That speech came off as really pretentious and elitist, as if he's somehow above everyone else. I assume he hasn't yet realized that there's a place for all kinds of music in this world, and big, bombastic performances just so happen to be a big part of modern Eurovision. Does he seriously think he's the last bastion of "music that means something"?

Acting as if his sleeping dart of a pretentious shitty song and his stupid "performance" is high art or something.

No surprise he finally exposed himself as the douche he was hinting at being. Have fun being forgotten in a month and bye.

Damn, I get it that some people find the song boring or not don't enjoy the style, but this is on another level of salt.

Portugal has finally won, after 80 years.

So Ukraine won 2016 singing partialy in Tartar and now Portugal fully in portuguese, english is not a must have to win anymore.

I hope Greece gets the message. Demy is great, her song was trash.

I'm still offended about Germany not being last and Austria getting more than 0 points.
How are you offended by germany not being the last? Have you forgotten about spain? Also, Austria deserved those 0 points, they didn't derserve that many jury votes.

Good music deserves to be everywhere, especially on stages where artists get exposure.

I like his song well enough, but it's no better, 'deeper', 'more real' than any other Eurovision winner. It's not any more 'real' than Romania's yodeling, for that matter. Dude sang a simple song with plenty of gimmicky quirk himself. That rockist boogey man shit - you're not very smart when you try to pull that after winning the Eurovision Song Contest. It's more like the level I expect from youtube commenters talking about when "music was real" on an upload of a 90s one hit wonder.

I mean... Spain should be disqualified for life for that song. But I still wanted the hattrick!

I liked Portugal's song but that speech just makes no sense to do at EUROVISION.

You know where you're at right? It's all about the cheese and "fireworks".

Meh. To me Eurovision is stuff like Verka, I like entries such as Portugal's as well, but I don't like snubbing off of "firework songs" and that Eurovision must be some holy grail of music. It's a fun song contest and all music styles are viable, so no need for such a comment by him.

Portugal was good. Not my personal favorite and I don't like that it will lead to even more ballads than we saw this year, but it likely goes down as a classic eurovision winner just based on how different, artistic and musically timeless it is. Compared to for example Bulgaria/Sweden it's so much more memorable.
And that winning performance was amazing, not sure why they didn't make it a duet in the first place.

So, how you liked the hosts? Serviceable?
They were painful.

As for the UK result: yeah, I kind of expected this and I don't think it's got anything to do with Brexit. Lucie Jones is a good singer but the song was pretty mediocre, and mediocre is perhaps the worst type of song to send; if everyone thinks it's the 11th best song, it's getting no points.

Also, despite the UK score being propped up by them, I'd like to see the juries disappear. While it might not have had any effect on the overall outcome, they are not serving their purpose of eliminating political voting, and the crowd booing predictable scores is not a good look.

I love his song but I cringed hard.

I feel like people voted for him in a sort of a "high art (but don't even understand this shit)" way. He managed to perfectly aim at that vote.

Well done I say.

I mean, have you read some of the salt in this thread? :p It's like we stole someone's baby or something haha
No one gets actually salty over Eurovision. Everyone knows it's a joke competition but what can I say, GAF didn't enjoy the winner's performance. I'd have to agree with them, and like many ESC winners no one will remember it a year from now.

We've had 100 pages of catty remarks for humor why take Nev's comment serious. He's not wrong in his hate of the song, jazz needs to be contained quickly and safely is the only way to eradicate it.

Arguably, since it's so damn different from most of everything else, it'll probably be remembered a lot more than many of the recent winners.

I don't like the song also, but to pretend people are not salty about it winning is silly :p read the thread man, the salt is real (and funny).

The speech was not the best one, but you have to remember he is singing for a much older version of eurovision, the one where people sang with a live orchestra and TV's were black and white.

seriously thinking about taking a trip to Portugal next year. Should be perfectly affordable. And it's a much more attractive destination than some eastern European country (no offense, Belarus,Ukraine,BalticStates,Romania...)

It's cheap if you go to the actual local spots (in terms of stores, restaurants, cafes, etc). There are plenty of tourist traps, like anywhere else :p

The German public should not be allowed to vote for their participant.

Raab should produce a song and that's it. Apparently that's the only way we still have a shot.
