This sounds like a joke, but it's true. You're more likely to win if you stay around 2nd-3rd. The only way you're winning if you get hit by a blue shell is if you have a MASSIVE lead, and that doesn't really happen online.

Actually this is a good hint. I will try cranking the difficulty or even sandbagging a bit.

You can use bananas to shield yourself from shells.

I know, I have played MK8 on Wii U. I was trying to say that in some matches, out of 10 items you get as the first racer, 8 are coins, 1 is a banana and another is a shell. Good luck defending yourself against the three red shells behind you.

I was hoping Nintendo would've balanced the items a bit but as of now, I got the horn only one time and didn't need it against the blue shell. Most of the time, the blue shell gets me at least once every match, sometimes twice, and there is no way defending yourself against it with coins, bananas and green shells.

Damn the auto accelerate is nice as hell.

Turn that shit on cause I was sick of pressing the button.

Holy shit so comfortable.

Also these features allow my sister who always has problems falling off the track to race and compete and have a chance. Fucking amazing game.

I wish they would have kept the old battle mode tracks in addition to the new ones though.

Have you been using the coins before touching another item box? I think it's impossible to have both slots taken up by coins.

I've been getting a lot of super horns while in 1st place whenever I get the double item box. That rarely happened in the Wii U version.

I've lost count how many times I've grabbed the dual box in 1st and gotten 2 coins, even when I've already got 10. It suuuucks.

I think so, now that you mention it, I didn't really pay attention as I try to get to 10 coins asap. But I'm sure you get two coins.

Is it just me or does the squid always know where you are looking on the screen to place the ink, or does it predict where you will look based on the track conditions and obstacles? I've tested by immediately moving my eyes to various places on screen when it appears and it covers with ink in that location.

Having spend more time with 200cc, I don't think it's the ideal way to play Mario Kart. I thought a faster MK would be amazing but some tracks are really not suitable for it no matter how much you slow down on turns. You can barely drift properly.

The ink isn't actually rendered on the screen, the game summons Cthulhu to spread the ink on the inside of your cornea.

Yes it does.

It doesn't happen in SP above 50. There is of course heavy item distribution weighting online but there is no rubber banding for the cars.
It does happen in sp as well. That's how i win every race despite getting hit a lot, although i gotta say i think it happens less than in previous games (including 8), and you have more chances to defend yourself thanks to the double items system (it's simply not true that you only get coins). Not sure about 200cc, as I thought it was terrible back on wii u so I haven't tried it yet.

I was also surprised to see that the CPU gets the same treatment when they're in first place. I fucked up a turn and fell out in the first track of star cup, Toad surpassed me and he got hit by a lighting, fell down and when he came back up he found a blue shell ready to say hi. Something similar happened in the dragon circuit to waluigi. I thought it was something reserved to the player to prevent him from winning so i was glad to see that the CPU could get fucked in the same way.

Yes, it's magic.
Of course not, how would it be tracking where you are looking at?

Yeah, I personally wasn't a fan back on WiiU. I tried my hardest to try and get into it and think real technical, but it certainly is not ideal Mario Kart.

Still, I personally would rather have it than not, I kind of treat it as a wild party mode more than anything now.

Definitely not the ideal way, but once you nail down drift braking it's pretty easy to beat the bots (who are constantly fucking up themselves)

Like I said before, 200cc was stapled onto a game designed around 150cc. Narrow turns and hard corners a major pain to get around, especially since the walls have a 'you're here forever' mentality when you touch them.

Baby Park is a nightmare on 200cc. Everyone is constantly hitting walls.

I believe you. I can also place 1st second or third in sp races. Randomly. It all depends on whether the blue shell hits me right before the finish or early enough that I have time to catch up.

You can easily get far enough ahead of the CPU in single player to the point that blue shells don't matter. I honestly find lightning far more of an issue since it also destroys both of your items.

Can you have two accounts playing on the same console for MK8? Wondering the same for Puyo Puyo. It would be nice if player two could collect rewards.

Government's out to get you.

Well i feel stupid, was playing and swor my pro controller had stick drift due to my cart always listing to the right, turns out i had accidentally turned on gyro..spent a half hour trying to find out if i had a faulty controller

Anyone else having issues with the Wireless play? We had three Switches (one docked, one handheld and one tabletop) and were within a few feet of one another, yet we kept getting disconnected. :(

We opted using the Online Friends mode where the connection via Wi-Fi was more stable.
Yep. The two Switches we were using last night wouldn't connect. We opted for online play as well.

Figures I finally win a race and I get a connection error right after so no credit.

Is it just me or does this game have a fuckton of connection errors?

Which stats do you prefer for races? I like to balance speed and acceleration, but no matter I still barely can break the top 50%, with a couple of exceptions, even when it's mostly a smooth ride without bumping into things.

Anyone worried about his switch after playing long hours docked mode ? The fan kicks in to a high fever while in docked mode I fear my console will either fly it melt and explode .

I said this yesterday. Definitely the hardest working Switch game. But while it's connected to the electricity it may as well use the fans at full power.

I don't even look at stats. I just use whatever looks cool.

I got my Switch in the middle of March...and a month and a half later I've still only ever used it as a handheld

shrugs

So the different Kart parts have stats / effect the way you drive, but do the characters?

different characters have different weight...how exactly that effects things I'm not quite sure but it's another thing to have to consider at times

I personally prefer having handling/grip evened out at 4-bars or so, helps you take turns a lot more tightly and I believe build your drift boost much faster. Mario Kart tends not to have a ton of straight lines to really bolster a speed+acceleration advantage, but perhaps worth noting that I also prioritize acceleration over top speed if I can, so in the case that I maybe edge just off the course in corners or take a foul angle off a jump, I can get back up to my top speed ASAP.

I roll Peach with a bike, take corners right on the apex as often as possible and try to boost out of them.

EDIT: generally speaking, my stats are kinda middled out across the board, but with slight emphasis toward handling and traction.

Well, that definitely plays into it... but then I end up using the standard kart most of the time, hah. Most of the karts I've unlocked are just fugly. The Mercedes ones, what were they even thinking? ($$$ I guess).
