Actually, Rocket League on PS4 does support cross-platform play, with PC

Meanwhile, Star Trek: Bridge Crew PSVR does support cross-platform play, with Vive and Oculus.

So clearly they are handling this on a case-by-case basis.

PS4 and PC

But Rocket League news today was that it will now be crossplay between Switch, PC, and XB1. PS4 will not communicate with XB1 or Switch.

We also got news that Wargroove, that Advance Wars like indie game will also have crossplay functionality with Switch, PC and XB1 but no PS4.

lol

These are the same 2 companies that say, "congrats!" whenever they each launch a console. What kind of funky industry we got into yall.

There are a ton of people at these companies. It's impossible for everyone to talk to each other and coordinate everything that every single person says. Yes, it's their responsibility to do the best they can at delivering messages, but we as fans don't have to play dumb - we can read into the message without getting upset when PR doesn't treat everyone just so.

They've allowed cross play with PC which voids any excuse I've seen Sony give. The solution I see is having cross play be not auto on and an option you have to turn on and accept before using.

Like in minecraft it be default only play with other PSN players, but you could go into network settings and turn on cross play and it would pop up with a disclaimer and you would have to accept and then people wouldn't notice a difference at all.

Like with Rocket League they could flip the switch and no one at Sony would know cause it would just seem like there were more PC players.

It's never going to happen guys.

Let it go.
I wasn't on GAF back then, but what made Sony decide to get rid of Ps3's boomerang controllers?

what made Sony decide to put rumble back in Sixaxis?

what made sucker punch redesign cole for Infamous 2?

what made bioware come out with an extended cut to Me3?

what made mS do the xbox 180?

what made Sony decide to put Spiderman in the MCU?

what made ND come out and address the Nadine Ross controversy in Uc4?

How is this different from when Microsoft wouldnt allow Xbox 360 players play Portal 2 with the PC and PS3 players lol? It wasnt Valve's decision not to allow Xbox players, it was Microsoft.

Probably was excited when nintendo got on-board thinking sony would as well. Would actually be pretty cool and a step toward the future of gaming.

Fuck that.

Keep making noise until they listen.

Only way.

What will letting go do? Nothing. If your tired of people complaining about it, feel free to avoid those threads.

But thanks Good guy Phil, for looking out for those kids.

None of those platforms you named are consoles. I chose my wording carefully.

Instead of choosing words carefully, why not choose clarity? There are already many in this thread jumping to the conclusion that PS4 does not support cross-platform play, which you know is not true.

It's not different. Microsoft was the asshole then, Sony is the asshole now.

That was a good response from Phil.

Now that I think about it, Sony's excuse is kind of insulting. Both professionally and personally in some way.

Almost nobody is confused by this. We all know Sony has crossplay with PC on games like Rocket League and Street Fighter V... these have been too high profile to miss.

The discussion is crossplay with other consoles, which was something Sony was previously assumed to also be cool with, right up until the point where MS called their bluff.

asm 3&4 were still planned and in production until at least July of that year. i'm sure the fan's demand played some sort of catalytic role in the deal being made.

I was just playing around. Though I'd imagine Marvel themselves had more to do with Spiderman in the MCU than fans. He's probably their most important character, so they probably just grabbed their ankles to make it happen. If some other company had the movie rights to Batman right now, DC/WB would probably be willing to do a lot to get the character back into their movie universe.

in the broadest application of cross platform play, sony supports it the least, since they only support it with PC, while mS and Nintendo support it with one another along with PC and other platforms like Apple on mobiles

Exploiting dumbass statements doesn't serve much good in my opinion. It only serves to muddy the waters.

What Phil ideally, should've done, was call out Sony for liars and said something like "I know you're lying and you're just afraid of losing a competitive business advantage of selling your consoles when people aren't forced to pick PS4 to play with their PS4-owning friends."

Of course, that would burn a million bridges.

Times have changed, but bitterness hasn't.

And thanks for finding that quote. Sony was pro crossplatform and now they're not. Microsoft want pro crossplatform and now they are.

Let's not forget where this started.
This is true.

Both cases it had to be a business decision.

I will say this, MS is doing some of the lil things right right now.

Both company men need to just be quiet about some things tho. It makes them and their company look bad.

what bridge is there to burn when sony isn't accepting the Minecraft update anyway

I know what you tried but you can play with other players on PS4.

I bet with even more than Xbone and Switch combined.

X1 and Switch will be able to play with PC and mobile so do you still think PS4 will have the larger player base for Minecraft?

Posting Microsoft quotes from the Don Mattrick era seems kind of pointless since he was ousted in part because of his disregard of consumers that lead to that brutal XB1 reveal.

Ultimately PS4 Minecraft not having feature parity with other versions seems like it will be a much bigger deal than cross-platform play. Once the update starts getting more heavily advertised I'll be interested to see if there is any backlash from Minecraft community on PS4. Maybe there won't be any, I don't know how closely they pay attention to updates.

Yeah. People are forgetting this is X1, NiN, PC, and Mobile. Which, even without Sony, is pretty fucking amazing.

while Spiderman is Marvel's biggest character, the MCU has proven that it definitely doesn't need him to succeed. civil war would've been a billion dollar movie without him. This helped Sony probably much more than it did Disney. Homecoming has the potential to be the highest grossing Spiderman movie yet.
Marvel gets to borrow Spiderman for MCU, Sony gets exclusive rights to Spiderman in video games.
Sony also gets to use other MCU characters

It was a good answer that was respectful yet forceful. On a side note, as usual the whole interview was fantastic and Jeff did a great job walking through numerous interesting topics.

Seriously. Having Apple, Google, Nintendo and Microsoft all on board to unify a platform is huge. It's going to be awesome that nearly everyone can play Minecraft together no matter what you're playing on. I can go on a trip and play on my Switch with my friend playing on his phone and my grandma on her laptop and we can all be in the same world together.

Crossplay should be the future. It should be the next revolution in online gaming.

It really was. I also think this kind of interview shows why a lot of people like Phil Spencer. A more casual environment where he can shed some of the coached speaking and let more passion flow. Like the part where he says "people" say he talks about PlayStation too much, clearly he wants to talk about the industry as a whole and others want him to not give "free publicity" so to speak.

Times have changed...Jim Ryan went to the same PR school most likely.

There is a huge difference between "we want to ensure a top-notch experience for our players" and "we can't trust them around kids"

Which would you rather somebody say about joining a game with you?

Even if you don't care about Minecraft or Rocket League having crossplay, there are plenty of smaller multiplayer games that don't have millions of sales that could benefit from having this. Shutting the door on it because your favorite console manufacturer is winning is incredibly shortsighted.

lol, Phil must be loving this. After years of being kicked around by Sony, MS has forced them with no good option here.

Accepting cross play benefits Sony the least as they are the market leader, and creates a dangerous precedent, as the more games have cross play, the less reason there is to get a PS4 because you want to play with all your friends who already have PS4s. Refusing paints Sony as the bad guy. There's absolutely no winning move for them here.

Nobody considers a console purchase based on a different console's online community.

The winning move for Sony is for them to say yes so that their Minecraft community gets the most up to date version of the game. Saying no to cross play is barring them from that leaving them with the weakest version
