this year so far

Fun thing about JoJo, since it's over for the time being. The original opening to Phantom Blood actually gave away who all the JoJo Successors would be through part 6 in literally the first 3 seconds.

Upgrading your skills is much more tedious since they increased the gem cost by a ton (I was able to upgrade everything in the remaster before finishing the game since I could do the DLC stuff). Didn't help the best way to earn them was to grind the first 10 minutes of a mission over & over.

Also looks like I'm missing Toonami the weekend of May 6th. Oh well, least I ain't missing Jojo for the time being.

It also, you know, spoils 90% of the plot of Jim Jam Part 1! What a productive opening!

Huh I wonder if I was playing before that gem increase happened. I have a good amount of gems, I should be damn close to the trophy for 60,000 and most of my skills are close to being fully upgraded.

That's what I like about all the JoJo openings. Once you know the context of the story you start to realize just how much the openings foreshadow.

The second one does a good job of it, I think. Little hints here and there.

The first one is a progression, scene by scene, that shows everything major up until the climax. That's a bit much, but considering how it is literally 30 years old I don't think they give two shits about spoilers!

The best part about the openings
is when they change to match the events in the show.
I'm curious if Toonami will play those full openings as they're pretty cool.

As someone who enjoys the last two games you mentioned I still put Horizon as my GOTY

Regarding games my favorites have been Horizon and Persona 5 so far. Nioh had potential but then too much Team Ninja cheap bullshit started getting in the way of my enjoyment. I like Gravity Rush but I really have to be in the mood for impending motion sickness so I haven't played it for a bit.

Old ass quoting time part 1 as I watch old stuff
So.. what the hell is a jutsu?! I thought they were techniques... not bombs?

It's a technique that causes a tremendously large explosion. I don't know why that part is hard to understand.

I don't know why it would lose its power when removed though.

I feel like ever since the block was initially reduced from 6 hours, people have been freakishly paranoid about the ratings.

The actual demographic stuff is still pretty solid, especially since it's got to compete now with the NBA playoffs.

Will we even remember Sand Whale by the end of the year?
Probably not, let alone the end of the month. It'll be one of those things we go ".......oh yeah, that existed....it sure was short, but boring" & then go on with our lives. There's little to remember aside from "remember how much footage it would reuse for those first three episodes?"

Actually, on the Toonami Showdown, there was a good point made it might've helped if this was cut down by an episode, though I still wonder if it might've worked as a short 10 minute video that removed the recycled opening & ending stuff.

But basically, there's not much emotion summoned when remembering this compared to Blue Exorcist, where I eventually remember "hahaha, oh yeah, it had those funny slice of life moments & the bonkers ending", or with Dimension W making me go "...OH GOD, it had that stupid Easter Island part"

It's a "nothing" show that happened to be super short which makes it stand out less compared to Unicorn which is much longer & makes a bigger impact at just how boring it is.

People said nope to Sand Whale and nope to Unicorn it would seem. Then again, it doesn't look like the back half's doing any better with One Piece gone.

We'll probably see an increase when Unicorn leaves. And (as much as it pains me to say it) probably when JoJo gets replaced by them Titans too..

Man... you know, I kind of wish those Titans had shown up sooner. Either that or they didn't take a chance on the Unicorn. But that's probably just me being bitter about One Piece being gone still and looking for something to blame. Nothing would have changed (probably).

Putting AoT S2 in the middle of the block will probably help the back half a bit.

I think what "weakens" the block too is it's mostly composed of shows you can stream through Netflix, Hulu, or Crunchyroll. All of them have more or less been out for a couple of years as well.

Compare that to stuff from a couple of years ago like SAO, Kill la Kill, AGK, Parasyte which all debuted closer to their original air dates while they were still "fresh."

Wait I thought everybody on here hated Kill La Kill or is the KLK hate just overblown on GAF?

This thread liked it well enough

Does ToonamiGAF not like it? I know regular GAF hates on KLK because of the whole "stripping clothes" premise. It's actually legit one of my favorite anime.

People who don't watch anime didn't like it for that

Anime gaf went super snob on it since people kept saying it would "save anime based trigger".

I think it also doesn't help that later in the night is when they tend to slot their slower and more wordy shows as well, which is hard to deal with if you've been up since 6 in the morning.

I have seen it twice and enjoyed it more the second the second time. I actually consider it a fun show.

Even anime hipster Digibro likes KLK. What's GAF's problem lol.

Attack on Titan Season 2 isn't really a good fit for this thought process since not only is it a dub premiere but it is only going to be 4 episodes behind the Japanese broadcast, the quickest turnaround since Space Dandy.

General reaction on here for KLK to my understanding was that the first half was good to great, but then the 2nd half is when it starts to fall apart (after the school trip, for me), but overall was still a fun show to group watch.
